1 AREC Technical Subcommittee Chairman - Tofa Vaj'agae, ASEPA Director Technical Subcommittee Focus and Role (Guidance from Misty of NREL): "ASREC TS should focus on assessment, deployment, and looking into cost effective, energy efficiency, and renewable energy opportunities." This could include the following: 1. Conservation - Public Education 2. Utilities Power Generation and Utility Renewable Technology Generation. 3. Efficiency building design 4. Grid Integration and Grid Integration Study 5. Transportation Other focus for this committee is to see how we can separate Utility scale and Small scale. ASPA is already working on the Utility Scale which is the generation scale. ASREC TS explore smaller scale. 1. Conservation a. Small Scale i. Residential Estimate equipment ratings of appliances and how to calculate energy savings. This template can be used as part of our conservation efforts and the need for customers to use energy efficiency appliances. We could add more appliances to this template. Here is a simple example indicate savings that can be expected. For example CFL lights versus Incandescent Bulb A 1 w incandescent bulb versus a 25 w CFL both light bulbs give out the same light output. If a residential customer use the lights at average of 4 hours a night Total energy usage in a month Incandescent Bulb = 1 w x 4 (hrs per night) x 3 (days per month) divided by 1 (to convert to kwh) = 12 kwh At 35 cents per kwh =12 kwh x 35c =$4.2
2 An average home of 5 lights total costs =$4.2 x 5 =$21. If a residential customer use CFL light bulb (energy efficient) which has one quarter Watt rating (25 watt) to that of the incandescent bulb (1 watt) it will only costs u $5.25 in energy bill per month. A net savings of $15.75 per month. So example will works for other appliance, always look at the WATT or KW appliance rating before making a decision to purchase. ii. Commercial: b. Large Scale i. ASG Utilities Load Controls relays -to control lightning and AC. Install all CFL and T8 for all the School 1. ASG -DOE Actual kwh Cost- Energy Saving with Conservation measures Funding - ARRA program ii. Utility 1. Feeder 1 2. ORC 2. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technology Utility Generation. a. Small Scale i. 1KW PV - Residential Actual Cost kwh Energy Saving with PV Funding - Loan or Rebate program ii. Solar Water Heater Actual Cost kwh- Energy Saving with Solar Water Heater Funding - Loan or Rebate program b. Other Technology
3 c. Large Scale i. IMW PV - ASPA ii. 5KW PV - TEO iii. 3KW PV - TEO iv. ORC - ASPA v. Wind Anemometers - ASPA 3. Public Education 4.
