2 Introduction: This packet was designed to help inform potential sponsorship applicants of the details involved in helping to fund this project. Within these pages you will find details of the future construction of Lansingburgh High School s Electrathon Vehicle titled Project LEV. Also included are the benefits that organizations will receive from sponsoring and the type of involvement that we are interested in from organizations such as yours. Where is Lansingburgh High School? Lansingburgh High School is located just 15 minutes east of Albany, New York. In the city of Troy. With approximately 800 students in grades 9-12, we offer one of the strongest technology and engineering education programs in the area. Classes such as design, drawing, electronics, and transportation are just a few of the examples of who will be participating in the design and construction of the Lansingburgh High Electrathon vehicle. With a strong emphasis on introducing engineering principles into our curriculum, we at Lansingburgh High are dedicated to supplying today s youth with the knowledge and skills they require to enter the work field or pursue further education.

3 What is Project LEV? LEV (Lansingburgh Electric Vehicle) was the name given by technology education students at Lansingburgh High School. This project involves the research, design, and construction of an all electric racecar, also known as an electrathon car. Much like solar racers in design and construction, this threewheeled vehicle is powered by up to three 12 volt batteries powering a 1.6hp electric motor. Currently, electrathon cars are being raced all across the country by high school and college students and other electric vehicle organizations. The goal of this vehicle is to travel the most distance in a given time on a limited source of electrical energy. Our goals for this project are to: -Increase students' and publics' awareness of alternative sources of energy. -Advance the implementation of electric vehicles into technology department curriculums across the country. -Combine hands on learning in the fields of electronics, design, and materials use, with real life applications. -Lay groundwork for the continued study of electric vehicles and alternative sources of energy into the Lansingburgh High School and New York State curriculums. Benefits of sponsoring Project LEV: By sponsoring this vehicle your organization is not only helping to advance the research of alternative energy sources, but also helping to advance the public s awareness of the uses of electrical energy. Whether it s a full or partial sponsorship, your organization will be recognized as one that is striving to help to

4 improve the community and the environment, all while donating to a tax exempt organization. Publicity is one of the many ways that we plan on repaying our sponsorships for the dedication they have given to this project. Not only will your organization be recognized on the actual vehicle but also included in any press relations or publicity that the project should receive. Ways that we plan to publicize the project include but are not limited to: -Working closely with local newspapers, technology periodicals, school and alumna publications, and local newspapers such as The Record and The Tmes Union to receive as much recognition as possible. -Racing, Racing, Racing.. Involvement in the NYS Electrathon Race. -Presenting at the 2010 NYS Annual Technology Education Associations Fall Conference, where thousands of teachers, students, and technology enthusiasts will get a chance to view the vehicle. -Internet involvement including links to our page from assorted Capital Area New York and national electronics related pages. -Local community involvement including: parades, festivals, etc

5 What is involved in sponsoring? We are currently looking for full or partial donations. Sponsorship includes: - Any amount of capital or material donated towards the building of LEV - Recognition given to the sponsoring organizations - Organization logo and name on both sides of vehicle along with other sponsors - Organization logo and name used on website, apparel, and flyers along with other sponsors - Use of organization s name with all press and publicity Should you choose to sponsor, your organization will be given full bimonthly updates on the progress of the project, including: pictures, designs plans, and a schedule of events.

6 Parts and Price List: After researching our possible options, the students have decided to work mainly with parts from a company called Blue Sky Design. 9 Part Specifications Body shell: This design combines sleek styling with a low 0.20Cd aerodynamic form. Molded of durable ABS plastic, the shell can be raced open cockpit Indy car style or enclosed with the canopy. Canopy: Fully enclosed one piece canopy for optimal aerodynamics and style. Smoke grey tinted optically blown acylic canopy fits the body shell or used with custom designs. Fiberglass seat/chassis pan: Closes out the the bottom of the body shell and form fits into the M1 chassis. Molded in seat and battery box. Battery box accepts 12 and 24 volt battery packs.

10 Chassis: A rigid frame designed for stability and handling performance. Perimeter design with rollbar. Steering Spindles: These steering spindles are designed for Electrathon vehicles and offer optimal ackerman angles and kingpin inclination for steering geometry and control. Adaptable to various brake systems. Spindles with 1/2 x 5" axles and M5B spindles with 12mm x 400mm axles. Sprocket Adaptors: Used by most Electrathon racing teams, this precision machined adaptor allows the use of all 110mm mountain bike bicycle chain rings as drive wheel sprockets. Gives you a full range of gear ratio tuning for optimizing track performance and freewheel coasting for even better efficiency. Also includes twin HiG Drive Guides to prevent chain delrailments on bumpy or tight tracks.

11 Skyway Wheel Set: This special Electrathon wheel is made with DuPont Zytel Nylon plastic to be lightweight, strong and maintenance free. The wheel uses 1.75 x 20 bicycle tires. Equipped with 1/2" i.d. precision bearings with a threaded hub to accept hub mounted Aria drum brakes or Pro Stop disc brakes among others. M7 Aria TD Drum Brake Set: This powerful heat-sinked system is durable and proven in Electrathon competition.
