1 The manual of V belt design program 2009/3/31 Installation 1. Download and unzip the installer of V belt design program. Installation will be started by double-clicking the installer. Follow the instructions on the display to finish the setup. (See download page of our Homepage for detailed procedure.) 2. The normal installation directory and file name of the program are as the following. Directory C:\Program Files\MITSUBOSHIBELTING\V_BELT\ File name V_BELT_E.exe 3. If you want to uninstall the program, use the "Add/Remove Programs" utility in the Microsoft Windows Control Panel. Table of contents 1. 2 1. Input process The following is an input screen of the V belt design program. The length of the V belt accommodates to JIS K 6323 (JIS : Japanese Industrial Standard) Figure 1. The Input Screen of the V Belt Design Program 1.1 Input of the use conditions Following eight items are required to input data for the calculation. 1Service factor You can directly type in service factor to the column. The service factor can auto-configure by clicking on the "Ref." button. (The usage of the service factor subroutine is detailed at section 1.2.) 23Transmission Power There are two columns with different units. At column 2, the unit is "kw". At column 3, the unit is "PS". Inputting either of the columns, the other one is calculated automatically. 4Revolution of the driver pulley 5Revolution of the driven pulley 6Pitch diameter of the driver pulley 7Pitch diameter of the driven pulley There are four columns at this part. After three columns are filled in, the last column is calculated automatically. The unit of Revolution is "rpm" and Pitch diameter is "mm". 8Center distance Input the distance between shafts of driver pulley and driven pulley. The unit is "mm". After inputting all required columns, click on the "Calculate" button. The calculation will be carried out both STANDARD and RED grade of the belt. If you have any restrictions to adopt belts, you can assign the belt type and/or the number of the belts. At column 9, you can assign the belt type (M, A, B, C, D, and E). At column 10 and 11, you can assign the number of the belts.

3 1.2 Setting of Service Factor Figure 2. The Input Screen to Set the Service Factor 1TYPES of DRIVEN MACHINES (Required) Select the machine type on which you use the V belt. If your machine is not found in the table, select the machine from similar torque group. 2TYPES of DRIVING UNITS (Required) Select the type of the driving unit based on the maximum power. 3SERVICE CONDITION (Required) Select the hours of operation per day. 4ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS (Option) Check the boxes of applied conditions that the V belt is used. After selecting from 1 to 3 (optionally 4), the TOTAL SERVICE FACTOR is calculated automatically. Click on the "APPLY" button to reflect the calculation result to the main screen.

4 2. Calculation results 2.1 Without OPTIONAL CONDITION Figure 3. Calculation Results without OPTIONAL CONDITION This is an example of the calculation results without optional condition. In this case, OPTIONAL CONDITION is not assigned, so optimum belt type and number of belts for the system will be given. In the case of you use STANDARD B-Type, five belts are required to achieve 20,000 hours of belt lifetime. In the case of you use RED B-Type, three belts are required to achieve 20,000 hours of belt lifetime. The upper limit of Calculated Life is 20,000 hours. Calculated Life is given as estimated value. It does not assure lifetime of V belts.

5 2.2 With OPTIONAL CONDITION Figure 4. Calculation Results with OPTIONAL CONDITION This is the example of the calculation results with optional condition. In this case, Belt type and Number of belts are assigned. If you have any restrictions to adopt belts, you can assign the belt type and/or the number of the belts. ex.1) You already have pulleys and want to replace used belts. In such case, you would have to assign belt type such as M, A, B, etc.. ex.2) You can't prepare enough space to set many V belts. In such case, you would have to assign number of belts. In this example, both Belt type (A-Type) and Number of belts (STANDARD : 3, RED : 3) are assigned. Calculation results are shown at right side of the window. In the case of you use STANDARD A-Type, seven belts are required to achieve 20,000 hours of belt lifetime. If you use only three STANDARD A-Type belts, the estimated lifetime of belts is 44 hours. In the case of you use RED A-Type, four belts are required to achieve 20,000 hours of belt lifetime. If you use only three RED A-Type belts, the estimated lifetime of belts is 6,224 hours.

6 3. Printing Select "File">"Print" from Menu Bar. If you assign belt type and/or number of belts, the words [BELT TYPE] and/or [Number of STD Belts,Number of RED Belts] will appear at [SELECTED DESIGN ITEM] row. Attention : The required number of belts, which is displayed on the results window, will not be printed. 4. Save and load of the calculated data You can save the calculated data by selecting File menu from Menu Bar. Save as Data is saved in original file form *.WDV extension. You can create a new saved file. Save Data is saved in original file form *.WDV extension. Old saved data will disappear. Text save Data is saved in text file extension *.txt. Saved file can be opened by Memo Pad, Microsoft Word, etc.. You can load the saved data by selecting "File">"Open" from Menu Bar.
