4 The Association of Global Automakers represents the U.S. operations of international motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment suppliers, and other automotive-related trade associations. Our global perspective leads us to approach issues collaboratively by working with industry leaders, legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders to create public policy that improves vehicle safety, encourages technological innovation, and addresses environmental needs. Our goal is to foster an open and competitive automotive marketplace that encourages investment, job growth, and development of more vehicles that enhance Americans quality of life. The Association has served as the voice of international automobile manufacturers in the United States since Global Automakers 1050 K Street, NW, Suite 650 Washington, D.C T Established in 1970, the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) is the only national trade association whose sole purpose is to represent America s 9,600 international nameplate new automobile dealership franchises. The Association serves as an advocate for the industry before Congress, the White House, and federal agencies. AIADA is the international nameplate dealers first line of defense in Washington, D.C., and its members are part of an active dealer community with a powerful voice. We focus our lobbying efforts on issues impacting America s international nameplate automobile dealers, including: trade and anti-competitive restrictions; regulatory overreach; tax measures; energy and fuel economy policies; and other industry-related issues. 5 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY International auto manufacturers are driving the U.S auto industry by conducting research and development, investing in plants and equipment, and building cars and light trucks in America. Together, international automakers and international nameplate dealers are employing Americans in ever-increasing numbers. HIGHLIGHTS: l International nameplate dealers are responsible for 57 percent of retail vehicle sales in the U.S. l Almost half of the cars and light trucks produced in the U.S. roll off assembly lines at plants operated by international automakers, whose annual production has increased 84 percent in the past 15 years. l More than half of all U.S. new vehicle dealerships jobs are created by international nameplate dealers. l International automakers have invested more than $82 billion into U.S. operations, with manufacturing plants in 14 states and R&D facilities in 17 states. l The economic activity of international automakers and dealers in America generated $29.5 billion in state and local tax receipts and other revenues, and $39.3 billion in federal tax receipts and other revenues for the federal government in As you ll see in this publication, the resurgence of the auto industry in the U.S. is proof of the benefits of an open economy that welcomes investment, competition, and innovation. 3

Active Pedestrian Protection 86% of U.S. production Blindspot Alert 62% of U.S. production Lane Keep Assist 66% of U.S. production Collision Warning 66% of U.S. production Total Collision Mitigation 76% of U.S. production Source: WardsAuto Infobank. Tabulation is based on U.S., Canada, and Mexico production for the U.S. market in MY2017. Includes estimated data. CONNECTED AUTOMATION International automakers are leaders in the development and deployment of connected autonomous vehicle technologies, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says could be a game changer, potentially addressing 80 percent of vehicle crashes involving non-impaired drivers. l SAVING LIVES: V2V and V2I could address 4.5 million of crashes that occur each year, saving lives and reducing injuries. l SAVING TIME: 4.2 billion hours currently wasted in traffic congestion annually could be reduced, saving consumers and businesses both time and money. l SAVING FUEL: 2.8 billion gallons of fuel are burned in traffic jams each year. Improved traffic flow and fewer crashes means less congestion, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. 22 Source: U.S. Department of Transportation Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office
