3 challenges A lot of people travel everyday to work and on business into Katowice, using own private cars. It makes there is a giant traffic jam in the city almost everyday, there are problems with the parking places, with quality of air and noise pollution in the city centre. and solutions One way to reduce air pollution and noise is a sustainable transport system, including intelligent traffic system in the city, accessible public transport, green transport modes and others. 5 The modernization of the infrastructure of the tram and trolleybus in the Upper Silesian Agglomeration with the connected infrastructure. Project co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment The beneficiary of the project - Silesian Trams SA Partner - City of Tychy The entity authorized to incur eligible expenses - Tyskie trolleybus line Ltd. The project is divided into two sub-projects: Subproject 1 is performed by Silesian Trams SA. Investments are located at 3 tram corridors, linking the main cities of the Upper Silesian Agglomeration (Bytom, Chorzów, Katowice, Ruda Śląska, Sosnowiec and Zabrze) Subproject 2 is implemented by the City of Tychy and Tyskie trolley bus line Ltd. 7 EVUE Project (Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) Project implemented under URBACT II Programme The leader of the project is Westminster City Council (London). Other partners involved in the project: Lisbon, Beja, Madrid, Frankfurt, Oslo, Stockholm, Suceava, Zografou and Katowice. The purpose of this project is to learn, how cities can develop integrated and sustainable strategies to increase the using of electric vehicles. 8 EVUE Project (Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) The purpose of project is to learn, how cities can develop integrated and sustainable strategies to increase the using of electric vehicles. This includes: Infrastructure requirements and options, especially in congested areas: e.g., charging points on street or off street, standard or rapid charging, green energy. Policy framework: incentives, local law relating to parking & congestion implications, modal shift. Marketing & Communication: especially education & public awareness raising. 10 EVUE Project (Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) Local Action Plan includes some actions concerning e-mobility in Katowice: incentives- free parking under framework of the local regulations for Ev and PHEV, educational actions- meetings in schools, EV for City Hall- for testing by diffrent municipal services, awareness raising on the e-mobility theme in City of Katowice. 11 Electric vehicles in didactics at the Silesian University of Technology Electric and hybrid vehicles of own design and construction are used in the processes of teaching and classes with students at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology since twelve years. 13 Implementation of Intelligent Transport Management System in Katowice, including the functions of the metropolitan city of Katowice The conceptual phase of project was completed. The implementation of the project needs the money. The project was submitted to the Base Partner 3 for funding in time The project involves City of Katowice and KZK GOP (Municipal Association of Communication of Upper Silesian Industrial Region) Intelligent transportation management system includes individual transport and public transport, and various modes of transport. The main objectives of project are improve the functioning of the transport system and significant increase in the share of the public transport in the low-carbon travels Expected duration of the project: SUM First Thematic Workshop Vigo, 25th October

14 Implementation of Intelligent Transport Management System in Katowice, including the functions of the metropolitan city of Katowice The basic elements of such system are: zonal control system with the traffic priority for public transport, management system of different types of public transport, passenger information system, parking information system, information system about the size and traffic conditions, warning system about the security threats on the road, traffic control system in crisis. 15 In June 2012, the Ministry of Economy has prepared a document entitled: Conditions of Implementation of the Integrated E-mobility System in Poland This document includes the three phases of the development of e-mobility in Poland: Phase I - current status - the current existing conditions and opportunities that do not require significant investments in material and regulatory structure of the power grid in the country. Phase II - transition state - is necessary to estimate the degree of market penetration of electric vehicles, which will need to adjust the network and production to the increased demand for energy. Phase III - target state - taking into account the commercial form of electricity with the use of smart grids and the regulatory role of automotive batteries. The purpose of this document is to develop policies and preparation of incentives or actions to facilitate growth of e-mobility in Poland.
