2 PGX+ : the efficient punch-grinding machine Designed to grind The PGX+ has been specifically designed for punchgrinding applications and is capable of grinding round, eccentric and step punches up to 150 mm (6 ) in diameter. The PGX+ is not limited to grinding punches, it is also suitable for grinding many non-round parts such as orthopedic implants. PGX+ is a heavy duty 3-axis CNC punch grinder that meets the most demanding customer requirements in terms of cycle time, precision, rigidity and ease of operation. The robust cast iron direct-drive workhead has been designed for the extreme forces generated by grinding. With no belts or pulleys, the presence of backlash is eliminated, ensuring true positioning accuracy right up to the PGX+ maximum tool weight of 250 kg (550 lb). The PGX+ workhead can manually swivel +/-3 from the centre line enabling back tapers to be ground on punches and other tools.

4 PGX+: a combination of power and speed High rate of metal removal The PGX+ can use wheels from Ø560 mm (22 ) up to Ø762 mm (30 ). The large diameter wheel powered by a 22 kw (30 Hp) direct drive spindle results in very high metal removal rates with less wheel wear and minimal dressing. The wheel spindle is directly programmable for speeds from 200 to 3000 rpm. The high RPM gives the PGX+ the speed required for grinding using CBN wheels. The PGX+ can be tailored for CBN grinding with options such as rotary dresser with acoustic sensor, laminar-flow coolant nozzles, wheel jet cleaning kit and coolant pressure delivery options. The capacity to use CBN grinding technology opens doors to increased performance and productivity. Probe system A probe system is a standard inclusion on the PGX+. The probe can be automatically integrated into the grinding cycle to ensure precision is achieved every time. The probe can be used to correct eccentricity errors in the work holding or to orientate the part prior to grinding. Wheel balancing A standard inclusion of the PGX+ is the fully automatic wheel balancing unit. This unit is designed to balance the grinding wheel to a pre-determined level both prior and during the grinding process.

5 ANCA 5DX CNC control system The PGX+ uses the latest ANCA 5DX CNC system. This unique ANCA system provides greater dynamic performance resulting in higher precision, better accuracy and superior control. The 5DX CNC system includes the following: 15 Touch screen USB Support Inbuilt Modem Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) CD read/write; DVD read MPG feed (patented) PunchCAM software package The dedicated PunchCAM software on the PGX+ makes the task of programming and setup quick and easy. PunchCAM provides a high level of flexibility. Menu of standard shapes A menu displaying a comprehensive selection of common standard shapes. When a desired basic shape is selected the user is then able to input the required dimensions to suit their desired tool. Custom editor Any shape that falls out side the scope of the standard shape editor can be either imported as a DXF file or drawn directly using the 2D custom shape editor. Dressing When creating the wheel parameters, the user has the option to specify a standard wheel shape from the editor or input a custom wheel shape using a DXF file. Cylindrical grinding Although the PGX+ is primarily a punch grinding machine it has capability for cylindrical grinding. Multiple steps You can program up to 100 different individual steps with varying geometries with the PunchCAM software. This is ideal for producing multi-stage punches.

6 PGX+: productivity and efficiency Retracting tailstock When working with longer tools, the retracting tailstock can provide the additional support necessary to prevent deflection and vibration to maintain high stock removal and finished part accuracy. On-machine wheel dresser For wheel dressing the PGX+ can be supplied with a 2.7 kw (3.6 HP) motorized dresser or single point diamond tool post. The motorized dresser is designed for crush dressing, profile truing and dressing. Wheel changer For quick and easy removal and installation of the grinding wheel, the wheel changing device transfers the wheel from the machine to a vertical or horizontal position outside the machine. Linear scales For ultra precision work a linear scale option can be incorporated onto the X-axis for greater positional accuracy.
