2 Volume 4, Issue 8 PRESIDENT S POINTS First off let me apologize for the newsletter being so late this month. There have been some personal issues that I ve been dealing with around our house. It looks like things have turned around and things are getting back to normal. The month of July was another busy time for the club with a lot of activities going on. Every weekend was busy with some type of event. We started off the month by participating in the Webster Groves Fourth of July Parade. What a great turnout we had with no less than 23 cars participating. There were Mustangs as far as the eye could see in the streets of downtown Webster Groves. On July 9 th we cruised up to PUR Performance for the annual Blue Cruise to help benefit the BackStoppers organization. This event is put on by the Fords Unlimited Car Club and the Show-Me Mustang Club. We had 23 cars attend this event and helped raise much needed funds. Several members from the Fords Unlimited Car Club came over to our canopy area and personally thanked us for participating. The following weekend several of our members attended the SIMA car show at Roberts Ford. They are located in Alton, Illinois. It was your typical July hot and humid day for this show. A few of our members were able to bring home an award from this show. On Friday, July 22 nd we had a good turnout for the cruise to Imo s in Winghaven. This was the first time this location. The manager was very impressed and has invited us back for another cruise night. The guys from Judd s Photos were there taking some pretty cool pictures. We also had shaved ice snow cones available to help cool everybody down. It was a really fun night and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. We also had a two good friends stop by for the evening in their new pony. Rich and Carolyn Sutorious arrived in their new red 2012 Boss 302. It was great to see and visit with them at the cruise. Page 2 Finally on July 31 st we had a huge turnout for the Fords Unlimited 25 th Annual Car Show at JS McDonnell Park in St. Ann. There were a total of 32 members that came out and participated in this great event. If I remember correctly Bob Layton from Fords Unlimited told me they had 239 cars registered for the show. It was great day for our club with 24 members placing in the show. Kim Tidrow won the Cardinal baseball tickets and we also won the Club Participation Award. We promptly donated that back to Fords Unlimited to be used for their Toys for Tots drive this upcoming holiday season. As you can see this was a very busy time for our club. We have already organized and participated in 30 events this year, not counting the ones we have done for August. At this rate we may get close to the magical number of 50 events for the year. I know that there are several cool and different events coming up for the rest of the year. Keep checking the website and watch your for these upcoming events. Please remember to send pictures and articles to our newsletter editor. Also the same thing goes for the website. We can t publish what we don t receive. I know there were a couple of things missed last month but we are working hard on getting everything added to the website that needs to be there. Also please get your new Mustang license plate applications into Sharon. They are starting to trickle in now but we need a BIG push to get to 200 so that we can send the applications into the DMV. You don t have to wait until your plates are due to apply. There has been a lot of hard work on Sharon s part to make this happen. Let s show her how much we appreciate her efforts by getting the applications filled out and sent to her Until next month, Keep the Tradition Alive Mike Herbert President

4 Volume 4, Issue 8 Once the early morning shower was over, the sun came out and so did the MCSTL Mustangs. After the big hit, the Mustangs of MCSTL made at the St. Patrick s Day Parade downtown on March 12, members got together to celebrate Independence Day in Webster Groves. Some of the club s members even made the 10 o clock news coverage of the Webster Groves Community Days Parade. The Parade is one of the largest celebrating the 4th of July annually. Webster didn t present awards like the Best Motorized Unit we won in the St. Pat s parade b u t 32ND ANNUAL INDIANAPOLIS MUSTANG & ALL FORD CAR SHOW AND SWAP June 25-26, 2011 everyone had just as good a time. As you can see from the picture of a some of the attending members, the excitement of the day was just too much for some.

7 Page 7 Volume 4, Issue 8 IMO S WINGHAVEN CAR DISPLAY July 22, 2011 Submitted By: Rich Johnston SIMA SOUTHERN ILLINOIS MUSTANG ASSOCIATION 34TH ANNUAL ROUNDUP ROBERTS FORD July 16, 2011 Although July was VERY HOT, it didn t stop our club from enjoying a warm evening cruise to Imo s Pizza in Winghaven. We had around 30 cars show up. Imo s was VERY HOSPITABLE to our group giving us discounts and even coming around outside to get us free refills on our drinks! Kono s Shaved Ice/Ice Cream truck was in attendance to help keep us cool with treats. In addition, Judd s Custom Photo showed up with their tent and discounts for us and produced some excellent car photos for our club members. I was for tunate enough to obtain a Night Vision delayed lens opening shot enhanced only by the parking lot lights with my two Mustangs. Then they did their computer magic to make it look like a painting. I was VERY impressed and happy! Despite the heat, a great time was had by one and all.
8 Page 8 Volume 4, Issue 8 SIMPLE TIMES OF THE PAST Submitted By: Rich Johnston Guess I am getting old, or maybe I'm already there as I scour the internet and think about todays technology. Communication with friends is so easy today, but is it really quality advancement in our day to day lives? While my neighborhood has tons of kids, you seldom see any of them outside playing and using their imagination. Instead, I assume they are inside on their computer games or on their cell phones "texting" friends instead of talking with them. As my old mind wandered about today vs. the past, I started thinking about old times and family vacations. I was fortunate enough growing up we took an annual vacation via "car"! Yea, most often it was on a par with "National Lampoons Vacation", but the memories bring a smile to my face. As I had 2 older brothers, the back seat was a little cramped and dad like to drive 15 hours a day to get where we were headed on our trips. I remember driving through the desert on our way to California in our brand new 1960 Dodge and my oldest brother got the whole back seat to sleep on, my middle brother put pillows on the back seat floor to sleep and I slept laying up in the back window of the car (LOL, try that today and see what happens!) But car rides were still fun, and the car games and sing alongs were all part of the experience. A dear old friend of mine who was a WWII vet and fought at the Battle of The Bulge past away not too long ago. His memory was sharp and the stories he told would keep you riveted to your seat. One of the things I remember was a car song he told me they use to sing. I googled it but while variations of FORD and TIN BOARD rhymes came up, his did not. So in hope of keeping his little song going in history, I wanted to share it with you. It is a silly fun simple song, just like many things of the past. Here it is for you FORD lovers I've got an F-O-R-D Ford Made of T-I-N tin board, And I'll T-A-K-E take you for an R-I-D-E ride. In the P-A-R-K park where it's D-A-R-K dark, and I'll K-I-S-S kiss you all the T-I-M-E time. ahhhh, the simple times
