1 PRIMADET non-electric delay detonators MS Primadet - millisecond series function MS Primadet series detonators are used as downlines in opencast mining and quarry operations where point initiation is desired down the hole. The unit consists of a precise detonator assembled on a sealed length of shock tube with a J-hook at the other end. description The MS Primadet non-electric delay detonators, whose lengths and delay times are suited for use in surface blasting, are factory-assembled units with the following main components: Shock tube to transmit a signal to the delay cap. The shock tube is a 3mm diameter plastic laminated tube coated inside with a thin layer of HMX / Aluminium dust, which reliably transmits a low energy signal at approximately 2000m/s from one point to another. Due to the shock tube construction and inner Surlyn tube, the low energy signal will propagate through most sharp bends, knots and kinks that may occur in the shock tube. The outer surface of the tube remains intact during and after functioning. The distinguishable tough, orange outer jacket gives excellent abrasive, oil resistant and tensile properties. A precise in-hole detonator containing integral delay elements, anti-static protection and other patented safety devices. This detonator will initiate all compatible cast boosters and cap sensitive explosives. A colour-coded J hook is an inert fitting at the initiation end of the MS Primadet, for quick and reliable connection to Primacord detonating cord. Tape used to bind each unit in a coil, facilitating easy deployment and a reduced chance of tangling. A colour delay tag to indicate the nominal delay time of the detonators.

The suppliers of these products should be consulted for compatibility. If cartridged explosives are being used as a primer, a hole of the correct length must be punched into the primer using a non-ferrous primer punch. Once the hole has been made, the MS Primadet in-hole detonator can be inserted into the cartridge. The shock tube lead can then be half-hitched around the cartridge, for extra security with regard to detonator pull-out. The primer is then inserted into the charge hole according to the mine standard. 3

4 Booster assemblies are typically connected as follows: If ANFO, cartridges or pumpable emulsion explosives are used, the MS Primadet in-hole detonators must be inserted as far as practically possible (bottom third of hole), according to the mine standard. important instructions Please note the following: All detonators (surface and in-hole) are subject to detonation caused by abuse such as impact, tampering and general misuse. Never attempt to disassemble any detonators due to the above reasons. The shock tube should not be cut or damaged as moisture or dirt entering the tube could cause misfires. Holes loaded with this product and awaiting firing should be guarded or barricaded to prevent unauthorised entry, as per mine standard. Never attach the starter initiator to the blast until the blast is completely hooked up and the blasting area cleared. Always store detonators and explosives separately. Keep accessories away from sparks, flames or any other sources of ignition. Excessive temperatures may result in spontaneous ignition of explosives and accessories. Store explosives and accessories according to the country rules & regulations. Ensure that all the MS Primadet downlines and outgoing trunkline leads are securely clipped to avoid misfires. Never use damaged MS Primadet units as this may result in misfires. After all the holes have been connected, do a thorough inspection of all the hook-ups, for proper connection. Shock tube will only be reliably initiated by detonating cords with core loads of 3.5g/m or higher ie. Detacord, E-Cord, SB Cord TM and Zapcord. Never trim ultrasonic seals from the shock tube, since the entrance of moisture and/or dirt into the tube may cause misfires. Primacord detonating cord to shock tube connections should always be made at right-angles. Grip the sealed end of the MS Primadet TM lead and push the J-hook towards the collar of the borehole. Do not allow slack in the shock tube going from the J-hook to the collar of the borehole. Always place detonating cord trunkline hook-ups in closed loops and use with cross-ties (boxed-in). Two paths of initiation will then be available for each shock tube connection. Never drive any vehicles over shocktube, as it may rupture or damage the tube, may cause misfires. packaging information Additional product lengths and packaging densities are available on request.
