1 Function Function The remote engine start function is used to start the engine from outside the cab. Behaviour The direction indicators are used to provide a visual acknowledgement as to whether the attempt at starting was successful or not: If the starting conditions are met the engine starts and all the direction indicators flash. If the starting conditions are not met, it fails to start and the direction indicators will remain continuously lit. The acknowledgement can be adjusted using SDP3 (Scania Diagnos and Programmer 3). This is sent both when starting is successful and when it fails, or not at all. The components and cable harness for the condition check are included in the factory-fitted options which are required in order for connection of the function to be carried out. WARNING! For safety reasons, it should also be possible to switch off the engine from outside the cab. It is safest to use the Remote engine shutdown function, which is activated via C259 with a stop switch located immediately adjacent to the start button. 22: Issue 2.1 en-gb 1 (8)

2 Function Activation The following conditions must be met on activation: The Inhibit remote engine start parameter must not be activated. Starter key in drive position EXT-switch activated The engine must be switched off No engine shutdown functions activated Parking brake applied Drive mode selector and gearbox in neutral If these conditions are fulfilled, the function can be activated via BIC (Bodywork Interface Configuration) and External CAN. The switch must be spring-loaded. When attempting to start, it should be held down for a certain time, the verification period, otherwise the attempt to start the engine will be cancelled and the engine will stop. The verification period can be adjusted using SDP3. The factory setting is 1 s. If the switch is held down for longer than 10 s after the engine has been started, a stop request is sent so that the engine is switched off again. When an attempt to start the engine is cancelled, the stop symbol in the instrument cluster main display or an indicator lamp will come on. With or without EXT switch (sequential check) With EXT switch: The EXT switch must be activated after the starter key has been turned to the drive position. Only then can the selected function be activated. Without EXT switch: The function can be activated with a signal to the selected pin or via External CAN. 22: Issue 2.1 en-gb 2 (8)

6 Example of connection using BICT, +24 V and ground V 2 This description shows a connection inside the cab. 8 Connection via External CAN This description shows a connection inside the cab. Information on how to make the connection with an extension harness on the chassis is found in the document Cable harness cab and frame (22:10-080). To be able to make a connection via External CAN, the following is required: The vehicle is equipped with BCI functionality variant code 5837A C493 The parameter for External CAN is activated The connection is made directly to connector C493 (External CAN-low to pin 3 and External CAN-high to pin 4).
