2 Egie 3 horsepower icrease The 2006 model rus with the same 998 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 4-cylider 5-valve layout featurig a 77 x 53.6 mm bore ad stroke ad 12.4:1 compressio ratio. 3 Chassis The R1 s Deltabox V chassis has bee developed with the beefit of ogoig structural aalysis ad repeated testig, all the time usig iput from our highly successful MotoGP race programme. For 2006 the R1 s class-leadig alumiium Deltabox V frame remais exterally similar to the existig model, but beeath the ski some subtle yet sigificat chages have take place. Revised lateral ad torsioal rigidity balace The frot sectio of the mai frame cosists of a umber of layers of cast ad sheet alumiium that create a strog ad lightweight structure. By alterig the thickess of the costituet parts of this structure, the rigidity balace of the 06 Deltabox V frame has bee revised at the sectio of the mai frame aroud the forward egie mouts. The thickess of the cast alumiium outer layer o the latest frame has bee reduced by 1 mm to 3.5 mm at the thiest poit. This gives a small reductio i rigidity i the sectio of the mai frame betwee the forward egie mouts ad the steerig head. I this way the ew frame offers the same high levels of stability ad lateral rigidity as the 2005 model, together with eve lighter ad more resposive hadlig i turs. These chages have bee itroduced as a direct result of may thousads of hours of itesive track ad road testig, ad riders of the 2006 model are sure to feel the improvemet i rider feedback ad hadlig qualities geerated by the revised chassis desig. Modified egie ad swigarm mouts; modified fork compoets The R1 s rigidity balace has also bee altered by modifyig the egie mouts ad swigarm brackets. The frot fork lower triple clamp is ow straight compared with the offset desig o the curret model ad the rigidity balace of the ew gold-coloured frot fork outer tubes has also bee revised. Idividually, these chages would appear to be relatively mior, but the combied effect of them is to deliver a idealised balace of rigidity, or balaced flex, which makes for higher quality hadlig characteristics durig corerig, acceleratio ad deceleratio. New loger swigarm The origial YZF-R1 pioeered the use of a log swigarm with its pivot axle positioed close to the bike s mid-way poit, ad the 2006 model takes this cocept oe step further. While the overall structure of the latest swigarm is similar to the curret model, its overall legth is icreased by 20 mm, a chage which offers two mai advatages. Firstly, the disruptive effect o hadlig caused by chai tesio durig corerig is reduced, ad secodly, the exteded swigarm gives a good rigidity balace ad cotributes to the R1 s high levels of tractio.
