About This Document This document provides site planning information for customers purchasing a Vertex Plus, Vertex V60, Solus or Cardio camera (all with Semi-automatic Collimator Storage Units). The document provides information for facility engineers, structural engineers, site planners and architects. i

3 Section 1 Room Requirements General Information Vertex Plus, Vertex V60, Solus and Cardio cameras consist of a ring-shaped Gantry, a Semi-automatic Collimator Storage Unit, a two End Stands, an Atlas Electronics Rack, an Acquisition Terminal and a Processing Terminal (also called a Pegasys Ultra). At the beginning of an installation, ADAC installers will pour a thin (approximately 1/2") self-leveling epoxy pad and then mount two rails on the pad. Installers will then place the Gantry so it will translate along the rails. Installers will also place Head and Foot End Stands at the ends of the epoxy pad. Those End Stands will support a Patient Table which passes through the center ring of the Gantry. The installers will align the Patient Table to the center of the Gantry ring and anchor the End Stands. See illustration on page 1-3. The Gantry supports two gamma radiation sensitive Detectors from which the system collects images of patients who have been injected with small amounts gamma emitting radionuclides. For Emission Computed Tomography (ECT) studies, the two Detectors rotate around a patient lying on the Patient Table. For Total Body Studies, the two detectors remain above and below the Patient Table while the Gantry scans the length of the patient. Camera Models All Vertex-type cameras are similar in appearance and weight. The differences between the cameras are the following: Solus Cameras - the detectors are always 180 apart (detectors on opposite sides of the gantry s supporting ring). Cardio Cameras - the detectors are 90 apart during clinical operation. Vertex Plus and Vertex V60 Cameras - the detectors may be either 180 or 90 apart. Patient Table Customers may order either a normal or short Patient Table. However, if room size permits, Solus, Vertex Plus and Vertex V60 cameras usually come with a Normal table. Cardio cameras often come with a short table (11" shorter). 1-1

4 Section 1: Room Requirements As Section 2 will indicate, the length of the Patient Table determines the length of the epoxy pad. Site Planners must locate the pad so patients can access the Patient Table from the front of the epoxy pad when the Gantry is near the Head End Stand. Semi-automatic Collimator Storage Unit The Collimator Storage Unit may contain up to eight collimators (four pairs). Collimators are 21" x 26" (53cm x 66cm) sheets of lead of various thicknesses weighing between 110 and 295 lbs (50 and 134 kg). ADAC installers will position the Collimator Storage Unit on the epoxy pad at a specific location behind the Head End Stand. Prior to performing clinical studies, the operator must transfer Collimators from the Collimator Storage Unit to the Head End Stand and then to each of the Detectors on the Gantry. Atlas Electronics Rack A separate Atlas Electronics Rack controls the movements and the image acquisition functions of the Gantry. As Section 4 illustrates, cables run from the Atlas Electronics Rack to the Gantry, the Head End Stand, the Foot End Stand, the Acquisition Terminal and the Processing Terminal (Pegasys Ultra). All components of the camera except the Processing Terminal receive power from the Atlas Electronics Rack. Air Conditioning Requirements All Vertex-type camera have the following heat loads: Atlas, Gantry, End Stands and Acquisition Terminal: 6,000 BTU/hr 420 Cal/sec 1,800 watts Pegasys Ultra: 1,300 BTU/hr 90 Cal/sec 380 watts 6.0 KVA UPS (Solus option) 1,771 BTU/hr 124 Cal/sec 519 watts The camera room HVAC system must maintain the temperature between F (16-24 C) with less than 10 F (6 C) variation per hour. Humidity must be between 20% - 75%. These requirements are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. 1-2

6 Section 1: Room Requirements Room Size Requirements Room size requirements depend on whether the customer purchases a normal or short Patient Table. The short table is 11" shorter than the normal one. Depending on room size, site planners may place the Atlas Electronics Rack either: 1. behind the pad, or 2. at either end of the pad. These options affect room size as shown below. Section 2 illustrates these options. Normal Patient Table Location of Atlas Electronics Minimum Recommended Rack Width x Length Width x Length Option #1 12' x 15' 14' x 16' (behind pad) (365 x 457 cm) (427 x 488 cm) Option #2 11' x 17' 13' x 18' (end of pad) (335 x 518 cm) (396 x 549 cm) Short Patient Table Location of Atlas Electronics Minimum Recommended Rack Width x Length Width x Length Option #1 12' x 14' 14' x 15' (behind pad) (365 x 427 cm) (427 x 457 cm) Option #2 11' x 16' 13' x 17' (end of pad) (335 x 488 cm) (396 x 518 cm) For equipment access and space efficiency, Option 2 (Atlas Electronics Rack at one end of the pad) is slightly better. 1-4

15 Section 3 Anchor Details Anchor Plans - Non-seismic Areas In non-seismic areas, ADAC installers will use 1/2" concrete anchors to floor-mount the Collimator Storage Unit and End Stands, and use 1/4" concrete anchors for the rails. Anchor Plans - Seismic Areas In seismic areas, ADAC installers will use 1/2" concrete anchors to floor-mount the Collimator Storage Unit, End Stands and rails. Additionally, in seismic areas, installers will place a 5/8" spacer under each rail. The spacers elevate the rail so four Gantrymounted brackets on each corner of the Gantry will engage the rail and resist Gantry overturn moments. Anchor Specifications 5/8" Spacer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ADAC installers will use the following anchor for the Collimator Storage Unit, End Stands and, in seismic areas, the rails: Manufacturer Model Diameter ICBO # Embedment Ramset/Red Head Trubolt 1/2" " Pad Gantry-mounted Bracket Rail Anchor California OSHPD Information The California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) has pre-approved ADAC s Vertex-type camera anchorage. 16 Section 3: Anchor Details Anchor Hole Patterns After anchoring the rails and putting the Gantry on the rails, ADAC installers will (1) place the Head and Foot End Stands at the ends of the epoxy pad, (2) place the Patient Table on the End Stands, (3) align the Patient Table to the center of the Gantry ring, and (4) anchor the End Stands to the concrete floor. In the four diagrams that follow, some dimensions are given with a tolerance of ± 0.5". This is to allow for centering the Patient Table with respect to the Gantry. As shown in the following drawings, some anchor locations depends on whether the site must meet California seismic requirements and the length of the Patient Table. 24 Section 5: Shipping Information Small Door Oenings A Vertex-type gantry can go through doors smaller than 45.5" (116cm) but it requires a lot of effort. Below are the steps a field service engineer can do to get a Vertex-type gantry through three categories of smaller door openings. 45.5" 116cm 43.5" " ( cm) Door Top View Before installing the rear foot-side transport wheel, route the umbilical cable between that transport wheel and the foot side of the gantry. Raise the gantry 4" - 5" (10-13cm) above the floor. Remove the unbilical cable hub from the gantry and, without damaging the individual wires, pull about 6" (15cm) of wire from the gantry. Bend the wires down and temporarily place the hub under the gantry. While going through the door, on a one-wheel-at-a-time basis, remove a front and then a rear twheel. Be careful to balance the gantry while it is resting on three wheels " " ( cm) Door Prepare the gantry and umbilical cable as above. Remove the E-stop switches from both sides of the gantry by pulling on the retaining clip/wire on the inside of the ganty. (To avoid damage, remove the E-stop switches even if it appears unnecessary.) While going through the door, replace the front and then the rear transport wheels with a 4-wheel dolly. This requires extra field service help " " ( cm) Door Measure the opening very accurately. The opening must not be less than 41.75"! Remove the E-stop switches as above. Disconnect and remove the umbilical cord from the gantry. Disconnect the lower end of the ring cables and place them in the center of the gantry. Remove all gantry covers that cover (even partially) the sides of the gantry. Remove all screws that protrude from the gantry sides. While going through the door, replace the front and then the rear wheels with a 4-wheel dolly. Small Weight Capacity Elevators If an Elevator does not have the capacity to lift a Vertex gantry, three options exist: 1. Position the elevator car above the destination or below the entry floor. Use riggers to lift the gantry up the elevator shaft. Typically riggers do this by placing a beam and hoist one floor above the destination floor. 2. Have riggers place the gantry in the elevator car, and "assist" the elevator mechanism to lift the extra load. Again, riggers typically do this by placing a beam and hoist at least one floor above the destination floor. 3. Use riggers to pass the gantry through a wall or window. If using options 1 or 2, riggers need to check the weight capacity of the threshold in front of the elevator door. Sometimes riggers will have to place a steel plate over the threshold to dissipate the load. Reducing the weight of a gantry by removing a detector is time consuming and requires factory personnel to work on-site. Field service engineers must obtain approval for this procedure from the Field Service Installation Manager. 5-2

25 Section 6 Floor Loading General Floor Loading Information Unless the floor is a reinforced concrete slab poured on grade, a licensed structural engineer must evaluate floor loading capacity using the data in this section. Refer to Section 1 of this document for explanations of the Vertex-type Gantry, Patient Table and Semi-automatic Collimator Storage Unit functions. The numbers below summarize the floor loads that this section describes in detail. Load of ADAC Load of equipment on Gantry Collimator Pad (moving) Storage Wt Area Load Wt Area Load Wt Area Load Collimators lbs sq ft psf lbs sq ft psf lbs sq ft psf 2 VXGP only full set of 8 5, , , , , kg sq m kg/m 2 kg sq m kg/m 2 kg sq m kg/m 2 2 VXGP only full set of 8 2, , , ,274 2, , ,638 In the above summary, the Two VXGP only calculations assumes the customer only purchases two light-weight VXGP collimators. The full set of eight assumes the customer purchases pairs of VXGP collimators, and pairs of MEGP, HEGP and UHGP Collimators; further, this assumes the pair of light-weight collimators are on the Gantry, and the other three pairs are in the Collimator Storage Unit. The Load of ADAC equipment on Pad includes both the Gantry and Collimator Storage loads. This section presents floor loading calculations starting with the entire area of a typically sized room. The section then looks at the loads under specific parts of the camera (Pad, Gantry, Collimator Storage Unit and Table End Stands). The data in the rest of this section assumes a full set of eight collimators. The calculations in this appendix pertain to Vertex Plus, Vertex V60, Solus and Cardio cameras. 6-1

29 Sectin 6: Floor Loading Gantry Wheel Moving Point Loads The gantry rides on four wheels. The load on the front and rear wheels depends on the position of the detectors. The figures below describe the point loads at different detector positions. Load bearing points are two 3" diameter by 1.75" wide steel wheels in front, and two 3.75" diameter by 0.75" wide steel wheels in the rear. Wheels roll on a 1/4" thick by 3" wide steel rail. Four point loads are in rectangular 35" x 44" pattern that moves " along the length of the pad The two detectors rotate about a point in the center of the gantry ring. On Solus cameras, the two heads are always 180 apart. Center of Gantry Ring On Cardio and Vertex Plus cameras, the operator may put the two heads at either 180 or 90 apart. Front Rear Detectors 180 Apart While in the 90 position, the operator may rotate the detectors about the center of the gantry ring. These various positions (and the presence or absense of collimators) affect gantry wheel moving point loads. The worst case moving point loads are when both detectors are over either the front or rear wheels. Calculations of moving point loads over front and rear wheels appear on the next four pages. 35 Sectin 6: Floor Loading Semi-automatic Collimator Storage Unit Point Loads The Semi-Automatic Collimator Storage Unit sits on four 5/8" bolts welded to two 3 x 26 x 1/2" steel plates. 36 Section 6: Floor Loading End Stand Floor Loading To mount Collimators on the Detectors, the operator slides one Collimator at a time from the Storage Unit to Head End Stand, and then to the Detector. While the operator is making this transfer, patients cannot be on the table. Since Collimators are heavier than half a normal patient s weight, the worse case floor loading for the Head End Stand includes the weight of the heaviest Collimator. The Foot End Stand is not involved in Collimator transfers, but carries half the pateint's weight. Head End Stand (16 x 27) Foot End Stand (12 x 14) Head End Stand Weight without collimator = 461 Weight of one collimator (during collimator loading) = 295 (worst case) Total = 756 lbs Area head end stand base = 3 sq ft [(16 x 27) /144] Head End Stand Floor Load = 252 psf Foot End Stand Weight = 222 1/2 weight of patient = 150 (worst case) Total = 372 lbs Area foot end stand base = 1.17 sq ft [(12 x 14) /144] Foot End Stand Floor Load = 319 psf 6-12

37 Sectin 6: Floor Loading End Stand Moments Since the Head End Stand is out of balance during Collimator transfers and the Foot End Stand is out of balance when a patient is being imaged, the moments shown below apply. The above calculations do not include seismic loads. Seismic load calculations are the responsibility of the institution s structural engineer. Structural engineers may obtain an Earthquake Pre-approval Package from ADAC s Order Entry office (800/ x 3265). 6-13

38 Section 6: Floor Loading Maximum Floor Deflection ECT Studies. For ECT studies (where the detectors rotate around the patient and the Gantry is on the left half of the rails and does not move along the rails), the floor must not deflect more than the specfication shown below. The deflection shall be calculated from where one wheel rests on an ADAC rail to where another wheel rests on the same rail, while a load of 1,192 lbs moves between the front and rear rails. ECT Situation #1 Structural support ECT Situation #2 Gantry Adac rear rail Adac front rail Structural support In this situation, if the detectors are 90 apart, the left front wheel will deflect more than the right front wheel. This will create an out-of-plane situation and the detectors will rotate in a helical fashion. The maximum deflection must not exceed 0.080". Structural support ECT Situation #3 Gantry Structural support Adac rear rail Adac front rail In this situation, the maximum deflection may not exceed 0.150". The rails will stay parallel and both front wheels will deflect the same amount even if the detectors are 90 apart. The plane between the wheels will be maintained as the detectors rotate around the patient. Gantry Adac rear rail Adac front rail In this situation, if the detectors are 90 apart, the front and rear deflections will vary as the detectors rotate around the patient. The maximum deflection must not exceed 0.080". Total Body Studies. For Total Body studies (where detectors are above and below the body, and the Gantry translates along the rails), the deflection may not exceed 0.100" in 35" anywhere along either rail as the Gantry translates the length of the rails. 6-14
