2 The San Diego Region of P.I. has again been selected to provide transportation for the V.I.P.'s in the Coronado Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at 6 PM, Friday, December 5th. Participants should meet at 5:50 PH. Line-up will commence on Isabella near the Rotary Christmas tree. V.I.P.'s will be given transportation where possible. All cars will then fall in line behind the fire engine on Orange Avenue, near the Bank of Coronado at the corner of Crange Avenue and Loma Avenue.. Installation and awards brunch. Tentatively set for Jan. 11 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. Stadium Swap Heet. Feb. 1 National Membership Meet in Anaheim. The annual Christmas party \vill immediately follow the parade. The party will again be located at the Glorietta Bay Inn. The club has reserved the same room as in 1985, suite #453, for this occassion. The Christmas party, as in the past, will be a pot-luck affair. The food assignments are as follows: Members with last names beginning with: A-F bring chips/dip or appetizer G-M bring salad N-S bring hot dish T-Z bring desert The club will provide a sliced ham and rclls along with sodas, coffee, and tableware. Each guest is encouraged to bring a gift ($ $10.00). Hen should bring a man's gift and women should bring a woman's gift. Please mark plainly on the outside of the package as to gender. These gifts will be traded amoung members as has been the tradition in the past. As you will remember, during the last AII-Cal Tour several club members wore clothing representing the era of their Packard automobile. Those members had a lot of fun and received many compliments. \~e thought it would be fun to incorporate this idea into the Christmas party. The wearing of periodical clothing will be optional of course. If you need assis- ~ tance with what to wear or where to pick UL that little item to accent your outfit, please phone Linda Bittner or 3.J. Hill. ~

3 In addition to the exchanging of gifts, the club will be giving away some door prizes. At the conclusion of the party, the hotel suite will also be awarded to an individual for the remainder of the evening. Local dues for 1987 will be coming due shortly. 5 TECHNICAL The Importance of Torque Tightening An item which does not alwolys receive the.menlion ii should receive is tholt of lightening various bolts and nuts to their specified torque. Mechanical distortion often may be the underlying cause of various failures or difficullies which might not holve developed hold a torque wrench been used. Probably the most outstanding example to c.:iu~ is the tightening of cylinder head retolining nuts because it is considered physically impossible for any mechanic to tighten a series of nuts to an equalized pre-determined tension with ordinary wrench equipment. Pulling cylinder head nuts up too tight, or tightening them unevenly, may be the COluse of ex~essive oil consumption, low gasoline mileage. generally poor perform. ance. or cncked cylinder heads. When the cylinder head nuts are tight. the tension of the studs in the block tend to pull it out of shape. If the nuts an: tightened unevt:nly or art: too tight. the studs may pull the 'Ylinder bores out of round so that the piston rings cannot seat properly and excessive oil consumption. loss of compression and poor performance may follow. This unequalized tension of the cylinder head nuts Ollso may cause the head to crack because it cannot expand uniformly when hot. Illiproper!} lighu:necl ooll!> and nats such as those at the main and rod bearing caps. manifolds, hody bolts. rt:ar spring V-bolts. door hinge bolts, etc.. may result in parts iailun:. poor engine: performance. body roar. or some other non-standard condition which might cause owner dissatisfaction. Noise in Steering Column Shroud 22nd Series When investigating the cause for a clicking or creaking noise in the steering column shroud. check the spot welds aloeg (he seam on (he underside of the shroud. While the car is being dri\ en. a certain amount of flexing takes place in the shroud. If a weld is broken. mo\'ement or flexing in the vicinity of the break may cause the rough: broken surfaces' of the metal to rub together resulting in a sharp cli~king sound. This condition ma\" be corrected by drillin~ a 1\'0. 11 'drill size hole close to the broken weld and then installing a No. 10 self-tapping screw having a threaded shank :\" inch long. A H inch drill ma~' hi: used if a No. 1 i drill is not a\"ailable-:- If the broken weld is located between the steering column bracket and the bell-shaped upper portion of the shroud. the hole should be drilled through both the shroud and the steering column and in line with the center line of the column.

7 o ul'etin 55T-53 Dealer 44 December 20, 1955 To: ZONES AND DEALERS Subject: TORSION-LEVEL SUSPENSION CARS UNEVEN RIDING HEIGHT The level riding height designed into the Torsion-Level suspension is of great importance and should be properly adjusted before delivery to give the best appearance. The compensator control switch turnbuckle is adjusted at the factory to level the car. However, for proper whaulaway truck" load.ij:lg, the rear end is deliberately raised by placing a load on the rear bumper, after which the leve1izer.swi tch under the instrument panel is shut off. The level riding height may change slightly after long hauls, therefore, all new cars should be checked and 1eve1ized if necessary. Leveling the car. can be accomplished as follows: Place the car on a level floot. Loosen the turnbuckle lock nuts on the link from the left main torsion bar to the control switch. Turn the turnbuckle to the right or left to raise or lower the rear of the car to a level riding height with the front end and then tighten the lock nuts.
