1 EASYSTREET Air Commander Late Model Ford F MN-544 (02506) ECR 5206 Please read these instructions completely before proceeding with installation The oil level in the compressor must be checked BEFORE running the engine or compressor. Failure to do so will result in a faulty compressor and a void warranty. Front View Side View Important Warranty Information 1. If the compressor or engine is run without having oil in the compressor, the warranty is void. 2. If the belt is not properly installed, or if the belt does not have proper tension, the warranty is void. 3. Failure to use included installation components properly voids the warranty. 4. Failure to check proper oil level and conditions voids the warranty. 5. This compressor must be used in an air compressor application only, not an air conditioning application. No freon is required. 2 IMPORTANT: Always keep safety in mind when working on your vehicle. I. Assembling the Compressor Clamp 1. Attach the clutch to the compressor using the four bolts that come in the box with the clutch (Figure 1). Tighten the bolts securely. NOTE: Make sure that the wire is at the top of the compressor. 2. Place the compressor drive pulley over the clutch and align the keyway. Attach the pulley using the provided hardware. Tighten securely to the shaft. 3. Route the wire through the hose clip (K). Attach the small clip using a bolt (J) and a flat washer (L). Check Oil Figure 1 II. Installing the Pulley 1. Disconnect the red positive alternator cable and the plug connector from the rear of the alternator. 2. Loosen the serpentine belt and remove it from the alternator pulley. Retain for re-installation. 3. Remove all three alternator bolts and retain for later use. 4. Remove the alternator from the vehicle. 5. Remove O.E.M. alternator-drive pulley and replace with alternator/compressor combo-drive pulley (B). NOTE: Ensure that the alternator shaft nut is tight. An impact gun is useful. 6. Re-install the alternator and insert the O.E.M. double-end threaded stud and the supplied double-end threaded stud (N). 7. Do not re-install the serpentine belt at this time. 8. Do not re-install the alternator cable at this time. Figure 2 Figure 3 Figure 4 2
3 III. Installing the Compressor and Bracket 1. Remove the radiator hose and reverse the ends so that the end previously mounted on the engine is not attached to the radiator. NOTE: This will provide clearance for the engine driven compressor (Figure 6). 2. Attach the compressor assembly to the bracket (A) using bolts (G), flat washers (F), and lock washers (H) to the four mounting threads on the under-side of the compressor. Leave loose at this time to allow for pulley alignment. 3. Place the bracket and the compressor assembly over the alternator by placing it on the double-ended studs. Figure 4 4. Fasten using a flat washer (T) and a nylock nut (Q) on both ends of the stud and tighten. 5. Place a bolt (O) and a flat washer (S) through the inner slot in the compressor bracket. Place a spacer (R) between the alternator bracket assembly and the alternator. 6. Align the compressor pulley with the combo pulley on the alternator (Figure 5). NOTE: The use of a straight edge may be helpful. IV. Installing the V-Belt and Idler Assembly Figure 5 1. Install the V-belt (M) onto the combo pulley and compressor drive pulley. 2. Install the idler assembly to the compressor bracket in the following order: carriage bolt (E), idler shaft (C), idler pulley (D), compressor bracket slot, flat washer (F) and nylock nut (I) (Figures 6 and 7). Do not tighten at this time. NOTE: The hardware must be installed in the above order to ensure proper operation. 3. Adjust the tension by sliding the idler assembly in the slot on the compressor bracket until the V-belt is firm. Figure 6 4. Once the desired tension has been attained, tighten the nylock nut. 4 V. Connecting the Alternator Cable 1. Route the alternator cable through the under-side of the compressor bracket and re-install at the rear of the alternator. 2. Reconnect the battery making sure that battery cables clear the engine-driven compressor pulley. 3. Start the engine and observe the belt pulley for alignment and tension. NOTE: Do not engage the clutch at this time. Figure 8 Figure 12 4
