16 INTRODUCTION TECHNOAIRRE NEW TECHNOAIRRE Technoairre is new section added to the catalog to provide insight into our products and their usage. This section cover questions regarding typical situations and problems faced during layout of electrical raceways which are beyond the scope of ordinary fittings or in some cases increase man hours due to difficulties faced and further makes maintenance troublesome. In this section we will provide solutions for such problems by means of options available for such situations. Once we are through this section we will be able to foresee the problems within the design phase of electrical raceway and thereby plan the solution beforehand which will further avoid delays and decrease effort in terms of man hours in execution phases. SESSION Q-1 How to mount and run the conduits in the raceways? SOL-1 Mounting and running of conduits is an important aspect of laying down electrical raceway. We can use channels and strut channel clamp to give support to conduits during their run or we can use straps (REF. P-1) to mount the conduit on mounting surfaces. Q-2 SOL-2 Conduits have to be placed in open location and strut channel clamps or steel straps are not heavy duty enough. What options I have? For such situations where sheet steel products are not usable rigid strap (REF. P-7)can be used to support and mount conduits on surfaces. This is made of malleable iron therefore heavy duty as compared to steel counterparts and thereby has a longer life Q-3 SOL-3 How to avoid dust accumulation in tight spaces between conduit and mounting surface to ease the maintenance? Clamp back (REF. P-7)can be used as spacer between conduit and mounting surface. Clamp back is designed to fit with rigid strap and prevents build up of dust, snow etc. in the tight spaces. Q-4 How to connect the conduit to boxes or enclosures? SOL-4 There are variety of ways to accomplish this. The most basic is to connect the conduit to a box or enclosure with a locknut (REF. P-3) P-14

17 TECHNOAIRRE Q-5 Is there any other better way to connect conduit to the box or enclosure? SOL-5 Locknut is a basic accessory to connect conduit directly to the enclosure. However rigid connector (REF. P-4)can be used to connect the threaded conduit to enclosure. It provides better fitting and support. Q-6 What is the solution if conduit is not threaded? SOL-6 In case threaded conduit is not required set screw connector (REF. P-4)can be used to connect the conduit to box or other female fitting. Set screw connector grips the conduit by tightening the screw of the connector. Q-7 SOL-7 What if the connection of conduit and box is in outdoor location? How to avoid dust or water from going into the conduits or enclosures? In such situations the possibility of dust or water due to rain entering the system can not be denied. For such locations rain tight hub (REF. P-4)can be used which comes furnished with seal and recessed oring to prevent dust or water from entering the system. Q-8 SOL-8 How to avoid conductor damage during pulling through conduits as they can get damaged by rough edges of conduits Insulated bushing or set screw bushing (REF. P-2)can be used to smoothen the edges of conduits and protect the conductors. These two variants differ in installation depending on conduits whether it is threaded or not. For threaded conduits insulated bushing is used and for threadless conduit set screw bushing is used Q-9 Is it possible to take care of grounding faults at this point only as they may damage the system? SOL-9 Yes, grounding bushing (REF. P-2)is further advancement to insulated bushing as it has a grounding lug attached to it to take care of grounding faults. Q-10 How to join two conduits of same size in long runs? SOL-10 Rigid coupling (REF. P-4)is used to join two threaded conduits of same size as it has female thread on both ends to fit the conduits. 18 TECHNOAIRRE Q-11 Again if conduits are not threaded what can we use? SOL-11 Set screw coupling (REF. P-5)just like set screw connector is designed to join threadless conduits with help of set screws present at both the ends. Q-12 SOL-12 We need to join two conduits of same size but the conduits are fixed at other ends and can not turn to fit on rigid coupling? Rigid coupling requires turning of conduits in order to fit on them. However for such situations Three Piece coupling (REF. P-5)can be used as it acts as union and do not require conduits to be turned to fit on coupling. Q-13 SOL-13 We need to join the conduits of same size but they are placed near wall and tight space does not allow much movement to fit the coupling? In this case the ordinary coupling is difficult to use and may cause more difficulty later in maintenance jobs. Even three piece coupling cant find room in tight space. For such situation split coupling (REF. P- 5)can be used which fits with combination of thread and bolts and is easy to use during maintenance. Q-14 Still we need to join conduits in area with possibility of explosive gases. How can we reduce that risk? SOL-14 Union Explosion proof design (REF. P-5)is built to withstand the impact of expolosion and provide passage to gases upon cooling. This will reduce the impact of explosion to affect the surroundings and other systems in proximity. Q-15 How can we get access to conductors in raceways for future maintenance SOL-15 Conduit bodies (REF. P-8,P-9)are designed to ease the maintenance by providing easy access to conductors and protect them. These are available in different design to suit the need of the system Q-16 What option is available for this in hazardous locations? SOL-16 Conduit outlet boxes (REF. P-9,P-10) have same function as conduit body but are designed to fit in hazardous locations. Explosion proof design render them suitable for this application. These are also available in different designs to suit the needs of the system. P-16
