4 Project Selection 767 BCF modification project is to convert a B767 from a passenger variant to a full cargo variant. As a result, the existing floor structures of the aircraft must be replaced with more rigid floor structures to cater for the cargo load. The old floor grids have to be swapped with new floor grids. 4

17 Objectives To improve the safety of personnel transporting the floor grid into the aircraft. To reduce physical exertion of workers. To reduce the number of workers needed to transport the floor grid into the aircraft To improve the speed of transporting the floor grid in the aircraft to desired position 17

18 Proposed Solutions Trim an opening near Section 45 of the aircraft so that the floor grid can be hoisted straight into that section. Not Feasible: Due to OEM design of the aircraft / Not permitted to just make major changes to the aircraft design. Assemble the entire floor grid only on the aircraft Not Feasible: Due to a long duration taken and would take up a huge space in the hangar. Build a pulley to mechanically slide the floor grid along the cabin Not Feasible: Extensive design needed for pulley system and personnel must be well trained and maintenance for pulley is quite extensive. Build a purpose built trolley and system to slide the floor grid easily from the front to the rear of the aircraft Feasible: Easy to design and train personnel. Fastest method to transport floor grid. 18
