Throughput Redefines the gas station with automatic refueling 1
Background as pioneer with automatic refueling Our mission is to transfer any kind of fuel to the car In the fastest and most convenient way for the motorists 2
Throughput Redefines the charging of electric vehicles 3
Battery swap Why? Todays problem with electric vehicles Bigger batteries require longer charging stops* The car is blocked from use during charging A longer trip than a few hours require many stops for charging Electric cars are more expensive than fossil cars The fossil car as a competitor will refuel in 3 minutes which gives a range of 1000 km *everybody wants shorter stops for charging 4
Battery swap Why? The time to charge the batteries in an EV is in direct competition to the refuelling time for a diesel car, i.e. 3 minutes Assumption: Battery 30 kwh - approximately 200 km range How many amps are required to charge 3 cars simultaneously in 3 minutes in a traditional 400 VAC 3-phase system? 3 x 60 3 x 30 kw 400 x Ampere Note: Charging has to take place 3 times more often than with diesel 5
Battery swap Why? To reduce required time for charging is a long term project Battery swap means solving the problem with existing automation technology Required refueling (charging) time for EVs Solution with automation Now Future achievements 6
Automatic battery swap With automatic swap of batteries the stop time for recharging is 3 minutes, the same as for refuelling a diesel car 7
Alternative methods Efficient horizontal insert..or under the platform 8
Battery Automation is possible when using prismatic battery boxes 9
Realistic investment in existing infrastructure The Power Swap infrastructure can be established on existing locations (petrol stations, parking lots), not by building new expensive swap stations 10
Other battery swap solutions Complex indoor application Swap from beneath Large building and investment 11
Cost comparison - Total investment per site - Cost for the swap function Powerswap 1,3 MSEK 1,50 SEK /10 Km Better Place > 30 MSEK > 15,5 SEK /10 Km 12
EV advantages with Battery swap The EV can be refueled in same time (3 min) as for a fossil car The car is never blocked from useage for a charging stop Batteries will get harmoneous time for charging in the battery storage The grid stress will be less as batteries get longer time for charging EV s can be sold w/o the battery, i.e. the EV is cheaper than fossil cars Infrastructure can be build on existing petrol stations and P- lots at a much less cost than for charging stations 13
Our plan 1. Demo System in Stockholm based on Renault ZOE 2. Pilot project with 5 systems and 20 cars (Stockholm community/ Power Swap Demo 3. International car shows 4. OEM-solutions Fiat Qubo EV 14
Multi ADS Stations Step 2: stations may serve Powerswap EV s An attractive market for any EV manufacturer 15
