The Classified section provides the membership with a forum for the exchange of parts, information and vehicle-related items. Ads from members, whether for sale or wanted, include parts, sales and service literature, and promotional items as well as complete cars. Classified advertising privileges are extended to members only - FREE of charge. Only Pontiac, Oakland and GMC related, non-commercial items are permitted. Web Site: The newly updated web site is a wealth of information for members: registration forms, tech forums, chapter news, event listings, convention information, online classifieds, ID codes, links to an on-line member forum, many vendors and sponsors- the list goes on and on. 5 Presidents Comments by Randy Ray With the show behind us, we need to reflect on all the good brought by the show. Fantastic committee members and leadership, great, $7500 in donations paid out, biggest cruise ever in our history. The cruise is really gaining momentum, lots of other makes of cars now attending with more planning to. We as a club, should be very proud of the accomplishment this show is. We now head into the Fall season, I ask you to keep your car out as long as possible and enjoy the cooling air, and the great fall colors. It s just a fabulous time to drive your car, some of the attractions of the summer now have smaller crowds, plus the humidity has broken so the time inside the car is much more pleasant as well. So take that cruise you ve been meaning to do, just cause you may get home in the dark, you can enjoy the car as it was designed, turn the headlights on, maybe even the heater. We go all summer without even touching those controls, give em a push, you might be surprised. UPDATE we have 2 events in early October, the first will be the Elburn Car Show on Sunday 10/2, the second will be our Fall cruise on Saturday 10/8. Look for details in this issue. Happy Cruisin Randy Tigers at Pontiac Sunday Sept. 18 Cruise to Pontiac for the Pontiac Museum Show. On Sunday, Sept. 18, we ll meet at the Denny s at I-55 and Route 53 in Bolingbrook. 7:30 am we depart for Pontiac, that will put us there around 9:00 am. This Denny s has a VERY large parking area and gasoline available. The Cruisin Tigers are sponsoring the GTO Judge Class at the show this year. So those of you with a Judge, we d really like to have you turn out in force for us. And, for those of you paying attention, Bill Porter, one of our guest speakers at the Uprising designed the Judge Logo you see below.

6 POCI Nationals (July 12 15) by Ken Smith Tuesday morning July 12 th Bob Zeiger and I made up a two vehicle caravan to Bettendorf, Iowa and the 2016 POCI Nationals at the Isle Casino & Hotel. I was driving my 52 year old vehicle and Bob had his beauty securely tied down in his trailer. The drive was fun and uneventful and we arrived at the show site before noon. It is a beautiful location on the banks of the Mississippi River. I parked my car in a building that had no walls (only I-beams to hold up the roof). This was to be the show field (an indoor/outdoor facility which used to be a manufacturing plant). We went through registration and Bob checked into his room (which was throwing distance from the Mississippi on the 8 th floor), where he found that he had no water. A water main had broken in Bettendorf and half the hotel (the half that Bob s room was in) was waterless. It took about 6 hours before the problem was fixed; but that shut down all the restaurants, bathrooms and air conditioning during this timeframe. Wow another POCI Nationals catastrophe. We had our cars inspected at the Tech Center and were declared eligible for the event. Then we had photos taken, so the Blackhawk Chapter of POCI (the host club) could show the winning vehicles on the big screens at the closing awards dinner and ceremony. I spent all my evenings at my mother s home (yea free lodging). Wednesday started off by my contacting the host chapter to get a STAFF shirt and begin my help with parking vehicles in their appropriate classes. Because we were allowed to park anywhere on the show field on Tuesday, we now had to locate the owners to get their cars moved to the correct parking spots. Some didn t show up until Thursday. Bob Zeiger started his day with a flat tire on his tow vehicle truck. Ouch! The afternoon brought bad weather. Dark clouds followed by tornado sirens on the Illinois side of the Mississippi and potential hail. Panic started to set in. When the front hit us, the temperature dropped 15 degrees in about two minutes. The Memorial Bridge that crosses the Mississippi right next to the show field had an announcement to clear the bridge as soon as possible due to the incoming weather. Rain was horizontal that soaked cars on the west and south sides of the show field plus in about two rows under the roof. The storm rolled through with two waterfalls in the show field and water bubbling up through the concrete floor. The storm passed. Gary Firch and Tim Smith grabbed brooms to push the water out the sides of the building in preparation for tomorrow. That night Ames Performance had a POCI Welcome Night event that featured ice cream. Thursday was another day of my helping with parking cars. Our chapter meeting was from 9 to 10 AM. We had a member of the Land of Lakes GTOAA chapter ask about meeting the percentages of LOL members in the GTOAA. He said the percentage was going up again and there were concerns in their membership as to whether or not they would make the cut. Bob Zeiger and I sat at the front of the room, since we were the only Directors or Executives of the Tigers in attendance. We gave a background to our plight with GTOAA and that we were able to get our own insurance and survive without them. Thursday night was the POCI Night Banquet for club awards. An announcement was made that the Cruisin Tigers won a 2015 Old Cars Weekly Golden Quill Award for our Tiger News monthly newsletter at the Intermediate Level.

7 POCI Nationals (July 12 15) by Ken Smith Friday was set for drag racing and Points Judging and it brought me a new task. Randy Pribyl asked me to locate the cars that his points judging squad would evaluate and map out their locations, so they could speed up the process of going from car to car. Did I mention that the building that the cars were in was a football field length and width? I walked the entire building five times to get up and down each of the rows to see all the Points Judged cars window cards. Unfortunately not all the owners had taken the covers off their cars (and I refuse to touch a car without the owner s permission), so I had to wait and make another pass then another and another I finally had the list done, except I couldn t find one car (Randy found someone that knew where that car was). So I walked back to my car and got out my folding chair and parked my posterior for the next few hours. And as those of you who know me I played music. The sound man that was playing music on Thursday and Friday (not 3D Sound) had all his speakers in the middle of the building, so no one could hear it at our end of the building. Ah, life is good listening to the music of the 60 s. Later on Bob and I drove to Le- Claire, Iowa to go to Ancient Archaeology (better known on television as American Pickers). We did this while a large group of attendees took a Mississippi River boat cruise. 3D Sound handled the music on Saturday and made an announcement about our Indian Uprising event to all these Pontiac enthusiasts. Today was the Popular Vote car show. There were 64 classes of cars and over 400 vehicles. Because the vote tabulation was manual, each ballot allowed you to vote for your favorite five cars and one pre-war and one post-war vehicle. You could not vote for more than one car in any one class. Wow, was this difficult. I had two classes that I really wanted to vote for two cars, but rules are rules. At the awards ceremony later that evening, we had a great meal and saw Cruisin Tiger Arnie The Farmer Beswick be presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his many years of promoting the Pontiac brand. We then watched the two big screens to see who won CHAMPION, GOLD, SILVER & BRONZE in the Points Judged STOCK, MODIFIED & UNRESTORED classes. Then watched the Popular Vote cars get announced for OUTSTANDING & MOST OUTSTANDING awards. What a great event and great time! If you ever get the chance to attend this national event, go! Next year it will be in Fort Worth, Texas on July 11th through the 15th. (The following was sent to me from Randy Pribyl.) Just as a note of funny things that happen during the POCI convention. I received this juicy phone text from Bob Zeiger the day I was to meet him for lunch. I laughed till it hurt realizing it was meant for his wife. Bob said Ooops! (Here is the text message) Good morning, sunshine. (with some heart and puckering lips emojis). OCTOBER CRUISE by Mark Balinski At the September meeting we decided it was a GO, for an October cruise, details are being determined now so watch YOUR for notification. It will be Saturday 10/8, approximately 10:00 am, we ll head out somewhere relatively scenic, have a lunch (on your own), and then head back. Most likely head towards Sycamore, IL, somewhere out that way!

9 POCI Nationals by Gary Firch The official statistics for the 2016 POCI Convention. 660 registrants 78 Road Warriors 273 Popular Vote 102 Points Judged for a total of 453 cars!!! I am pleased to hear the positive comments from the convention participants. The staff was friendly helpful. The hotel was very nice and clean, the tram ride saved a lot of walking. The shuttle was running nearly nonstop, the convention tours very interesting. The riverboat cruise and meal delightful. I had my concerns about the building, some of skylight panels were missing from the last big windstorm. I put a lot of thought into how many cars could be parked inside the covered building. I wanted everyone to be able to park their cars safely, and have enough room to be with their cars. Well I have heard a lot of overwhelming positive feedback. The show participants loved my floor plan, and the generous amount of space for popular vote cars as well as points judged cars. I am pleased to say my plan of putting all of the Popular Vote and Points Judged cars under the roof, worked! Being in the shade out of the sun and rain was great. The breeze blowing from the north was perfect. I want to give a special thanks to some of the Cruisin Tigers members who came to the Convention, and helped with the show. Ken Smith, Bill and Patti Nawrot, and Eric Carlsen, your efforts helped the show greatly, and is appreciated. Thank You!!!

11 Meeting Minutes Aug. 20th by Mike Brandt Club President Randy Ray called the meeting to order at 4:02 PM. There were 21 Cruisin Tigers in attendance and only a couple of Pontiacs in the lot due to threatening weather. Our current paid membership total is 239, as reported by our Membership Chairman, Ken Smith. Randy informed us of some sad news about the passing of Marty Windelborn. Some of you may recall that Marty used to pay for his Indian Uprising five years in advance so he could be registration #1 every year. Funeral arrangements are pending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Now that the 2016 Uprising is behind us, Randy asked that anyone who worked on the committee or that helped out during the Uprising to please stand up and be recognized. A heartfelt thanks to all who helped out and gave their time to make this the most highly attended Show in it s 26 year history. There will be no 50/50 raffle or you ve got to be here to win drawing due to the fact that the items needed to determine the winners were not present at this meeting. Be here next month. We were guaranteed those items will be available then. We have a sparse group today probably due to the fact that many members are attending the Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan or getting their kids off to college. Elections are coming up very soon and there are four spots that will be open for nomination. The two Director terms that are ending are those of Mark Grimmenga and Doug Rudisuhle. The two Officer terms that are ending are those of 1 st Vice-president, Eric Carlsen and Secretary, Mike Brandt. Mark, Doug and Eric are all eligible for re-election, but Mike has already served his two elected terms, plus a two year appointment for a total of six years. Mike has already expressed that he will not accept another reappointment, so that means we will definitely have a new person as Secretary. Nominations will be open at the next meeting. Although it is not an elected position, an opening exists for Tiger Newsletter Editor. Please consider running or volunteering for one of these positions. It s a good way to understand what makes our Club tick. There are a couple of upcoming events that have been attended by the Cruisin Tigers in the past. The first one being a cruise to Morris, IL for their huge Saturday cruise night on Sept. 10 th. Mark Balinski will be coordinating this cruise, so contact him if you are interested in going. The cruisers usually stage at the T/A truck stop at I-80 and IL Rt. 47 around 3 PM and we travel to downtown Morris as a group. They generally have 700 to 900 cars at this event. The second one is the annual cruise to Pontiac, IL on Sun. Sept. 18 th. All proceeds from this event go to support the Pontiac-Oakland Museum. There are usually two staging areas, Busse Woods at I-290 and IL Rt. 72 for our northern members, and the Denny s at I-55 and IL Rt. 53 for our southern members. Once the Busse Woods group gets to Denny s then we all travel to Pontiac as a group. Times to be determined. Next was a recap of our Indian Uprising car show by Co-chairmen Ken Arendt and Paul Weinstein. We had 501 Pontiacs at this year s Show, a new record. There was a lot of positive feedback about our Show this year. That s not to say there isn t room for improvement, but it s always a learning process that we can build on. Our feature band, The New Invaders, have already expressed an interest in returning next year.

12 Meeting Minutes Aug. 20th by Mike Brandt as have some vendors, including Custom Auto Apparel, Jax-Wax and Dairy Queen. Our resident Meguiars representative, Ric Murphy, had trailer issues this year but will also return next year. Our next Uprising Committee meeting will preceed our regular Sept. Club meeting. It will probably start at 1 PM. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Committee member, Mark Balinski. We will welcome his input towards making our Show even greater than it is. Cruisin Tiger member, Gary Firch, gave us a brief recap of the POCI Convention held last month in Bettendorf, IA. He told us that there were 453 cars at the Convention, many of which were Cruisin Tigers. Gary is also a member of the Blackhawk Chapter of POCI which played an integral part of putting on the Convention just as we did in Gary also is an Uprising Committee member and helped out immensely at our Show, so he had a full agenda on his plate this year. Thanks again, Gary, and all of you who did their part to make our Show the success that it has known to become. On the subject of POCI, we would like to congratulate Cruisin Tiger member, Wayne Beran, on his promotion to President of the Pontiac- Oakland Club International. We know you have what it takes to take POCI to the next level. You can count on our support. The meeting adjourned at 5:08 PM. ELECTIONS!!!! This fall we have our own elections, we have 4 positions open and 2 declared candidiate so far: 1st Vice President candidate Eric Carlsen (incumbent), currently uncontested Secretary no candidate Board candidate Mark Grimmenga (incumbent), currently uncontested Board no candidate What s each job? We ll talk about the no candidate slots first. Secretary Mike Brandt did a great job describing at the meeting. The Secretary positions records and publishes the meeting minutes from each meeting. That person also records the minutes at the Board meeting and retains the official records. The 1st Vice President assists in club activities and acts as the President should that person be absent. Board members oversee the Officers on a macro level and set club Policy. They also approve or deny club expenditures that are apart from the day to day running of the club, i.e. should capital be expended for equipment, special events, and set Policy as seen in the By-Laws and overall conduct of the club. These are great positions, the Secretary gains a deep understanding by the sheer writing of what happens, and is a great entryway position. The Board position requires a broad understanding of club activities and hobby trends so that guidance can be provided as necessary. We VOTE in NOVEMBER, so any candidates need to get information to the newsletter editor (Randy) asap so that biographies can be published in the newsletter. me red694spd@yahoo.com or call

He noticed a lot of us now have modern muscle cars to augment our vintage ride, please submit a photo with both cars in it and we ll feature those in an upcoming issue. He noticed we have a number of late model GTOs, G8s (see this month s feature), plus a high number of Challengers, Corvettes, BMW, maybe even a Mercedes. Wouldn t be fun to see how many and what everyone has picked, I know that G8s seem to be picking up a lot of steam, late model GTO is obvious of course, and now with the demise of Pontiac, how many Corvettes, BMWs, and Challengers have shown up. I m pretty certain there are at least 6 Challengers so what s the most popular? Corvette? Last gen GTO? G8? European? Or Mopar?
