24 Case Study technical hotline +44 (0) palm island, dubai Described by the developers as The Eighth Wonder of the World, the Palm Island project off Dubai s coast was always going to be to an unrivalled scale, with requirements on suppliers being tested to the limit. Palm Jumeriah, the first of three such man-made islands has a diameter of 5Km and is designed with the outline of a giant date palm tree. The development will boast luxury hotels, restaurants, shopping complexes and health spas as well as lavish residential villas. Palm Island was certainly not a project for the faint hearted, and the successful design, manufacture and delivery of the electrical components to be fitted in the 1,800 exclusive properties built on the Palm required the full resources of an industry leading company. MK was the logical choice, rising to the challenge of delivering the company s largest ever, single order for wiring accessories within a tight five-month timeframe. So, MK have proven that they can work in a truly bespoke way for their customers, not only in reorganising their production lines to manage this increased workflow, but also in the rapid development of new products which were added to the Aspect range to meet the exact specification of the Palm development. The products used were centred around the chic designer looks of the decorative Aspect range of switches and socket outlets. Perfectly engineered with a slim profile and screw-less front plate to complement the luxury villas required levels of sophistication and meet the high standards of the super-rich owners, including such famous names as the eckhams, who have already made purchases. Further, the number of finishes available in the Aspect range of accessories meant that the three main villa themes (Modern, Classical & Antique) could easily be accommodated. MK s Logic Plus ranges, as well as Masterseal socket outlets, were also specified on the project.
