2 VM20-K and VM30-K indoor motor-operated drives The drives are intended for to be used as remote control mechanisms of switching devices, in particular MV disconnectors and switch disconnectors. The VM20 and VM30 motor operated drives are used to control the operation of MV indoor switching devices from the front side of the switching cell. The VM20/VM30 drives are mounted on left-hand/right-hand side of the switchboard cabinet or the cell, respectively, by placing them into a holder which is a part of the product delivery. The drives are easily to be assembled and adjusted; featuring a compact design and placing only limited demands on installation space. They may be installed later on to the existing switching devices. They feature adequate output torque and high switching speed, and are delivered in various combinations of power supply and control voltages. Each version may be manually controlled by a lever. The basic structural parts of the drive are, as follows: 1 the VM motor 2 adjustable cams with switches for fixing the limit positions 3 indicator of the drive switching state 4 emergency manual control mechanism 5 control panel (optional) 6 control electronics and auxiliary switch (optional) 7 connecting terminal block 8 drive holder frame (different for VM20 and VM30) The VM20-K and VM30-K motor-operated drive assemblies consist of the VM20 or VM30 drive mechanism (with joint), a bevel gear on the shaft of the switching device, and a connecting rod. The joint makes it possible to tilt the connecting rod to an angle of up to 45 from the vertical. Tilting from the horizontal can be eliminated by the extension piece of the switch shaft. DK indoor manual drive units These are being used, in particular, for switching devices mounted on the rear side of the cabinet or the switching cell. The DK drive is attached to the front side of the cabinet or the cell. The DK lever-operated drive mechanism makes it possible to tilt the drive to up to 45. Tilting from the horizontal can be eliminated by the extension piece of the switch shaft. Thanks to its design the DK drive does require hardly any adjustments to be carried through. The drive is attached to the front side using two M10 screws with nuts (being a part of the consignment). The assembly consists of the DK drive (with joint), a bevel gear (to be fixed with pins to the shaft of the switching device), and connecting rod. The connecting rods are made available in various lengths. Observe the proper positional orientation of the bevel gear. The latter determines the sense of rotation of the drive during its travel into the OFF (VYP) or ON (ZAP) positions! Applies for: disconnectors with earthing switch in the bottom position, the EK, EA, SEA switch disconnectors, the EK and EA earthing switch in the bottom position Applies for: the SEA earthing switch mounted in upper position 2.A Installation of the VM20/30-K motor-operated drive Fix the motor drive holder onto the switching cell (by drilling holes into the cell structure, cutting threads into the holes and fixing the holder with screws). The centre of the drive output shaft has to be aligned with the pinion of the bevel gear (with connecting rod running in parallel with the side wall of the cell), or the shaft extension can be used. If it is necessary to weld the drive holder to the cell, then first dismantle the holder from the drive (4 screws from the rear, 2 screws on the drive upper side see Fig. on the right). Pull the joint member on the output shaft of the VM20/30-K drive. 2.B Mounting the control part of the DK drive Drill a hole into the cell front face as shown in picture on the left. The centre of the drive output shaft has to be aligned with the pinion of the bevel gear. Use the shaft extension in case of need. Attach the control part of the drive using two M10 screws with nuts, which are part of the consignment. Tighten slightly. 3. Linking up the drive assemblies Measure the necessary length of coupling rod, starting from the hole axis for fixing the pinion of bevel gear, up until the hole axis for placing a pin into the joint member of the VM20/30-K or DK drive see figure. The pinion and the joint are situated each against the other. The total length of the connecting rod is then equal to the sum of measured length (x) plus 40 mm, i.e. l = x Cut short the rod from the cell front side (the part with insulation ferrule is now next to the bevel gear). Dismantle the joint member from the VM20/30-K drive (or from the control part of the DK drive). Insert connecting rod into the pinion of the bevel gear and secure with screw. Pull the joint member onto the connecting rod (or the control part of the DK drive) and mark the location of hole centre for the second screw (to be marked from both sides of the control part of the shaft). Drill a hole in the connecting rod for placing the screw. Assembly the whole power drive unit, by linking the rod with the bevel gear and the control part of the drive using the supplied screws. Link the joint member with the VM20/30-K drive and retighten the control part of the DK drive to the switching cell front. 4. Functional test Check the proper operation of the drive mechanism with the installed switching device using either the manual control lever of the DK drive, or the emergency control lever of the VM20/30-K drive. Glue on stickers showing the end ON and OFF positions on the switching state indicator of VM20/30-K and pull on the switching state indicator on the control part of the DK drive. 5. The VM20/30-K drives: setting the end switch cams, testing the drive operation with motor Adjust the positions of end switch cams of the motor-operated drive (see separate section below). Connect the VM20/30-K motor drive as per the corresponding wiring diagram. Set intermediate switching position on the motor drive using emergency control lever, in order to have enough time to switch the drive off by circuit-breaker in case the drive mechanism will be running in reverse. Verify the electrical operation of the drive using pushbuttons. After finally checking the electrical connections screw on the protective cover on the drive. 3

The end switches are controlled by cams situated on the shaft of the motor-operated drive. ON position SQ2 switch The ON end switching position is reported by a cam situated the second one when looking from the front side towards the motor, and the SQ2 end switch. Set the ON switching position of the switching device by turning clockwise the emergency control lever, until stop, while observing the sense of rotation of the cams. Loosen the cam for setting the ON position and turn it in opposite to the original movement until the end switch for the ON position (SQ2) becomes switched off. Now secure the position of the cam by the M6 set screw. Fix the collar of auxiliary switch, mounted in the inside of the drive, in ON position. OFF position SQ1 switch Then turn the emergency control lever into OFF position, also up until the stop. Similarly to the ON position described above adjust the position of the first cam and that of the SQ1 switch for the OFF position. Should it happen that the switching device will not reach its end switching positions during motor-driven operation, or should mechanical tensions in the end positions become apparent, then extend or shorten the run of the drive by turning round the cams softly. The adjustment of the drive run (of the cams) is always to be done by slackened clamping ring of the auxiliary switch rod! 4

Protection of the VM20 and VM30 indoor motor-operated drives The drive motors must be protected with circuit breakers featuring the M characteristics.

For voltages of 230 V AC and 400 V AC the use of three-phase AC motor starters is recommended, such as: Type GZ1 M GV2-M PKZM0 140M-C2E SM1-B SM1E MIS Manufacturer Schneider Electric Telemecanique Moeller Allen-Bradley Lovato OEZ Letohrad SEZ Krompachy However, powering voltages of 24 V DC, 48 V DC, 60 V DC, 110V DC and 220V DC, require the use of circuit breakers with appropriate DC short-circuit disconnecting capability. The following types of circuit breakers have proven to be suitable: Type 140-MN S 282 UC-K RI 5 J2 M Manufacturer Allen-Bradley ABB SEZ Krompachy Each circuit breaker must be completed with an auxiliary contact to disconnect the control circuitry in case of its operation. When connecting the circuit breaker into the circuit the manufacturer recommendations need to be observe, in particular concerning the specified polarity. 6 Operation The motor-powered drive unit does not necessitate any expertise and depends on the type of switching device and drive mechanism used. The DK drives are controlled manually using a lever with hexagon. The VM20-K and VM30-K drives are locally controlled by electrical push buttons, or from a control room, with the possibility of manual emergency control using a lever. The ON switching position is reached by turning the emergency control lever clockwise, and vice versa. The basic arrangement and the sense of rotation of the VM20-K and VM30-K drives is illustrated on the right. Maintenance The VM20 and VM30 motor-operated drives are maintenance free. Their movable mechanical parts are greased with stable lubricants which guarantee reliable operation of the mechanical components during their whole service life. During the condition monitoring of the drive it is recommended to carry out a few test switching operations. The DK drives are maintenance free. 6
