1 General information According to the UNECE R48 regulation, the vehicle is required to be equipped with side marker lamps if it is longer than 6 metres and has bodywork. General information For vehicles longer than 9 metres, the following is required as from : The vehicle must have 3 direction indicators or at least 3 side marker lamps with direction indicators on each side in addition to the vehicle s standard direction indicators. Side marker lamps with Direction indication in side marker lamps (variant code 7176A) flash together with the vehicle s standard direction indicators. The side marker lamps are fitted at the factory and are usually located on the side underrun protection or on the rear mudguard. If there are no side underrun protections or mudguard on the vehicle, the side marker lamps are delivered transport-mounted. In order for Scania s certificate to be valid, the lamps are required to be fitted in accordance with Scania s instructions. 2 Requirements for Scania s certificate to be valid Requirements for Scania s certificate to be valid The following requirements must be met for Scania s certificate for light installations to be valid: The horizontal distance between 2 side marker lamps must not exceed 3,000 mm (A). The distance from the bottom of the side marker lamp to the ground must be between 450 mm and 1,090 mm (B). The distance from the top of the side marker lamp to the ground must be between 550 mm and 1,340 mm (D). The side marker lamp must be visible at an angle of ± 45 in the vehicle s driving direction (parallel to the vehicle s longitudinal centre plane). The distance between the rear end of the vehicle and the side marker lamp must not exceed 1,000 mm (C). 3 Final installation of lamps Final installation of lamps Transport-mounted lamp When the side marker lamp is delivered transport-mounted by Scania, the bodybuilder carries out the final placement. The side marker lamp is delivered attached to the chassis frame and with the cable coiled and attached with cable ties to the side marker lamp. The cable length is sufficient to reach the outer edge of the truck. Work description Proceed as follows: Remove the transport-mounted side marker lamp from the chassis frame. 2. Fit a lamp bracket from Scania on the vehicle or manufacture a new bracket from steel, 2 mm thick, with the hole dimensions as shown in the illustration. 3. Fit the side marker lamp to the lamp bracket. 4. Clamp the cable. More information on clamping of cables is found in the document Working with cables and lead throughs.
