In case of bundled IFC: remove X = 95 cm of outer jacket. The recommended length of secondary fiber L = cm. For termination on the shelf see (in case op preconnectorized IFC) Note: IFC is fixed the same way as loose tube cable. For splicing, act the same way as for loose tube (3.5). 4
Cable coming from left Apply 1 layer of foam around the flex tube at 32 and 35.5 cm from the end. Fasten the flex tube with small tie-wraps at 3 places: 2 foamed spots at square holes and third one in 2 bigger holes after bend control Assure that tie-wraps are well tensioned to avoid slippage of the tube and cut the excess length of the tie-wraps. Knobs of the tie-wraps must be positioned at the side of the flex tube. Cable coming from right Remove the cable jacket over approximately 2.70 m. In order to avoid fiber breakage wait to strip the loose tube. Cut strength member to length (max 6 cm) Assemble the components onto the termination plate. Mount the termination plate onto the shelf as indicated: distance between right side of plate and right side of shelf must be 8 cm for a 19 shelf and 10.5 cm for an ETSI shelf. Make sure to use the spacers between the metal plate and the roof. 5
3.3 Mounting of the shelf in the rack Guide the loose tubes into the flex tube. This can be facilitated by keeping the end of the loose tubes together with a piece of tape. Make a loop with the flex tube behind the shelf and fix the flex tube in the clip of the termination plate Fix the strength member in the connector. Avoid unnecessary crossing of strength member and loose tubes. Attach the cable with the releasable tie wraps on the outer jacket. Mount the cover on the flex tube holder. For further termination in shelf see: Install the mounting brackets at the correct position In case of bundled IFC: remove X = 95 cm of outer jacket. The recommended length of secondary fiber L = cm. For further termination see (in case op preconnectorized IFC). For splicing, act same way as for loose tube (3.5). 6
Different mounting positions: 1. Back mounting 2. FIST-GR mounting (13.5 mm from back) 3. FRONT mounting (165 mm from back) Mount the shelf using the FACC-ALLEN-key. Note: For easy entry and exit of cables and pigtails via the horns a 100 mm free space is recommended. For back-termination a 40 mm free space is recommended. For side-termination a 160 mm free space is recommended Determine the position of the shelf (see rack installation instruction). Fix the cage nuts into the rack mounting uprights (use FACC-CAGE-NUT- TOOL) In case of single pigtail and non-bundled IFC a horn is needed at the side where the pigtails are entering the shelf. 7
3.3.5 If needed the horn can be easily removed and separated A second horn is required at the front side where the jumpers leave the shelf. Install the horn by positioning it centrally in the opening at the side of the shelf or in the holder at the front side. Align the small knobs with the slots in the side, pull back the 2 locking pins of the horn and turn until the locking pins click into both positioning holes. Note: Horn can be locked as shown by turning the locking pins 1 position further If needed remove the cover by bending it carefully To make installation of cable (LT or IFC) easy, remove all trays Pull the drawer to the fully open position and rotate the 2 security-lips 180 to prevent the drawer from moving back inside the unit. 8
3.4 Installation of single pigtail 3.5 Termination and splicing of loose tube on tray Identify the loose tubes according to local practice Install bottom tray and route appropriate loose tube/fopt around the metal tower to the tray. Note: When loose tube is kink-sensitive use FOPT to go to tray!! Feed the pigtails thru the horn at the side and guide them via the bend controls to the adaptors in the patch frame Mark loose tube at 1.5 cm from edge of tray When all pigtails are connected bundle them (behind the bend controls) with a piece of Velcro Strip loose tube at marking point. Clean fibers as standard practice. Add foam and fix with tie-wraps as shown. Cut tie-wraps and make sure tie-wrap knob is at the side of the tray. 9
Note: For easy handling all tubes/fopt must be routed around the metal tray tower before installation of pigtails to the connectors Bring the pigtails (already connected to an adaptor in the patch panel) to be spliced via the bend controls on to the tray. Bundle all pigtails from 1 tray with a piece of spiral tube and apply one layer of foam. Fix this bundle in the same way as the loose tubes with 2 small tie wraps. Identify pigtails (ID cards). Strip PT with 900 micron to 250 micron when entering the tray Start splicing, store splice protectors and overlength.the tray has 6 locations to store splice protectors. Each location can hold maximum 4 fusion splice protectors of type smouv (L = 45 mm, installed outer diameter is 2.4 mm) or equivalent. After each splice is made, the splice should be stored as indicated on the drawing. First protector in position 1, the second in position 2. Continue for other fibers. Fiber 5 will be in position 1 of next location. We recommend to use only 250 µ on the trays. If this is not possible, 60 mm long SMOUVs might be required. These require careful positioning. 10
3.5.6 Close the tray with the tray lid Install 2nd tray and continue as from Repeat for all the trays and secure them with Velcro. For closing see Installation of not bundled IFC (overlength storage on tray) Route all connecterised 900-micron fibers around the metal tray tower and install first tray. Bundle the required nr of fibers with a spiral tube and apply one layer of foam. Fix this bundle at the entrance of the tray with 2 small tie wraps. Install a second spiral tube with foam over the fibers (this one will be fixed at exit side). Make loop(s) in tray and leave with preconnecterised fibers at exit side, guide fibers between bend controls to the respectively adapter in the patch panel. Make connection and pull back the overlength, organise overlength in a proper way and fix second foamed spiral tube with 2 small tie wraps. Close tray with lid. Note: Divide all 900 micron fibers equally over all trays Feed the IFC (not bundled) thru the horn and route each cable the same way as with a flex tube Repeat for all other trays and secure them with the Velcro Identify cables and fibers (ID cards) Bundle all cables with foam and fix same way as flex-tube (see 3.2.5). 11
3.7 Patching Route the jumper trough the horn and connect with the appropriate adapter. Respect proper overlength storage of jumper in side duct of rack. 3.8 Closing the shelf Rotate the 2 security-lips to the original position and close the drawer. Do not forget identification cards!
