1 NO: LS-021 PRODUCT: D4N/D4N-R/D4NH Limit Switches DATE: April 2005 TYPE: Product Release New D4N, D4N-R, D4NH Compact Plastic Safety Limit Switches Replace Existing D4D Series D4N-R Manual Reset Safety Limit Switch D4N Safety Limit Switch D4NH Hinged Door Switch The D4N Miniature Safety Limit Switch, D4N-R Miniature Manual Reset Safety Limit Switch and D4NH Miniature Hinged Safety-door Switch are all upgraded versions of the existing D4D-N, D4D-R and D4DH series of switches. All switches have new common upgraded features and design enhancements to make them more flexible when selecting the perfect product for the application. Key Features and Benefits Over 1000 different models to choose from with a variety of actuators, contact forms and conduit sizes: increase the saleability of equipment in the global market by using locally available parts. Gold Clad contacts: offers increased reliability when switching smaller loads such as PLC inputs when monitoring switch status or when switching up to 60A of current. Up to 3 contacts: allow for remote monitoring of the switch status without affecting the safety of the switch Zb contact form on all contacts: allows for the switching of loads with different polarities and voltages, even on snap-action contact models M12 connector models: decrease maintenance downtime with a M12 quick connect. IP67: upgraded enclosure allows for use in more harsh / wet environments. MBB contacts: make before break contact models allow the N.O. contacts to close before the N.C. contacts open. Bearing roller model (D4N only): Increases the life span of the lever in repeated use applications.
2 Target Market / Applications The D4N switches are designed for lighter-duty applications or in environments where the switches are not as susceptible to damage. Ideal uses for these types of switches are on access panel doors, travel detection of linear motion, over-travel of linear motion due to failed components (D4N-R). The D4N and D4N-R switches can be used in both safety and non-safety applications, however the D4NH will primarily be used in safety door applications. When used in industrial safety applications switches require monitoring and thus require the use of a safety relay, safety relay unit or safety controller. Omron now carries a variety of options ranging from simple G7SA/G7SE force-guided relays to G9SA/G9SB safety relay units and now more advanced controllers such as the G9SX flexible safety unit and F3SX safety controller. 2

The main items that have been put into inventory are the snap-action 2 and 3 contact versions with North American 1, 2 conduit types and M12 connector models. All other models not listed have been uploaded to JD Edwards but do not have inventory levels but, are available upon request. Pricing is slightly less than the existing D4D series in some cases, please refer to JD Edwards for complete details. 3

6 Technical Reference Due to the 3 contact configurations, the switch body was lengthened compared to the existing D4D series. Refer to the table below for mounting differences. The operation point of the switch has been maintained and is compatible with existing models for replacement purposes. 6
