4 Tiger Tales By Paul Weinstein I wont spend too much time on talking about The Nationals because I know Steve will be covering this in his column but I just thought I d say a couple of things. If you have never made the trip with the club to this convention, I would highly recommend that you do it just once. You don't have to have a concourse quality car and there isn't anyone that will criticize you because you don't. The Nationals are about celebrating the car we all hold so dearly to our hearts. The tech sessions given by well known icons in the hobby are alone worth the trip. If you want to learn more about the hobby or want to get ideas on how to restore your own car, there isn't a better place on earth. There are cars from all walks of life at this international event. On show day, the lot will be full of concourse cars ( a great source for seeing first hand some ideas if your into resorting to factory correct or tastefully done modified), and popular vote cars totaling somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 GTO s. Even though the event does peak at show day, there are car and family events scheduled every day. The 2006 GTO Nationals will be held at Louisville, Kentucky. From the looks of things, this could be a very large family event. For one thing, the host hotel (capable of holding some 700 cars in the parking lot) is right across the street form The Great America Amusement Park!!! Just one suggestion though, the Nationals are only open to GTOAA members, you have to book reservations far in advance, and to the owners of other A and X body cars, there is a class just for these cars in the popular vote and they will be accepted in concourse running only in the modified class. The caravan with the club is a lot of fun. The club owns a bunch of open band walkie talkies so you can chat with everyone while your trailering or driving your goat. Getting there and coming home is half the fun of the trip. The Cruisin Tigers Welcome A New Advertiser Soon to be the largest collection of Pontiac Apparel & Collectables anywhere Paul Weinstein Thanks to Ram Air Restorations for the new ad placement. We are grateful for the full page advertisement on the inside back cover. Check out the back page of this newsletter and their website. This months cover of Tiger News belongs to Mark Grimmenga. Mark took gold honors at the Nationals with his 1969 Judge fresh out of restoration. I may be wrong on this one, but I overheard that his car was the second highest scoring car out of all 50 concourse cars. I guess Mark owes Jim Martino at Best of Show a thank you for that one. Jim did an amazing job on this restoration. Jim also restored Brandon Goodwin s 66 which took gold honors as well. I guess that s why they call themselves Best of Show. While on the subject of the cover of Tiger News, if your car happens to fall on the front page of this newsletter, not only do you get a couple of extra copies, but you also get a colorized version of the same newsletter. Pretty cool huh? As you are receiving this newsletter, there are only about 30 days until The Indian Uprising. If you have not pre-registered for what we believe to be by far the biggest show in its fifteen year history, I strongly urge you to do so. Not only do you save a couple of bucks on admission, but you fly right into the show field and by pass the lines getting in. Jim Stern should have the celebrity picture available for sale at the next meeting. I am not sure of the size of the photo, but I know its much larger than a regular sheet of paper and has individual pictures of all four of our celebrities on one sheet. All four of them have agreed to sign this print which could be valuable someday. How often do you see Arnie Beswick, Linda Vaughn, Ken Crocie and Jim Wangers together all in one place? The next club meeting is this Saturday. If you are planning on coming out, bring the goats. Even if you haven't been to a club meeting in a while, you should plan to attend. It would be great to see you!!!!!!!

5 The Prez page By Steve Lucas For the most part, all the Cruisin Tigers had a GRR888 time in St. Louis at the 26 th Annual GTOAA Convention. The thermometer read in the high 90s most of the week with comfortable temperatures in the 80s on Friday and Saturday. No rain! It always seems to be the hottest day on race day. Thursday at Gateway Race Park was 101 degrees. Probably 145 at the starting line inside your GTO with the windows rolled up and the brain bucket over your head. But for some racers, it only lasted 10 seconds. Me, a little over 15 seconds. That s right, Pontiac engines don t like hot weather either. With the high heat and humidity, Rich Heidlauf calculated that we were racing in atmospheric conditions equivalent to 4200 feet above sea level. That will slow you down especially when your car is tuned for 600 feet above sea level. I decided to cap up the headers. No use making a lot of noise when the Goat s only going 15 seconds. My next run knocked of a little more than a second and a half. Rich tells me that I was running too lean under the current weather conditions and capping up the headers richened the air/fuel ratio. About a half hour later, clouds covered the sky and temperatures started to drop. How much, I don t know. But my next run before eliminations ran.2 of a second quicker. Now, what to dial-in. I put on the rear window and ran a 13.72, a win. With the temperature feeling a little cooler, I dialed in again and ran a I broke out but the other guy broke out also. The rules state that the guy who runs closer to his dial-in time wins when a double break out occurs. Hey, lucky me, I m in the semi finals. Now I can really feel the temperature getting much cooler. I dialed in a I watched the guy I m racing change his dial-in from to right before we were told to enter the burn out box. Sneaky. He ran a to my I broke out again, he didn t. Oh well. Rich Heidlauf didn t do too well either. He probably had his mind at Union Grove, WI where he is currently in 1 st place in the Summit Racing Bracket Racing Series. Rich be there by Saturday to try to keep his 1 st place position. Good luck Rich. Keep us posted. The last event of the evening was a burn out contest. John Johnson s (GTOAA Chapter Coordinator) youngest son, Brian, and his girl friend, Lauren, were with me the whole day. Lauren wanted to take her first ride ever down the ¼ mile as a passenger in my 67 but couldn t. We found out that you have to be at least 18 years old to be aloud past the staging lanes. I asked her if she wanted to sit in the car while I did my burn out. I told her it should be OK because I wasn t racing. I thought I was the only one entered so this was a gimme. Well, I thought, I d put on a good show anyway. I stood on the gas pedal for seconds. I melted the cheater slicks. Then I did a launch and went half way down the ¼ mile hoping the rear tires wouldn t blow out and Lauren wasn t supposed to be with me anyway going down the track. Making my turn around I could see some smoke coming from the starting line. A 62 full size Pontiac race car was doing his thing. When he returned to line up behind me next to the grandstands, the track starter came walking (briskly) up to my car. I thought we were in trouble now! I told Lauren that she was to be my daughter and had my permission to be in the car with me. The guy told me that he has never seen so much smoke come from a street driven car. He stated that I did better than John Force did just a week earlier. Whew! Next came a 66 GTO up to the water box and made a gallant attempt to shred his back tires. He came close but no cigar. Another note to remember: Elections are coming up in November for Officers and Board of Directors. Positions up for elections: President (vacant) 1st Vice President (vacant) 2 nd Vice President (vacant) 2 Board positions (one vacant) Mark your calendars: Sunday, July 24 th, 2005, 3 rd Annual All Pontiac car show at Marquardt Pontiac, Buick, & GMC in Barrington, IL. Opens at 10AM. For info call: Ken August 19 th -21 st Woodward GTO Classic Weekend and Dream Cruise. Host Hotel is the Sterling Inn in Sterling Heights, MI. Call to make reservations. Rooms are $99.00 a night. See you on the 16 th, Steve

6 Meeting Minutes By Ken Smith On a beautiful Saturday afternoon (June 18 th ) the Cruisin Tigers GTO Club, Inc. held its monthly meeting at the Mr. Beef & Pizza on Elmhurst Road in Mount Prospect. President Steve Lucas (Cruisin Tiger # 219) presided over the gathering of 34 club members, which began at 4:12 PM. There was a lot (nice round number) of classic and new generation GTOs in the parking lot. (I ll try to get a better count next month.) There were no new members or first time attending members at this meeting. However, Arnie Goldstein (CT#103) rejoined the club after a few years hiatus. He owns a white 68 GTO convertible. Original GTO owners in attendance were: Clinton & Mildred Webb (CT#592) drove their light blue 65 GTO hardtop, Bob Bruzek (CT#439) (owns a blue with black vinyl top 68 GTO hardtop), John Cutts (CT#573) brought his black 65 GTO hardtop and Roger Illg (CT#681) in his silver 04 GTO coupe. Club Treasurer John Campbell (CT#16) presented this month s financial transactions of our club. Debits for the last month included membership dues and Indian Uprising pre-registrations & credits included Tiger News printing and postage, T-shirts, checking account fees, the club s anniversary pizza party, office supplies and printing IU flyers. John stated that we continue to be financially sound. Next on the agenda were the results of the bylaws election. As Club Secretary all ballots were mailed to my home and the final tally was 105 ballots to accept the by-laws as written by the By-laws Committee and none to reject them. So it is unanimous, we have an updated and legally approved set of club rules. If you ever need a copy of these rules, contact me and I will either or U.S. Mail them to any club member. Currently we have 248 active club members and are at a 46.5% GTOAA membership level. I passed around copies of club membership application forms and asked every club member to put some in their cars to hand out at cruise nights and car shows. Rick Last (CT#271), Jim Stern (CT#375) and I had available rooms at the GTOAA Nationals at the host hotel that we offered to any Cruisin Tigers that were looking for a room. There were no takers. Paul Weinstein (CT#558) showed this year s Indian Uprising event shirt and a new club t-shirt design. The Indian Uprising dash plaque of John Skwirblies (CT#273) 72 GTO was passed around the room to many oohs and aahs (mostly from John). I m kidding I really like the look. Next, Rick Last discussed this year s Indian Uprising car show status. He feels that we are getting better organized, but we still need some members to volunteer some of their time to handle all the tasks that lie We needed 3 volunteers for the parking lot and 3 for registration. Terry Disvilio volunteered for registration, so we still need two more people to help with day of show registration (which will be complete by 11 AM). Also since Betty Last & Jane Lucas will not be attending the GTOAA Nationals this year, we will need a volunteer to set up our club table. Someone noticed that the cars that have been on the last two Tiger News covers were photographed in the parking lot of our last two monthly club meetings, so if you would like to have your car on the cover guess where you may need to park it in the coming months. It was noted that we (as a club) have been skunked for an entire month of having our cars in any national publication. That really hurts! Then Steve showed a product named Kozak Auto Dry Wash that does what its name implies and does a great job. No scratches or swirls marks. Then Calco Plating at 414 North Wood Street in Chicago has a special price on re-chroming bumpers. The 64 thru 69 front and rear bumpers are $337/each and the 70 thru 72 front and rear bumpers are $329/each.They can be contacted at Next Jim Stern was given the floor to make it through his list of topics: Ric Murphy recommended Instruments Service, Inc. GTOAA membership forms were made available and the reasons for joining were discussed GTOAA s publication The Legend has had a couple of Cruisin Tigers as the cover and feature car of the month Cruisin Tiger laminated window cards are available. Indian Uprising Celebrity Commemorative Prints of our four guests were made available for pre-show purchase for $10. Our celebrities can sign these the day of show. The SEMA Action Network watches legislation that could hurt our classic club hobby. Jim said that you could join them on the Internet to stay informed. An example of impending legislation is that all exhaust systems must be stock. Jeff Hill (CT#7) said they were on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year. Also, Jeff talked about the Power Tour that he Long Hauled from Milwaukee, WI to Kissimmee, FL. It was $55 to register. He said there were 3000 cars that started the long trip. GM had a trailer with welders that would fix your car if it broke down for free. His car ran 205 degrees in 90 degree weather (with his new aluminum radiator). They had 2 and 1/2 inches of rain in Birmingham, AL. He found that if he started ahead of the cruise by one to one and a half hours that his travel time was better than if he ran with the pack. The total trip was 1700 miles and he used 165 gallons of gas with a 355 differential. That s a little better than 10 miles per gallon. Next year the Power Tour goes from Kissimmee,
