LOUIS ====================================== KEEPING THE TRADITION ALIVE President s Points August 2014 Mike Herbert Hello Eveyone Looks like another month has come and gone. It s hard to believe that August is already here. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Now isn t that an eye opening statement? Once again we had a very active month full activities. We had everything from a car show and fireworks display at Twin Oaks Baptist Church. There were two other car shows plus the wine tasting in Augusta, MO. Dinner was afterwards in Washington, MO. Finally the Fords Unlimited Car Show was at JS McDonnell Park in St. Ann this past Sunday the 27 th. The wine tasting cruise was well attended and a success so we ll probably be setting up another one in the near future. This past Sunday the 27 th was the 28 th Annual Car Show for the Fords Unlimited Car Club. The show was well attended with over 210 cars entered. We had at least 25 members participate in this event with at least 20 members receiving an award. Also, Nolan and Gina Blake received a Best in Show award for their 2008 Shelby Gt500 in the Muscle Mustang classes. Two other members of the club were lucky enough to have their tickets drawn. First was Roy Vining winning a grand attendance prize of cash. Then Mr. Lucky, Randy Glen won Cardinal baseball tickets. Lastly the club was fortunate enough to win the Club Participation Award again this year. We donated the cash award back the charity, Backstoppers. It was definitely a great day for the club. 2 President s Points Page 2 Continued from previous page... On another front, Dan Verbeke has volunteered to head up a committee to help push the license plate applications. This is something that we really need to get going on. Sharon Richardson has been working on this for several years starting with the development and approval processes. She has devoted a lot of time trying to get the required number of initial applications gathered so that they can be sent to the DOR. It s time for us to really step up and get this done. I don t want to see all of Sharon s hard work and efforts go for naught. Let s do this NOW!!! Finally, there has been an increase in membership over the last two months. This is really great news as we continue to grow and prosper. If you attend a meeting or an event you can just sit back and watch all of the conversations going on. Photo by Shelby - See more at: The first 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake was delivered to the new Shelby Automotive Museum in Southern California on Dec. 26, The 850-hp, Grabber Blue pony car wearing chassis number 14SS0010 will take its place among the rest of Shelby's classics, and it will also join the Shelby Registry.Shelby American is offering two Super Snake packages for The lesser upgrade adds cosmetic tweaks, a Shelby cooling package, Wilwood front and rear brakes, 20-inch wheels, upgraded tires, a new muffler kit, a short-throw shifter, and a bunch of suspension upgrades. It costs $28,995, in addition to the cost of a GT500, which is $55,935.The more expensive package includes all of the other upgrades, and it adds a 3.6-liter Kenne Bell supercharger to boost engine output to 850-hp. This package costs $39,995. Many consider the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake to be the pinnacle of the outgoing solid axle Mustang line, said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American. Carroll was very proud of its breathtaking performance, which was developed after Ford upped the GT500's capabilities in Since he was personally involved with both the pre-title GT500 and post-title Super Snake package, it's fitting that the first car off our new factory line would be for Carroll's Trust. Only 500 examples will be built at Shelby's new factory in Las Vegas. Each will be numbered and documented in the Shelby Registry. 6 News From The Stable Page 6 Lincoln "won't rule out" Mustang-based performance car Like American muscle, but think the Ford Mustang isn't classy enough for you? Well, you might be in luck. Lincoln s head of marketing and sales, Matt VanDyke, says a Mustang-based car could be in the cards for the luxury brand. Speaking with Edmunds.com about the company s upcoming cars, which are limited to front-wheel-based sedans and crossovers, and the Navigator SUV, VanDyke said we need to get into other segments with other vehicles. Asked if a sporty, Mustang based model could be part of the mix, VanDyke asswered we won t rule out anything. Ford s business philosophy, known as One Ford, calls for multiple models to be built off common platforms, and the upcoming 2015 Mustang is the only car in the U.S. that s a one-off. Interestingly, the chassis for the 2004 Mustang was loosely-based on the one under the Lincoln LS, which was Lincoln s last attempt at building a rear-wheel-drive sports sedan. Then, in 2007, Lincoln unveiled the sleek Mustang-based MKR concept, but never made it into production. How soon before a Lincoln muscle car could hit the streets? Probably not before 2017, at the earliest. The company is in the middle of refreshing its core lineup, with a new Navigator coming later this year, followed by updated MKX and MKS models for 2016, and a possible compact sedan joining the mix. 7 Page 7 News From The Stable F-35 Ford Mustang ready to fly...on the ground The F-35 may have just gotten approval to fly, but this one s designed to stay on the ground. A Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter jet-themed 2015 Ford Mustang GT will be auctioned off on July 31st at the annual Gathering of Eagles charity event held in conjunction with the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The proceeds of the sale will benefit the EAA s Young Eagles educational foundation. Ford has ponied up a special Mustang for the auction each of the past few years, including ones designed as tributes to the Tuskeegee Airmen and the USAF s Thunderbirds precision flying team. This year s car gets a deep carbon fiber chin spoiler and large rear wing to go with grey paint and a tail livery that apes that of the F-35C aircraft carrier version of the multirole aircraft. The flags of the nine nations involved in the program appear along the bottom of the doors. Special seats and amber-tinted window glass like that used on a fighter pilot s helmet round out the unique package. Although it's logo is a horse, depending on the storyteller, the Mustang name may have first been inspired by the World War II-era P-51 fighter plane. No reserve price has been set for the car, but previous editions have sold for as much as $400,000. OUCH!

This group of people will provide an avenue for the exchange of ideas and information about the care and maintenance of America s most popular pony car. The club holds monthly meetings and additional social events throughout the year. The $20.00 annual dues include a monthly newsletter, Unbridled, free classified advertising in the newsletter, an invitation to all club activities, and the friendship of a great group of people with a common interest in all Ford Mustangs.
