The theme seems to be car shows, and a couple of exceptional car shows they are! On Sunday, July 12th, Brian Bartlett will host a drive from his, and wife, Sherry s home in Plymouth, Indiana to beautiful Hickory Corners, Michigan as the Gilmore Car Museum hosts the 25th Annual Mad Dogs & Englishmen British Car Faire. This year s show will feature Triumph TRs and the Morgan as the rare gem, plus wander through the For Sale corral and check out the swap meet area. Enjoy People s Choice judging, car games and rides in the Museum s Austin London Taxi and British Tea Time, too! General Admission is $12.00 per person children 11 & under are FREE and includes all museum exhibits at no extra charge. Dig out that old derby hat from the back of the closet and take a drive in your roadster that recaptured the spirit of driving the classic British roadster, but without the need for a degree in electrical engineering just to keep Lucas, the Prince of Darkness from possessing your car! The following weekend of July 18th, Indy Miata will be hosting several members of the Greater Cincinnati Miata Club for a weekend full of activities built around the Indianapolis Museum of Art s Dream Cars: Innovative Designs, Visionary Ideas Exhibit. This spectacular exhibition features rare concept cars from the early 1930s to the 21st century, and will showcase some of the most unique vehicles ever created by top names in the automotive field. Along with conceptual drawings and scale models, the exhibition explores the evolution of revolutionary automobile design that pushed the limits of the imagination and shaped the future of the industry, and will feature both American and European concept car designs. Our weekend will begin on Saturday morning, July 18th at 10:00 A.M. as members from the Indianapolis and Cincinnati clubs meet at the IMA. Special parking is included in the reduced admission price of $12/person (normally $18). At precisely 11:00, Ken & Joan Rabbers have made arrangements for club members to enjoy an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition by an IMA Docent, giving us an exclusive tour with insights that not everyone will have the opportunity to experience. Spaces are limited for the guided tour, so register early for best chances of securing your spot. Self-guided tours of the exhibit is also optional, so feel free to wander the museum and grounds, then grab a bit to eat on or off grounds on your own or with new and old Miata friends. We ll then gather again at the Clarion Inn at I-465 and Continued on page 2

The fun continues on Sunday morning back at the Clarion Inn at 9:00 A.M. where Gary & Kathy Collings will lead another driving tour - this time something a bit unexpected of downtown Indianapolis. Be sure to bring along your FRS radios. The Collings will be highlighting some of the points of interests for everyone, especially our out-of-town guests. The tour will make a stop for lunch on Main Street in Speedway at Dawson s Restaurant before heading across 16th Street and into the hallowed grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and tours of the facility, track and IMS Museum at your leisure. The Dream Cars Weekend is shaping up to be an outstanding weekend of automotive indulgences that will appeal to just about anyone with a love of cars. Be sure to visit the club s website for all the details, including times, addresses and costs for admission and meals. And register early for your best chance to secure a spot for the docent-led tour of the Dream Cars Exhibition. We ll cap the month off with our annual Night before the Brickyard 400 Mingle on July 25th. As of this date, we are still seeking a brave soul(s) to host the event at your choice of venues. By now, you know the drill it s easy to do; just pick a gathering l ocation, maybe with sort of attraction (like ice cream!), let Ken Koehler (vicepresident@indymiata.org) know where to show up and at what time, be there with your Miata, perhaps with a few spare Miata parts and accessories you want to unload in the trunk, and, miraculously, several others with Miatas will show up, too! Then, simply enjoy the company of your Miata Friends (with ice cream!) while you re checking out each other s cars, and maybe do a little parts and accessory swapping, too. So, come on, step up and raise your hand, volunteer to host this event. Your Miata Club needs you! The Open Road is published monthly for the members of the Indy Miata Club. 4 July 2015 Page 4 Open Road A Brown County Rally report Tristan & Alexis led us on some of the best state roads that Brown and Jackson counties have to offer. Or maybe not! These comments were made several times, Did you see that side road? It had new pavement! We gotta try that next time. So who is going to organize the next rally down there? The weather wasn t sunny, but we didn t get wet. And it was reasonably cool, but not too cool. Just right, you might say. In addition to the Liechtys leading us, we had 3 other new-to-the-club couples too. They were pretty quiet though. I wonder how much they liked the day? Well, we know that Geoffrey & Isida like driving. They ve been to the last couple of club gatherings! We sure hope that the Freijes and Wilsons enjoyed themselves, and will be back for some more. We should point out that the day was one of our longer drives. We started about mid-morning, stopped for lunch but returned to the road in the afternoon. Several of us passed on the afternoon so we can t report on that part. However, if it was anything like the morning, we re sorry we missed it. Thanks a bunch, Liechtys! Marietta Madness weekend.
