5 Introduction Public transportation is a resource valued by millions of Ohioans. ODOT funded public transportation systems provided 111,687,171 million trips in Public transportation empowers individuals to be independent, seek and retain employment, receive life saving medical treatments, and gain access to new opportunities. This report provides profiles for the 62 transit systems, 190 Specialized Transportation Program agencies, 21 Mobility Management/Ohio Coordination Programs, 16 New Freedom Programs and 16 Job Access & Reverse Commute Programs funded through the ODOT Office of Transit. It also provides a list of associations, agencies, and organizations that frequently interact with the Office of Transit. A copy of this report can be downloaded from our website at under Publications. The information in this report has been gathered from calendar year 2011 data. The data has not been audited and is subject to change. Please contact each individual organization for the most recent data. 10 Urban Transit Program The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is responsible for the implementation of the Urban Transit Program at the national level. Federal assistance flows directly to the urban area transit systems from FTA. The ODOT Office of Transit provides state funds from the Urban Transit Program (UTP) to urban transit systems for operating and capital projects. 68 Rural Transit Program The Ohio Department of Transportation s Office of Transit administers the Federal Transit Administration s Rural Transit Program which provides both capital and operating assistance to public transportation systems in rural areas. This program passes Federal dollars through the State to designated eligible recipients counties, cities, county transit boards, regional transit authorities, and private nonprofit organizations.
