September sales were up 3 per cent over September, 938 ; October sales were up by 8 per cent with the result that the unfavorable comparison for the year to date has been reduced to 8 per cent compared with the correspondn tenonth period of 93 8 Passenger car sales numbered 5,850 units with a retail value of 6,428,869 up 9 per cent in number and 0 per cent in value from the 5,392 new passenger cars which retailed for.5, 824,72 in October, 93 8 Manitoba and Alberta were the only provinces which did not report improved business, sales in anitoba being per cent below last year, and in Alberta, 6 per cent. Quebec and Ontario reported xnoderate gains of 2 per cent and 5 per ccnt respectively, while the other provinces showcd more substantial increases. British Columbia sales were up 7 per cent, sales in the Maritime Provinces increased 20 per cent and Saskatchewan again led with sales 4 per cent above last year. Sales of new trucks and buses showed improvement over 93 8 for the first time this year. There were,20 new conunercial vehicles sold for of 8.,482,73, an incroase per cent lnnurnc: and per cent in aluo over the October,,24 sold for 93 8 l,337,3. in Different sections of the country showed widely varying trends. Sales of now trucks and buses increased 02 per cent in Sasktchcwan, 43 per cent in Ontario and 3 per cent in the Maritine Provinces.
