1 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COMPLETED PROJECTS IN Improved Eergy Cetral Pulp Efficiecy Through & Paper Utilizatio Of Ligi Based Istitute Waste Biomass (CPPRI), from Agro-Residue Saharapur Paper Mills Achievemet : Ligi removal plat was ru uder optimized process coditios to produce required quality of ligi based biomass from black liquor at mill site (M/s Madhya Bharat Paper Mill Ltd.). Pilot scale coversio of ligi biomass to ligi product / sodium based ligosulphoate was doe at Value Additio Pvt. Ltd, Ghaziabad usig the suitably modified pilot facility. Ligi free black liquor obtaied after LRP was evaluated for aaerobic treatmet with bio-eergy geeratio potetial. Biogas geeratio potetial will be to the tue of 230 GJ/day from a cluster of agro based paper mills with 100 t/day black liquor solid geeratio. Eergy savig i treatmet of ligi free black liquor will be approximately KW/day from 30 toes ligi. Ligosulphoate was used to replace the pheol i PF Resi partially (upto 25%) i makig Pheol Ligi Formaldehyde resi (PLF Resi), which was mixed with cocout shell flour to get adhesive. These adhesive were used for makig Boilig Water Proof (BWP) grade plywood coformig to relevat BIS specificatio. Ligosulphoate was also used as water reducig aget ad as super plasticizer i cocrete idustry. Improvemet i compressive stregth obtaied for 10% water reductio for 7 ad 28 days after applicatio of ligosulphoate at a dose of 0.2 % as water reducig aget. I rubber idustry, ligosulphoate is used as replacemet of carbo black filler i Styree Butadiee Rubber (SBR). The steam requiremet i curig of rubber will be reduced by 35% for the rubber idustry.

2 Promotio of Eergy Efficiet Improved Biomass Cook Stoves i rural areas of Sikkim College of Agricultural Egieerig ad Post Harvest Techology (CAEPHT), Gagtok, Sikkim Achievemet : Desig of MPUAT s Udairaj model modified to make it suitable for usage with small utesils ad other requiremets i rural households of Sikkim. Oe traiig program coducted i CAEPHT campus & six types of traiig programs coducted i 29 villages of Sikkim. Leaflets & booklets (i Eglish, Hidi & Nepali) published. Oe day workshop orgaized o os. modified cook stoves o sharig basis & 51 os. demo cook stoves istalled i selected rural household. Performace evaluatio of istalled cook stoves with smoke emissio aalysis, evaluatio of thermal efficiecy, proximate ad calorific value of local available biomass etc. carried out. Average thermal efficiecy of improved biomass cook stove was 28.65% (highest recorded 30.86%) compared to average 9.71% for traditioal biomass cook stove. Fuel wood burig rate is about 1 kg/hr (compared to LPG burig rate of kg/hr) thus less costly tha LPG fuel cosumptio cost. Average power output 1.33 KW. Average CO2 emissio was 539 ppm (compared to 1704 ppm for traditioal biomass cook stove) ad CO emissio was 5 ppm (compared to 83 ppm for traditioal biomass cook stove). Wood cosumptio is 2.67 kg per cook stove per day thus more tha 70% savig i fuel wood % savig i cookig time compared to traditioal stove. Biomass wood Guae Chaamp (Michelia) with calorific value Kcal/Kg is idetified as the best fuel wood..

3 Eergy Savig Through Reducig Kil Car Mass Usig Ultralite Refractory Material Cetral Glass & Ceramic Istitute (CGCRI), Khurja Achievemet Achievemet : Five uits selected : M/s Premier Ceramics Idustries, M/s Bihar Ceramics, M/s Pata ceramics, M/s Rahul Ceramics & M/s Chhtwal Ceramics all i Khurja cluster. CGCRI itroduced ultralite refractory material (imported) for the first time i Khurja cluster. Kil cars (10 kil cars i 2 Tuel Kil uits ad 6 kil cars i 3 shuttle kil uits, i.e., total 16 kil cars / trolleys) modified by dismatlig of car base, fillig up ultralite refractory material, recostructio of car base etc. Due to low thermal mass, low permeability, low thermal coductivity, high porosity lightweight etc. less heat is absorbed by the kil car base usig ultralite, thus savig fuel ad eergy. Material does ot cotai ay ceramic fibre or free silica, thus do ot have health hazard for ceramic fibre or free silica. 5 to 18% fuel saved i differet uits. As i shuttle kils all the trolleys were modified, so, higher fuel savig achieved. I Bihar Ceramics, fuel cosumptio per cycle / firig reduced from 1126 liters to 921 liters. I Tuel Kil uits out of aroud 30 trolleys, oly 5 trolleys were modified ad about 5% fuel savig achieved.

4 Estimatio of emissios & fuel cosumptio of iuse vehicles i differet drivig coditios Trasport ad Ijury Prevetio Program (TRIPP), Idia Istitute of Techology (IIT), Delhi Achievemet : DCR for stage I at Delhi was already approved i 72d SCM o Achievemet i stage II at Ludhiaa (DCR approved i 80 th SCM o ) : I stage II, the methodology established i stage I was repeated for four corridors of Ludhiaa City with three models (car, 2 wheeler ad 3 wheeler) ad developed drivig cycles were compared mode wise ad route wise ad also compared with developed Delhi Drivig Cycles mode wise for all the three modes to uderstad how drivig cycles vary from traffic maagemet to traffic maagemet. The percetage acceleratio ad percetage deceleratio were high for Ludhiaa drivig cycle compared to percetage acceleratio ad deceleratio for other drivig cycles. However the percetage of cruise is much less tha Delhi ad other DCs. The percetage of cruise observed i Ludhiaa is 25 times less tha Pue DC. I urba situatios it is ormal to expect low cruise percetage as compared to highways due to higher cogestio ad high frequecy of itersectios ad juctios. This establishes the eed to ivestigate the drivig patters i small to medium sized cities of Idia i more detail.

5 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COMPLETED PROJECTS IN Project Desig ad Developmet of Eergy Efficiet Oil Expeller Suitable for Jatropha Seeds CSIR - Cetral Mechaical Egieerig Istitute (CMERI) - CoEFM, Ludhiaa Achievemet: The optimum coditio for eergy cosumptio durig oil expellig from cold Jatropha seed appears at the moisture cotet of 22% ad from steamed hot Jatropha seed appears at the moisture cotet of 10% with steamig of seed for a period of 10 miutes. The optimum coditio for the oil recovery durig oil expellig from cold Jatropha seed appears at the seed moisture level of 20 % to 22% ad from steamed hot Jatropha seed appears at the seed moisture level of 10%. with steamig of seed for a period of 10 miutes. The optimum coditio for the cake throughput quatity durig oil expellig from cold Jatropha seed appears at the seed moisture 20% to 22%. Whe moisture cotet i steamed hot Jatropha seed remais 8% to 9%, the cake throughput was observed 90% to 95% while moisture cotet i steamed hot Jatropha seed at the level of 10% to 12%, the cake throughput was observed 100%. The eergy efficiet 1 TPD Jatropha oil expeller was desiged with (i) direct couplig eergy efficiet drive, (ii) use of lighter but strog materials ad possible heat treatmet to derive the power weight ratio alog with high compressio worms for maximum oil recovery ad loger life of critical compoets. Eergy savig i 8 hours operatio is about 12 KWh compared to covetioal expeller of 1 TPD capacity.
