1 Series 2300 Gun End Hose Repair Kit nstruction Sheet 46-l 70 Page 1 SERES 2300 GUN END HOSE REPAR KT KT DESCRPTON This used to repair broken electrical plugs on the gun end of Nordson Series 2300 Hoses. Two types of repairs can be made with the kit: replacement of damaged sockets replacement of the hose cuff UNPACKNG NSTRUCTONS Carefully unpack the contents of the kit. You will find the following parts: five hose cuffs with (plug) connectors five hose cuff cover collars e five hose cuff collars * 10 screws five O-rings one ratchet-type crimping tool with manufacturer s instruction sheet, S 7574 two socket/pin removal tools 125 sockets n addition, the repair procedure will require a Phillips screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, and wire strippers. A A WARNNG: Even when switched off, Nordson hoses contain electrical potentials that can cause death. Before repairing or replacing the electrical plug assembly, disconnect and lock out power to the main circuit breaker for the applicator input power line. WARNNG: ncorrectly wired connectors can result in electrical shock that can cause death, personal injury, equipment damage or failure, or cause uncontrolled gun heating,which can result in fire. Do the following to ensure your safety: 1. Before beginning repairs, read the crimp tool manufacturer s instruction sheet, S Pay particular attention to the instructions in item 3, CRMPNG PROCEDURE. 2. Make sure to tag any wire before removing it during repair and to replace it in the correct socket hole as viewed from the end where the wires plug into the cuff connector. 3. As necessary, refer to the hose schematics, Figure 5, at the end1 of these instructions. Nordson is not responsible for any equipment damage or any personal. injury that may result from incorrectly wired connectors. WARhTNG: Exposing excess wire strands can result in electrical shock that can cause death, personal injury, equipment damatge or failure, or cause uncontrolled gun heating which can result in fire. Make sure to strip only a l/8 in. (3 mm) length of insulation from any wire on which a replacement socket is being installed. WARNNG: When using needle-nose pliers to hold wires, be careful not to damage wire insulation. Disconnect and lock out power to the main circuit breaker for the applicator input power line. 2. Follow the DALY SHUTDOWN procedure located in the applicator technical manual. 3. Disconnect, the gun electrical plug from the cuff connector. 4. Disconnect the unit, end electrical plug from the applicator. 5. Remove the gun from the hose. 6. Slide the collar cover and collar off the cuff. 8. f the hose cuff is broken, go to Hose Cuff Replacement. f one or more of the sockets is faulty, go to Replacing Faulty Sockets. f the hose cuff is broken, all of the wires connected to the cuff connector will need to be removed and replaced. Do the following: 1. Take one of the socket/pin removal tools from the kit. Holding it by the handle (Figure 2), insert the removal tool sleeve into the hole of the socket that is being removed. SLEEVE PUSH ROD - Figure 2 - Socket/Pin Removal Tool 2. Continue to insert the sleeve until it bottoms out. Let the push rod back out of the handle as the sleeve is inserted. 3. Rotate the tool body in order to release the socket locking lance. 4. While keeping the sleeve bottomed out in the socket hole, depress the push rod. This will push the socket out of the socket receptacle. 5. Tag the wire with the number of the socket hole that it enters. 6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each socket. 7. 5 Series 2300 Gun End Hose Repair Kit nstruction Sheet 46-l 70 Page 5 8. Slide a new O-ring from the kit into the cuff connector of one of the new hose cuffs (Figure 1). NOTE: The O-ring keeps dust out and helps provide a firm connection between the gun plug and the cuff connector. Replacing Faulty Sockets 9. nspect all the sockets for damage. f there are no damaged sockets, go to Final Repair Procedures. f there are damaged sockets, go to Replacing Faulty Sockets. 1. f not already done, slide one of the new O-rings from the kit into the cuff connector (Figure 1). NOTE: When cutting off faulty sockets, make the cut just behind the socket in order to leave as much of the wire as possible. 2. Use wire cutters to cut tlhe defective socket off the wire. Discard the socket. A WARNNG: Exposing excess wire strands can result in electrical shock that can cause death, personal injury, equipment damage or failure, or cause uncontrolled gun bleating which can result in fire. Make sure to strip only a l/8 in. (3 mm) length of insulation from any wire on which a replacement socket is being installed. 3. Being careful not to damage the insulation, use needle-nose pliers to hold the wire and prevent breaking. Strip l/8 in. (3 mm) of insulation off the shortened wire. Attach the new socket by following step 3, Crimping Procedure, in the crimping tool manufacturer s instruction sheet, S Make sure the strip length and placement of the wires in the contact are as show:n in Figure 3. (3 mm) Figure 3 - Proper Wire Stripping Length and Placement in Crimp Contact 5. Make sure the tag on each wire matches the number of the hole it is inserted into (see Figure 1). 6. Being careful not to damage the insulation, use needle-nose pliers to push each socket into its respective hole (Figure 4, Detail B). 7. Make sure that the socket is pushed all the way into the hole. When seated, sockets will lock and cannot be pulled out (Figure 4, Detail C). 8. Replace any other damaged sockets by repeating steps 2 through 6. ssued 3 91 G NORDSON CORPORATON 1991 Pubkation No A

Replace and tighten the two screws that secure the collar and collar cover to the cuff. 3. Reconnect the gun to the hose. 4. Reconnect the unit end electrical plug to the applicator. 5. Reconnect the gun electrical plug to the cuff connector. 6. Restore power to the applicator. 7.
