7 1.2 Key figures Dated: 2011 The mine employs 2900 people and produces around 3.0 million tons of high-quality caking coal and steam coal per year which is mainly used for environmentally-friendly power generation as well as for the production of coke. It is supplied to customers across Germany. The daily output is derived from four high-tech mines in a depth of up to 1,200 metres. Underground bunker systems allow for the continuous coal transport to the surface. The underground route system has a length of 115 kilometres. The coal is transported through the homogenisation facility and the coal preparation unit to the state-of-the-art loading facility from where it is delivered to the customers.
