2 A WORD ON SAFETY FROM GRAHAM MUNSELL Oregon District News for Educators Great news, there will be a trike class held in Sublimity/ Stayton on June 4. Last day for registration is May 19. The cost will be $30. Dawna and Bob Hitch will be presenting the class. The students will be accepted on first come first enrolled as the payment is made. Please contact the Hitches at Complete the GWRRA form RE-3 form on the website and mail with a check made out to GWRRA Region I, to Dawna at nd St., Silverton, OR Please look at your training records for your chapter members on the database as likely there are several likely due for an update to keep their levels rating current. Encourage them to stay current or get involved in the Levels program. Some interesting news from the legislature via the Governor s Committee on Motorcycle Safety. A bill / amendment has been introduced to create a new class within the motor vehicle codes, autocycle. The vehicle is not straddled as the operator sits in a seat. Also, there is a steering wheel instead of handlebars. It appears this is a move to avoid complying with the automobile safety codes currently in place for manufactures. This will also not require the operator to obtain a motorcycle or trike endorsement. The bill has passed to the house for further action. Interesting experience this spring when starting the extra motorcycle. Seems I did not properly condition the fuel and things are gummed up. Moving ahead be sure you complete a thorough evaluation of your ride when you pull it out of storage and prepare the riding season. Recently while participating in an organized ride many observations of a wide variety of riders there was much evidence that a lot of our riders could use a refresher course to better prepare themselves of the challenges of the road. We all can get rusty after taking the winter off. Be prepared for the challenges of the road in 2017! Graham Munsell, Oregon District Educator, Region I, GWRRA

6 Chapter Directors Corner This month we will be having the very first Combined Breakfast Gathering of Chapters in Oregon. This is a new experience for us all, and I am very excited to do this with Chapter G. This month s Corner article is being written by your co-director, my wonderful partner in this thing we call life. Dear members and staff of GWRRA Chapter OR - I, While I was attending the District Planning Meeting a couple of weeks ago, the chapters (I-G- H) were each asked to supply a basket for raffle at the District Rally as a fundraiser activity. The venue is a Western theme and I thought a "Family Fun Night" for the basket would be just that, fun. So I moved right along with the project. I was so excited to do the project and announced it at our Breakfast Gathering. I didn't consider anyone else might be just as excited as I was or have other ideas just as good as mine. I also realized that my announcement wasn't going to reach ALL chapter members and staff. So I apologize for not sending out something prior to my taking action and if I caused anyone upset. There is a picture attached of the basket and personal purchases I have made as well as a couple of donated items. There have been no expenses incurred by the chapter thus far. If you would like to take over the project, help with the project or donate to the project, please let me know. This needs to be done by June 16th, the Friday before District Rally. Thank you! Cindy Neuburger Co-Director Chapter OR - I Till next month! Ride safe and keep the rubberside down! Alan & Cindy
