They are the type that make your Miata Zoom-Zoom happy. Twisties start immediately out of the dealership. We will be traveling in Greene County, Washington County, and West Virginia. This will be a sporty cruise. The restaurant is in a place you never would dream to find one. I've talked about the roads and burgers but there is also some of the most beautiful scenic vistas. After lunch, we will cruise to Sarris Chocolate Factory and Ice Cream Parlour for our end of the cruise ice cream. Bring a cooler in case you want to purchase some candy. 3 3 I Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Report by Joe & Linda Zimliki t poured in the morning which delayed our entry onto the grounds. The day turned hot and humid but that didn't deter our members. We had 40 plus Miatas represented on urday. Our members brought food to share and a few new members joined. It was a great turnout and the Presque Isle Miata club joined us for the day. Some members of the Mass Miata Club also stopped by to say Hi. Thank you Wally for another great job organizing this event. Prabhupada'S Palace of Gold Report by Dennis & Ruthann Weber O n Sunday morning August 31, the occupants of twelve colorful little cars went to Mc Donald's in Washington PA to pee. There we found our cruise leaders, Ray and Barb McBride, who filled us with cookies and valuable cruise information. Their instructions were so well written and organized that no one got lost the entire day! The Miata gods gave us blue skies and warm sunshine to enjoy the curvy back roads of Pennsylvania and West Virginia on our way to Moundsville West Virginia. Just North of Moundsville, Ray and Barb found a narrow bumpy road to America s Taj Mahal - North America s only genuine palace. Overlooking the hills and valleys of the Appalachian foot hills we found Prabhupada's Palace of Gold. Its 22 karat gold domes glistened in the bright sun shine. Inside we found fifty two varieties of marble and onyx covering walls and floors, all imported from Europe, Asia, and Africa. The hand carved teakwood doors and furniture were works of art. Under the main thirty ton dome was a 4200 piece crystal ceiling and many hand painted murals. Everywhere we found 22K gold leaf from ceilings to walls inside and out. The palace was built by young "do it yourself" (no skilled labor involved) devotees to provide a home to their spiritual leader Srila Prabhupada, who died before it was completed. We then headed for some needed food and air-conditioning at "Leeann s" in Wind Ridge WV and found good eats, cold iced tea, and great atmosphere with cute servers. Did I mention good food? After lunch we enjoyed more smooth windy roads back through Washington Pa to the Meadow Lands for our cool reward of ice cream. Thanks again to Ray and Barb for an enjoyable cruise. A cruise has been added to the schedule on August 20th. Details are in the newsletter and on the forum. On August 27th, the WPMC is having its annual end of the summer picnic. This year the club will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Hope to see you there for the festivities. We have some changes in our schedule. The Golf Outing on September 18th has been changed to Sunday, October 2nd. The September 17th cruise has been placed on hold due to the cruise leader's arm surgery. I have several other Miata club events for our members. These will be posted on our event page under other Miata Club Events. The 2011 comes with a 2.0-liter and a host of safety features that have improved power and peace of mind, but have stretched the car's waistline. Mazda's plan is to bring the next Miata closer to its debut weight, using high-strength steel to maintain a rigid chassis while cutting out weight and installing a new, lighter engine that could be as small as 1.4 liters. The Miata is said to be an icon of open air driving. Part of a Miata's charm is it is usually always capable of putting you in a good mood. Right!!! If you haven't been to the Vintage Grand Prix, definitely make plans to attend next year. You won't be disappointed. I want to thank Wally Swarmer for the great job he did organizing this event for the WPMC. The Miata is Watching Its Weight Too QUINCY, Mass. - The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a welterweight in today's car world, weighing in at a scant 2,480 pounds, but the next-generation MX-5 Miata could be much lighter. According to Edmunds' Inside Line, Mazda engineers are aiming to cut 720 pounds from the current car. Zoom, zoom zoom!
