7 Image of ESE Electricity Supply Enterprise is one of the Enterprises of Ministry of Electric Power. ESE received Electricity from 230 kv, 132 kv Primary Stations and Generating Stations of Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise(MEPE). Outside of Yangon Region, 33 kv, 11 kv, 400 V Lines and 66 kv Sub-Stations, 33 kv Sub-Stations, 11/0.4 kv Distribution Transformers are under control of ESE. Other way, Distribution Sectors of the whole country except Yangon Region are ESE s authority. 7
8 Activities and Objectives 1. To reduce the loss of electricity incurred in distribution 2. To reduce the power interruption frequency and duration 3. To distribute more electricity for economic development 4. To distribute more electricity for towns and villages and then electrification by diesel generating sets will be eliminated 5. To promote private sector participation in power distribution 8

28 Private Sector Participation in Power Distribution Now, MOEP allows private sector participation not only in generation but also in distribution. In some townships, distribution business is allowed to local private companies for participation and they carry out the operation of the distribution at permitted area. They take power from the MOEP s grid and the purchasing price for the distribution companies vary in different areas in accordance with the average selling price and percentage of the unit loss in permitted area. But the tariff for end users is the same as that of MOEP and so they can get more profit by trying to reduce distribution loss in their permitted area. 28
