3 The development of a widespread charging infrastructure in conjunction with renewable energy is an important step toward a mobile future. Special charging plugs are used to establish an electrical connection between the electric vehicle and the infrastructure (e.g., a charging station). Internationally standardized charging interfaces ensure uniform connection for charging stations and vehicles. The PLUSCON power product range from Phoenix Contact offers reliable standard-compliant solutions for a consistent charging interface for all applications. This includes AC charging cables and the corresponding type 2 and GB socket outlets. The compact design and ergonomic handle design of the charging plug enable convenient and optimal handling during the charging process. 5 Type 2 combined AC/DC charging system (Europe) DC charging process AC charging process DC charging AC charging The combined AC/DC vehicle inlet is compatible with the AC connector and the combined DC connector. DC AC The most important requirement for setting up a modern charging infrastructure is a reliable and uniform connection between electric vehicles and charging stations. The electrical energy must be supplied in the form of DC voltage or AC voltage for recharging the batteries. The type 2 combined AC/DC charging system from Phoenix Contact supports conductive charging of electric vehicles with both DC and AC. It was developed in conjunction with leading automobile manufacturers and represents the ideal charging interface for future electromobility due to its varied charging options. Only one vehicle inlet is required for each charging process in all applications thanks to the universal pin connector pattern. If AC is used for charging, the energy can be supplied directly from the existing lowvoltage network to the integrated AC/DC converter in the vehicle with the type 2 AC connector, see page 436. In the case of DC charging with the type 2 combined DC connector, the AC/DC converter is located within the charging station and reduces the load on the vehicle. Due to the high current carrying capacity, the battery is charged in a matter of minutes. Both AC and DC charging processes are supported by control and signal contacts. The handle's ergonomic design and the low insertion and withdrawal forces mean that the combined DC connector ensures fast, convenient, and easy handling. 434 PHOENIX CONTACT
