3 NCSWANA and the Division of Environmental Assistance and Outreach is Sponsoring Solid Waste Convenience Center Workshop Statesville, NC 9:00 am to 3:30 pm (lunch provided) Many counties (and perhaps even some towns) utilize solid waste convenience centers (which accept garbage and possibly also recyclables) as a primary or secondary waste management method for their community. Some are incorporated into an overall countywide franchise arrangement. Some are provided along with laze faire private waste subscription services. Some are the primary method waste disposal for their community, especially in rural areas of counties. Some are operated by local government staff and some by contract. Almost no two situations are the same. These convenience centers also vary in their design, size, buffering, type of containers used, hours of operation, staffing, source of funding and whether money is handled on site, whether and to what extent recycling is provided, storm water controls, security, residency verification, scavenging allowed, etc. The purpose of these workshops is to examine the assortment of operations, policies and designs across the state, to present some best management practices identified in the region, and to share problems, challenges and solutions among the attendees. 6 Driving Directions to: Continuing Education Center 701 West Front Street Statesville, NC Parking tips: Turn in on Oak Street and enter the fenced in area. The Auditorium is on the main floor mid-way down the hall. Parking is at the sides and rear of the building. Please do not park in Faculty/Staff marked spaces. You may also park on the west side of the Continuing Education building by driving around to the back of the building and around to the other side. There are many more spaces there and you can enter the building from that side as well. From I-77 South (Union Grove/Elkin): Take Exit 50; turn right on East Broad Street and go to the end of Broad street. Turn left onto Mulberry Street. Turn right at the next stop light onto West Front Street and proceed approximately.6 miles; Center located on left. Turn left onto Oak Street and enter the parking area. From I-40 West (Mocksville/Winston-Salem): Take Exit 150; turn left on Hwy. 115 South/ North Center Street and go approximate 1 mile until reaching Broad Street; turn right onto Broad Street and proceed for approximately ½ mile. At the end of Broad Street, turn left onto Mulberry Street. Turn right at the next stop light onto West Front Street and proceed approximately.6 miles; Center located on left. Turn right onto Oak Street and enter the parking area. From I-77 North (Mooresville/Charlotte): Take Exit 49B; turn right on Salisbury Road and go approximately 1.2 miles until reaching 2 nd stoplight; turn left on East Front Street and proceed approximately 1 mile; Center located on left. Turn left onto Oak Street and enter the parking area. From I-40 East (Conover/Hickory): Take Exit 148: turn right at stoplight onto Hwy East; turn left at next stoplight onto West Front Street. Travel approximately 2.3 miles. Center is located on right. Turn right onto Oak Street and enter the parking area. From Highway 70 West (Salisbury/Kannapolis): Continue into Statesville; approximately 1 mile past J.C. Penney Distribution Center, turn right a stoplight onto Salisbury Road; travel approximately 1 mile; Center is located on left.
