1 October January VOLUME 39 ECK SHEN CONSTRUCTION ESTABLISHES ITSELF AS A PLAYER IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY WITH PREMIUM CAT MACHINERY ECK preparing the ground for Project HTTC with its Cat 320D hydraulic excavator and Cat D6R track type tractor Starting off life as a sub-contractor in 1997, Eck Shen Construction & Trading Pte Ltd (ECK) is now an established contractor in its own right, specialising in earthworks, construction, paving, tunnelling, road and drainage construction applications. ECK has been a loyal customer of Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL- authorised Cat dealer for Singapore, Maldives and Christmas Island-Indian Ocean) and has owned Cat equipment since its inception. ECK s bulk of projects are governmental contracts and it recognises that reliable and sturdy Cat equipment, whilst boosting its image as a premium equipment owner, offers the best option to meeting deadlines and getting maximum workload carried out with minimum downtime. 3 The Cat C280 Offshore Power Module on its custom-built inclined skidbase On 13th December 2013, TSL s Power Systems team, together with Caterpillar Global Petroleum Asia Pacific, held the Cat Offshore Solutions Seminar for Oil & Gas customers and also saw the successful commencement of the inclination type approval test for the Cat C280 offshore power module in TSL s workshop. During the half-day seminar, attendees were given a tour of the TSL facilities which included its Training Center, Parts Warehouse and workshop, where they had an exclusive view of the Cat C280 offshore module on its inclined skidbase platform prior to its testing. Back in the seminar room, attendees were presented with TSL s proven expertise in the offshore oil & gas sector by Mr Song Guoxu (Segment Head of Petroleum/Industrial, TSL Power Systems) and were privy to the latest Caterpillar offshore petroleum product updates from Lafayette, Indianabased Caterpillar Design Engineer (Global Petroleum) Mr Nicholas Clinkenbeard. They also had a preview of Cat Connect Solutions by Mr Lim Hon Meng, Product Support Manager (Global Petroleum). This is a scalable platform providing enhanced condition monitoring services for fleet and asset management in the oil & gas industry. Before the seminar ended, attendees were treated to behind-the-scenes footage of the construction and initial testing of the genset that was put together by TSL. 4 Emergency Generator Requirement (NMA Reg4 Sec11). For this test to be considered successful, the 5500 ekw engine and alternator had to perform with 100% load for 4 continuous hours while tilted at a compound angle consisting of 25 degree fore and 25 degree toward the left hand side of the engine when viewed from the flywheel. This angle was decided and approved to be the most stringent inclining condition for the engine, to simulate the harsh operating conditions in a semisubmersible unit working in deep-waters. The test was of great significance to both Caterpillar and TSL Power Systems as it was the only such test to be carried out on the C280 offshore module worldwide and the first of such magnitude for TSL. Planning for the test took place in early 2013, and every aspect of the test was rigorously studied and considered this included the calculation and design of the inclination skid, risk management, logistics, and accessory and equipment selection. The Cat C280 offshore power module was certified by DNV to comply with the inclination requirement of NMA Reg4 Sec11, validating the efforts and hard work of the TSL Power Systems and Caterpillar teams. TSL is proud to be one of the few Cat dealers with the proven capability to successfully conduct a type approval test. Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL) authorized Cat dealer for Singapore, Maldives and Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) hosted a dedicated event for its valued machine customers at its facility on 25 October The well attended function was organised to launch and acquaint our patrons with new parts and services concepts all created with the customer s convenience in mind. As an answer to the Voice of the Customer, the TSL team came up with The Preventive Maintenance (P.M.) Kit. This package made its debut and was introduced to customers at this function, as a one kit- one part number pack. These kits consisting of genuine Cat parts, are more convenient and more affordable compared to the current practice of purchasing separate filters. Moreover, there are various options available for 500 hour, 1000 hour and 2000 hour machine service intervals. The specially designed carton boxes are easy to carry and transport to site. P.M. The Cat J350 Utility Long Tip is another product which was showcased at this joint show at a very competitive price. These tips are specially designed to provide excellent value in low impact, low-to-moderate abrasion excavating and loader bucket application. This is an economical alternative to other brands of long tips. Although machine customers are familiar with Cat Oil, TSL and Cat personnel nonetheless reinforced the importance of its special blend manufactured solely for use in Cat machines. With the aid of various types of oil on display, they expounded on the differences between Cat Oil and other types of lubricants. VisionLink was the star attraction as many were keen to learn about how the web-based application enables owners to better manage the maintenance, health, and utilization of their machines. It displays data collected from a Product Link unit installed on a machine, allowing easy equipment monitoring from any device connected to the internet. Product Link provides information on machine location, hours, health information and fuel utilization, which aid in detecting problems before a major component failure, reducing downtime and increasing productivity. 6 TSL s Equipment Department took the opportunity to entice customers with a sneak preview of some of the hydraulic excavator models before their official launch in early Four machines, namely the Cat M318D Wheel Excavator, 312D Series 2 hydraulic excavator plus two mini hydraulic excavators, 307E and the were exhibited for customers viewing pleasure. After a sumptuous buffet lunch, lucky draws were staged and several lucky customers went home with scale models and PM Kits. TRACTORS SINGAPORE LIMITED'S ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT DIVISION PARTICIPATES IN ITS FIRST EVER TRADE SHOW, GREEN URBANSCAPE ASIA 2013 Held in conjunction with the International Landscape Industry Association Summit, the Green Urbanscape Asia exhibition took place over three days, from 7 to 9 November 2013 at the Singapore EXPO Convention & Exhibition Centre. It was a great opportunity for the Associated Equipment division of Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL) to showcase its latest stable of landscaping and turf care machinery the Turboloader by Italian manufacturer Gianni Ferrari; of which TSL is the exclusive distributor of for Southeast Asia; and the New Holland Boomer 50. Sales Executives from TSL had the chance to network with professionals and industry leaders, including government officials and policy makers. Sales Executive, Mr Melvin Fong (in black) introducing the Gianni Ferrari Turboloader to trade visitors. This was the first time that the Turboloader made an official appearance in the Singapore market, and it generated much interest from trade visitors with its eye-catching red, reminiscent of the famous sports cars from its country of origin. It has the manoeuvrability of a wheel loader, offers the benefits of a telescopic

7 handler and has the compact dimensions of a skid steer loader. Operators are able to replace the wide range of work attachments easily and quickly without using any tools. Turboloader is definitely a versatile equipment for many tasks. The Boomer 50 from New Holland is the ultimate power tool for landscapers, golf courses and municipalities. It gives one the big-tractor reliability wrapped in a compact, manoeuvrable package, and is loaded with features that keep operators comfortable while saving on time and money. Aside from these two machines, the new Allmand Night-Lit PRO II was also on display. Established in 1938, Allmand is one of the world s leading manufacturers of portable light towers. Night-Lite PRO II series of light towers are compact in size and power, and have moulded poly gull-wing style doors which are impact-resistant and not to mention, rust-proof. The range also features Allmand s proprietary SHO lighting system, which produces more light than competitive towers. Four 1,000-watt metal halide lamps provide a total of 440,000 lumens of bright, white light that closely approximates daylight for a safer, more productive work environment when working in poor lighting conditions. The exhibition was especially beneficial to TSL s Associated Equipment division as it was able to leverage on this event to reach out to and educate a wide pool of potential customers on the range of products that it offers. The event was also a good ground to better understand trends and needs of the local and regional landscaping markets, allowing TSL to better address customers requirements in turf care and landscaping. Since its inception TSL s Training Center has gone from strength to strength, expanding its service training programs to customers and other Cat dealers, and more recently securing the MaK Training Agreement in Since January to November 2013, TSL s Training Center has provided more than 30 technical training courses and trained more than 180 people. TSL s Training Center s strategic location in Singapore has enabled it to be a hub for up-to-date training, technical conferences and workshops for Cat engines and machines in the Asia Pacific region. It is equipped with a Cat C175 marine engine and MaK M25C marine engine for Disassembly and Assembly training programs, and a Cat machine simulator. TSL s training programs include Technical Skill Development Curriculum and incorporates best practices and, where available, the expertise of trainers from its principals. TSL s in-house trainers customize training programs and curriculums to meet new equipment training needs of customers where required. As part of its progressive efforts to improve the caliber of its training instructors, TSL is currently on track to achieve the 100% Caterpillar Certified Instructor accreditation. The Excellence in Service Training accreditation from Caterpillar reaffirms TSL s commitment to be a provider of quality service training, and sets the ground for further growth in its training capability. 9 The morning s sunlit clouds across the blue sky signalled an ideal day for a round of golf. To enliven the game for the enthusiast, novelty events such as Nearest to the Pin, Nearest to the Line and Longest Drive were included at various holes around the world-class championship course. In addition, golfers stood a chance of owning a luxurious BMW 520i should they score a hole-in-one at one of the most challenging holes on the course. The commissioning of Cat C gensets by CEL s engineers As businesses realize the huge costs which would have to be spent on buying and maintaining hardware/software and move from owning their own computers to renting data-crunching power and software at a fraction of costs over the Internet via computing clouds with capacities to handle petabytes of data a day and thus save a tremendous bundle, China Telecom has positioned itself well by building the largest and most advanced cloud computer base in South China. SDI POWER SYSTEMS DIVISION SUPPLIES PACKAGED CAT GENSET TO MEET POWER NEEDS OF PETRONAS CARIGALI VIETNAM LTD S PVC-MS S DRILLING PLATFORM FOR THE DIAMOND FIELD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN VUNG TAU The Petroleum Equipment Assembly and Metal Structure Joint Stock Company (PVC-MS) launched the Diamond field development project in Vung Tau city in March Petronas Carigali Vietnam Limited (PCVL) is the investor of the US$57-million project, while PVC-MS is the general contractor in charge of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. PCVL has been operating in Vietnam since 1991 and has participated in numerous oil and gas projects in the country which boasts high upstream reserves. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, PVC-MS General Director Nguyen Dinh affirmed that the company, with its professional engineers and modern equipment, will act responsibly to ensure the project s safety, quality, and strict adherence to deadlines. The project is expected to begin operating on May 19, 2014.

12 The bare G3512 engine The exhaust gas cooler from Pyroban mounted on top of the Cat G3512 engine SDI Power Systems (authorized Cat dealer for Malaysia and Brunei), secured a contract through Tractors Petroleum Services to supply a Cat G3512A gas engine with Kato alternator to PC Vietnam Limited (PCVL) for the Diamond Field Development Project. The site rating is 500kW with 0.8pf, 400V, 50 Hz with a 1500RPM with continuous rating. The customer (PCVL) had requested for the gas engine to be able to take 110% load from the 500ekW site rating to cater for increasing power demands and future power requirements on the Diamond platform. During the FAT held on 25 Nov 2013, the Diamond Gas Engine Generator (GEG) successfully took full load to 100% and further pushed on to 110% load (for 1 hour) with a stable performance. Features of Cat G3512 engine Ability to burn a wide spectrum of gaseous fuel types High temperature cooling options for thermal efficiency Robust diesel strength design provides prolonged life and lower owning and operating costs Lean Burn gas engine that utilises excess air to absorb heat during combustion, reducing combustion temperature and pressure and reducing levels of NOx. Lean-burn design also provides longer component life and excellent fuel consumption. This project features an exhaust gas cooler from Pyroban. The main function of the gas cooler is to cool down the exhaust gas temperature from 465 C to below 300 C. This is necessary as the Cat gas engine operates in a SAFE Zone with gaseous fuel and the temperature of exhaust gases has to be maintained below T2 (temp class) or below 300 C for operational safety. SDI Power Systems Division (SDIPSD) successfully delivered the complete package to PCVL in December 2013 for their further installation at their deck. SDIPSD will provide commissioning and training services for its valued customer.
