2 Page 2 of 10 1 General An inherent characteristic of vibrating conveyors with twin motor vibrator is that after shutdown they pass through the resonant operating speed (i.e. the natural frequency of vibration of the oscillatory system formed by the mass of the machine and the spring rate of the supporting springs), thereby producing high vibration amplitudes that are often felt to be inconvenient. Excessive loads on foundations, supporting structures, sleeves and the machine itself may result. This can be remedied by the electronic brake unit. 2 Principle of work These electronic brake units have a rugged current-converter controlled by a digital electronic. They produce a powerful brake torque. The braking effect is achieved by applying an adjustable direct current to the stator coil of the asynchronous motor. A static magnetic field brakes the rotor. The following picture shows the relationship between the braking torque and motorspeed.
3 Page 3 of 10 3 Dimensions RVB 0 brake units are mounted in a compact protection box. They could be fastened to a profile according to DIN Technical data Device current: on-time: line voltage: Max. output voltage line 400 V: line 500 V: Brake time: Control voltage: Frequency of braking: 30 A eff 20 %, based on 1 min V or 500 V, 50/60 Hz, (over 500 V on request) 160 V DC, infinitely adjustable 190 V DC, infinitely adjustable 12 s max., infinitely adjustable optional 1/min maximum Environment: - 10 C to + 45 C Fastening: according to DIN External fuse: External brake switch: Output 3,4: max. 16 A according to main switch 250 V, 5 A
4 Page 4 of 10 5 Explosion protection IMPORTANT!! Together with RVB 0 brake units VIBRA type DV vibrating motors can also be used in areas subject to explosions hazard. PTB certification has been granted. The requirements of the test certificate must be met when adjusting the brake unit. When this is done the brake unit must be operated without standstill sensor (terminal n 1 open). The brake current has to be less than the starting current (max. 30 A). The brake time has to be adjusted by the potentiometer. The necessary brake time has to be measured during the installation and has to be readjusted, if necessary. 6 Installation instructions 6.1 Notes for the installation Attention avoid long leads (max. 75 m) use resistance-meters instead of testing-lamp or bell 6.2 Currentfree operation Remove motor-fuses. Adjust time potentiometer "Zeit" at its maximum (clock-wise) and current-potentiometer "Strom" at its minimum (counterclw.) motor switch K1 on off brake switch K2 off K1 locked locking check K2 manually on: K1 manually on: K1 drops off K2 drops off 6.3 Brake unit adjustment Measure the brake-current. Attach a moving iron instrument at terminal b (a shunt extends the range). Install motor-fuses and adjust time-potentiometer at 1/4. After motor is warm activate the brake and turn the current-potentiometer "Strom" slowly clockwise; observe the amount of current at the ampere-meter. The maximum value for brake current is 3 times of the nominal motorcurrent. 7 Stoppage detector (Option) Only when operated without explosion protection An integrated stoppage detector is adapting the brake-time in dependence of the complete drive system. There is no need of a manual regulation. For this feature, a measuring line-wire has to be connected with n1, the brake switch and the motor (free winding end) (see the following circuits)
