3 Poland, Cracow, Tram del Papa Pope Francis in the PESA Krakowiak tram on his way to meet with the youth. For the very first time in history, Pope took the tram, thus promoting green public transport. Trams / LRVs PESA is the first Polish company to design, construct and deliver modern low-floor trams. The consistent development of new generations of vehicles for public transport, and their increasing diversification, are a consequence of the manufacturer s listening to the expectations of carriers, as a result of which PESA trams are now in use in most large cities in Poland and in several European capitals. Their advantages, critical for market competitiveness, include innovation, friendliness to passengers, crew and the environment, and the adaptation of almost every detail to the individual needs of the carrier. Our priorities, however, come down to two words: safety and reliability. PESA trams can be adapted to tracks of diverse quality and gauge, from 900 mm to 1524 mm. Depending on the needs of the operator, we offer 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7-unit vehicles, both unidirectional and bidirectional. Their space gives a sense of comfort and safety. All trams are built from non-combustible or fire-resistant materials, and the effects of collisions are mitigated by a safety frame and an energy absorption zone. The modular construction of our trams, in terms of their structure, seat layout and equipment, allows vehicles to be adapted to the requirements of the customer. Thanks to this ability, PESA manufactures around 200 trams annually. By customer request, trams can be equipped with information and advertisement systems as well as monitoring. The use of the latest technologies allows the option of monitoring the operation of vehicles en route via online diagnostics. With the use of the latest multimedia devices, it is possible to review and monitor the primary components of the tram as well as the safety systems. The continuous development of this type of diagnostics provides ever increasing possibilities for monitoring the technical condition of vehicles en route. The underground railway vehicles and further trams being offered for future use to other cities provide confirmation that PESA is not slowing the pace of its expansion. The development of the LRV family is a natural stage in the development of our company. These vehicles benefit from experience in the design, construction and operation of trams and EMUs. Both our vision of the trams of the future, and our own design of a modular platform for the underground railway, will provide a significant alternative for carriers seeking means of transport offering high European standards of quality at a competitive price. 6 The bidirectional 5-unit Jazz is a new tram which, thanks to the use of axle-less bogies, has a flat floor without any raised parts. These trams are a development of the SWING family. The 100% low flat floor makes this vehicle friendly to passengers. The height of the floor measured from the top of the rail is 350 mm, facilitating the use of public transport by elderly and disabled people. Wheelchair users have easier access to the interior thanks to the marked retractable platform at the double-stream doors closest to the driver s cab. The tram has 6 doors on each side 4 two-stream and 2 one-stream ensuring the fast and smooth exchange of passengers at stops. The passenger compartment includes an efficient air-conditioning system. The passenger information system, apart from the front and side direction boards, includes a set of LCD screens which can additionally broadcast photographs, posters and advertising films. The driver sits in an entirely separated cab, at a control desk with a central computer terminal, making the tram friendly to staff also. The vehicle is equipped with a microprocessor control and online diagnostics system, covering all of the tram s circuits and components affecting its operational safety, with real-time recording of events and storage of emergency conditions. The information necessary for correct operation of the vehicle by the driver is displayed in the form of notifications and light signals on the computer terminal in the centre of the control desk. The wheel-set structure is based on two motor bogies. Each wheel is driven by a traction motor. Two levels of bogie springing guarantee a high degree of travelling comfort. The drive system with microprocessor control enables the recovery of electrical energy during electrodynamic braking, which is collected in supercapacitors, thus lowering operating costs. In the case of loss of voltage in the contact system, the drive system will enable the tram to continue for a certain distance on the power from accumulator batteries, for example, in order to move off an intersection. In addition, for increased safety, the vehicle is equipped with a modern anti-collision system which warns the driver of the danger of collision with obstacles on the track in front of the tram. The vehicle s control system allows the detection and elimination of skidding during starting and braking. Jazz family trams are also available in unidirectional configurations. First trams of the JAZZ family have already been delivered by PESA to Warsaw and Gdansk. The technical solutions used are the result of many years of experience from the operation of three past generations of vehicles, as well as the expectations of the carriers operating in those two cities.

8 The newest tram from PESA Bydgoszcz is not a continuation of the Swing or Jazz, nor is it a competitor to them. It is an important addition to the company s range. Częstochowa became the first city to appreciate its qualities, and the Twist Step model has now been chosen by Tramwaje Śląskie [Silesian Trams] and is in use in cities including Katowice, Chorzów and Bytom. An expansion of this family are TWIST designed and constructed exclusively for the city of Wroclaw, and Krakowiak - the longest tram in Poland delivered to the historical capital of the country. The low floor makes the tram comfortable and facilitates travel for disabled persons. The 3-unit version has four rotary bogies and 16 wheels, lowering the pressure on the rails. This increases the lifetime of the track, leading to substantial savings. The floor in the entrance zone at a height of 300 to 350 mm above the top of the rail, as well as a ramp for baby carriages and wheelchairs, help disabled people to use the tram and improve the exchange of passengers. The drive system allows the energy expended during braking to be recovered and returned to the system (optional collection of energy in capacitors for use when starting and accelerating). This lowers the tram s operating costs. An important advantage of the drive used is the ability to relocate the tram in emergencies using the energy stored in the battery. Thanks to the effectiveness of the drive systems, PESA s trams achieve an acceleration which is optimal for the comfort of travel, while the control system enables shortening of the braking distance. Like the Swing and Jazz, the Twist provides online diagnostics to enable monitoring of the condition of the vehicle fleet. Also an event classification system enables the driver to determine independently how to proceed at a given moment.

10 The Fokstrot FORWARD low-floor tram was manufactured by PESA Bydgoszcz SA for the city of Moscow. It is a modern, new-generation, 3-unit tram built using the latest technological solutions. It is designed for urban passenger traffic on tracks with a 1524 mm gauge. The FORWARD is distinguished by the modern appearance of its body and interior, as well as its equipment, which substantially increases the comfort of travel for passengers and the comfort of work for the driver. The low floor throughout the vehicle substantially facilitates boarding and alighting as well as movement within the interior. The retractable ramp and wide entrances facilitate access for wheelchair users. The air-conditioning and heating systems in the passenger compartment and driver s cab, the on-board monitoring system, the audiovisual passenger information system, the ability to use wireless Internet, LED lighting, ergonomic seats, the ability of the passengers to open the door independently, and the large, tinted windows, all help ensure the comfort and safety of travel. Distinctive features of the FORWARD tram include the use of composite materials, a new type of rotary bogie and an asynchronous motor. Using the power supply from the accumulator batteries, it is possible to relocate the vehicle in case of lack of power in the network or on sections outside the network. It is possible to use the online diagnostic system developed by PESA Bydgoszcz SA, enabling monitoring of the condition of the tram fleet and fast reaction in case of any faults. In 2016 PESA Bydgoszcz SA was awarded the contract for the delivery of 10 trams from the Fokstrot family for Kiev - the capital city of Ukraine

12 Swing low-floor trams have been tested in challenging operating conditions and have confirmed their excellent functional parameters in cities in Poland (Warsaw, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Toruń) and in other countries (Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia). We have so far delivered around 300 Swing trams. The vast experience gained in cooperation with our customers during operation provides the certainty that Swing trams from PESA Bydgoszcz will fulfil all of the requirements of their users. The vehicle s interior is functional, spatial and comfortable for passengers, and offers a harmonious colour scheme. Thanks to its single-space structure, wide passages, the use of a platform for disabled passengers and a completely low floor, the efficient exchange of passengers, including those with reduced mobility, is ensured. Swing trams have air-conditioning both in the passenger compartment and in the driver s cab. Safety is no less important than comfort. The Swing has a structure with a compressive strength of 400 kn and collision resistance in accordance with the EN standard. The front of the vehicle has absorbers which absorb the energy from collisions with obstacles and other vehicles, ensuring the safety of passengers and the driver as well as substantially lowering the time and costs of any repairs. The design of the Swing bogies is a solution tested and appreciated around the world, with a classic wheel set with axles. The structure of these elements is versatile and allows replacement of the motor bogies as well as their rotation in place under the vehicle s body, thus prolonging the lifetime of the rims and the time before they need reprofiling. Servicing of the bogies is simple, intuitive and cheap. The modern drive system provides the ability to recover energy. At the customer s request, the tram can be provided with energy-storing capacitors, which help lower operating costs. Thanks to the drive used, it is possible to relocate the vehicle in case of lack of power supply. The energy collected in the batteries allows the tram to be moved a short distance without power from the contact system.

We work to make operating costs as low as possible and ergonomic qualities as high as possible. We try to make trams which have a neutral effect on the natural environment. We are strengthening the PESA brand a manufacturer of safe, modern vehicles. In today s world of urban rail vehicles, an interesting and original design is a must for any project. PESA, due to its own industrial design department as well as cooperation with outside partners, is ready to offer any type of interesting and original tram appearance. We are developing technical solutions for PESA trams which allow the complete elimination of overhead lines as a power source. This is all being done to make a tram system which will not have an adverse effect on the city s landscape. An inviting design, in combination with punctuality, ease of access, and a positive campaign encouraging drivers to leave their cars in the garage and choose the tram, will be of great advantage to a city in its battle against traffic congestion. Ecology has been an essential quality in PESA s trams for many years, and we continue to follow that path. Optimizing energy consumption, and ensuring that as many as possible of the construction materials are recyclable, are tasks of our R&D department in any new project. 15 LRVs the next stage of PESA s development Thinking of operators all around the world, we have decided to make use of our past experience with LRVs and EMUs and design our own modular platform for an underground rail car. Our platform aims to meet these requirements. It is an alternative option for customers seeking vehicles with a high European standard of quality at a competitive price.
