6 1. EQUIPMENT REFINISHING PAINT A. General: B. Approved Materials 1. Paint on ground equipment shall be maintained to present an acceptable appearance. (Maintained to AA Standards) 2. Paints and coatings applied by GSE maintenance shall comply with national or local EPA requirements limiting the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the paint. Many states have adopted more stringent standards than the federal EPA requirements and you are responsible to understand and comply with all local, state and federal regulations before you paint. Consult with your Supervisor if you have any questions. 3. Paint for GSE maintenance is specified below to maintain uniform color standards. Most paint must be purchased locally due to shipping restriction. C. Color 1. It is the responsibility of the painter to comply with the complete recommended application for the chosen system, including surface preparation, priming and top coats. 2. Application a. Paint can be applied by several methods, although any given method could be restricted, the appropriate method of application will be dictated by your locations regulations. Please consult with your Supervisor for most appropriate method. i. Spray cans (rattle cans) ii. Rollers/brushes iii. Localized spraying and/or Spray Booths 1. The chassis is Blue - match either of these brands in alkyd enamel,acrylic or polyurethane for Skydrol resistance if usage is allowed in your location a. 7 3. Comercial cab and chassis, vans and pickups. White a. Base color is Ford Z1 White, most automotive paint stores can cross this number to the brand of paint they sell. 4. Equipment outriggers, stabilizers, side hitches, perimeter bars, foldable or stowable handrails, and wheel chocks shall be painted yellow (Note do not paint rubber chocks) 2. Fluid filler caps and a 6" x 6" area around the neck shall be painted according to the fluid type. Fluid type shall be stenciled (or affix decal) on surface adjacent to filler in one inch letters. a. Maintenance work stands, powered access units, fluid dispensers, fuel trucks, and lavatory service trucks will be finished with polyurethane for maximum fluid resistance. GEPM Page 6

8 E. Other Interior 1. All floor surfaces, walkways and pedals, interior and exterior, shall be covered with Non-slip material unless otherwise specified. Use black conformable safety walk material, CPN or Grip Deck paint, CPN or equivalent as applicable. 1. Maintenance work stands shall be painted American Airlines blue (Aircraft Maintenance) or yellow (Ground Operations). Unless otherwise specified at time of purchase, corporate emblem decals, company numbers and other markings will be installed or applied by AA. See "Identification Markings", following. F. Identification Markings 1. POWERED EQUIPMENT will be identified with the AA "Company Number" as indicated per equipment type. The numbers shall be applied by affixing a decal or a stencil in white characters. If the location is light colored, the numbers should be blue. 2. The AA COMPANY NUMBERS shall be a minimum of four inches high, maximum eight inches high and of proportional width. Font is Arial Bold Company numbers are assigned when the units are purchased and remain with the unit until it is sold or scrapped, regardless of station location or transfer history. Location of the numbers may vary from the guidelines above due to its configuration. Stations are responsible to mark similar units in a consistent manner to maintain uniformity of appearance. 3. For NON-POWERED equipment that requires an EQUIPMENT INVENTORY CODE,( e.g. Towbars, use one-inch characters near the local control number. 4. TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE, (e.g. 30 psi), should be in ½ high white characters on the fender above each wheel. 5. RED/WHITE SAFETY REFLECTOR 2 x12 CPN ( ) shall be installed on mobile ground equipment as illustrated in the trim drawings in this Section. In general, the reflectors shall be installed on the corners of the equipment as high and as far outboard as possible. Station should mark similar units in a consistent manner to maintain uniformity of appearance. 6. For vehicles needing the replacement of Class "A" plastic or glass reflectors, use RED SAFETY REFLECTORS, three inch, CPN / , and AMBER SAFETY REFLECTORS, three inch, CPN / Red reflectors shall be positioned at the rear, amber reflectors shall be positioned at the front. This does not apply to any licensed vehicle. 7. LOGO DECALS, SAFETY REFLECTORS and INSTRUCTIONS shall be located as shown on the trim illustrations in this Section. 8. All AA and OEM control, instruction and identification stencils and decals must be checked on as specified on the PM inspections and shall be reapplied as necessary to maintain legibility.
