The students will apply precision and nonprecision measuring skills and hydraulic principles that were introduced earlier in the program. The course is intended to assist students how to access technical information from various sources to enhance their abilities to correctly diagnose driveline related problems. Students will apply this information with the use of specialized service tools and equipment to effectively repair driveline components including manual and automatic transmissions/transaxles. Students must complete all assignments and lab exercises to keep up, and independent study is recommended. Course Learning Outcomes: On the successful completion of this course, the student will have reliably demonstrated an ability to: Practise safe shop/personal work practices as they relate to repairing or servicing the driveline in its entirety. Describe the fundamentals and operating principles of clutches, manual and automatic transmissions/transaxles and driveline components. Explain the basic function, composition and construction of the driveline components. Measure and calculate gear ratios, driveline operating angles. Measure hydraulic pressures, determine fluid condition and service interval requirements. Use shop tools as they apply to the servicing and repairing of the various driveline components. Dismantle, clean, inspect, test, repair and assemble the driveline components using the prescribed service tools and equipment according to the shop manual. Generic Skills: This course will build on the basic employment skills needed to prepare the students for entering today s work force.
