The Muirhead The Muirhead Air Cleaner Restriction Warning system has a red LED pilot lamp and alert sonar. This indicates to the operator when the air cleaner restriction has reached the point that the air cleaner needs cleaning or replacing. 6 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Auxiliary Light and Relay Controller The Muirhead Auxiliary light and relay control unit is used in light vehicles when auxiliary lighting is added to the vehicle, this allows easy connection of accessories. Part No: 2617 Description: AUXILIARY LIGHT AND RELAY CONTROL MODULE Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Daytime Running Lights System The Muirhead Daylight running lights operate off the ignition circuit of a vehicle. Option one automatically switches the vehicle's headlights on when the ignition is switched on, option two, the vehicle's headlights can only be operated when the ignition is on. 7 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Directional Change Controllers The Muirhead Directional Change Control unit is designed to prevent accidents and damage to forklifts from continued directional change whilst the forklifts are moving. The control unit will inhibit a change of machine direction unless the machine is stationary. The system does this by sensing that the forward or reverse gears have been selected whilst detecting the forklift's ground speed to check that the machine is stationary. The system is compatible with most types of forklifts that are installed with electric shifts. Customised versions are available on request. 8 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Door Open Immobiliser Controller The Muirhead Door Open Immobiliser has been designed to shut an unmanned machine down. The system has warning prior to shutdown. The pre-warning time can be adjusted to between 1 and 15 seconds. 5 seconds is the default setting. This system is recommended for use only on machines that have an automatically applied park brake that is applied when the engine is shutdown. Part No: 6174 Description: DOOR OPEN IMMOBILISER CONTROLLER Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Electronic Hoist Controllers This product has been designed to suit Caterpillar trucks that are converted into service trucks or water carts and have an electric over hydraulic hoist control. The product is installed to replace the OEM hoist control lever and provides limited control of the hoist pump. The electric hoist control is designed to operate in conjunction with Muirhead Automatic Throttle Control systems. When activated, it will operate the vehicles OEM hoist hydraulic system. 4

The control unit senses that the VIMS service lamp is active then latches on another lamp to indicate that the VIMS service lamp has been active for a period of time. 10 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Engine Hourmeters and Controllers Hourmeter & hourmeter controller (Part No & 3150) The Muirhead It does this by monitoring engine revs as opposed to measuring time. During periods when the machine is idling, for example at lunch time or in periods of changing work shifts, the engine hourmeter will not operate, therefore recording only genuine machine working hours. To enable universal applications, an input frequency signal from the machine s alternator to the hourmeter controller is used. Electrical wiring is used for signal transmission between the control unit and alternator. An adjustable potentiometer is incorporated in the control unit which allows the operator to adjust the RPM setting to suit their Hourmeter shutdown controller (Part No. 8566) The Muirhead Hourmeter Shutdown Controller is a unique product which features multiple functions. The system serves as an hourmeter controller, auxiliary output shutdown controller, idle down timer and extended idle shutdown controller all in the one system. 11 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Engine Retarder System The Muirhead Variable Retarder Activation kit is designed to operate in conjunction with the Muirhead Overspeed and Over RPM system. The system activates the vehicle s retarder relative to the vehicle s load status. If a speed violation occurs whilst the vehicle has no load or a light load, the retarder activates less than if the machine had a full load. Therefore allowing the retarder application to automatically adjust to suit the load characteristic of the vehicle The variable retarder is controlled by a programmable module which activates only when an overspeed or over RPM violation occurs. The system receives inputs from the machines strut pressure sensors to determine the machine s load status. On detection of the load status, the controller activates a proportional pneumatic valve, regulating the vehicle s retarder application in relation to its load. Part No: 1991 Description: ENGINE RETARDER KIT PROPORTIONAL BSP FITTINGS Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Fatigue Warning Systems The Muirhead Fatigue Warning system has been developed with operator safety in mind. This system once activated, randomly checks the operator's awareness using a visual warning. If this warning is not acknowledged by means of a reset switch, an audible alarm will sound until the operator resets the system. 7

12 The Muirhead Fatigue Warning system is most effective in managing driver fatigue for fast moving earthmoving vehicles such as ON/OFF Highway trucks and other fast moving heavy equipment. As an added feature, the fatigue warning system is versatile enough to be used on all other types of operating vehicles. The Muirhead Driver Alert Fatigue Warning system is designed to maintain operator s alertness to help eliminate fatigue induced accidents. The system checks the operators awareness by randomly activating fatigue warning when operator fatigue is most prevalent (i.e. early hours of the morning or late in an operator s shift). The system also features an optional speed set point function whereby the system can be programmed to operate only after a pre-set speed is reached. The system can also be optioned to actively detect if the driver is reversing the machine, or if the machine s park brake is applied. This function pauses the system to prevent any alarm activation whilst the driver is performing tasks which requires their full concentration and/or when the machine is in idle. 13 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Fire Controllers Fire status panel (Part No. 5884) Australian Standard 5062 The Muirhead Fire Status Panel is designed and built to the latest Australian Standards AS5062. The panel will the bottle pressure is below the desired KPA level. The shutdown pressure switch will trigger when the bottle has been discharged. It also has a key switch for override and pushbutton for extended shutdown when activated. The Muirhead detection shutdown used to protect diesel engines and turbo chargers against immediate shut off, which traps high temperatures in the engine, resulting in component failure. A delay to shutdown ensures the operator has time to safely park the machine prior to the automatic shutdown. The system also activates if it senses a pressure loss in Fire controllers (Part No & 3286) The Muirhead to shutting the engine off. The ground access control will work in conjunction with the Muirhead Service Isolator Control unit and allow the ladder to be only operated when the machine is parked correctly with the park brake applied and the gearshift in neutral. The ground access control will not allow the machine to move if the ladder is down. The system does, however, have an emergency override that will allow the machine to be moved with the ladder down. The ladder controller has raise/lower functions maximum time cycles that will stop excessive run times damaging components or draining batteries. The ladder will start and stop by a spring release toggle switch that allows the operator to start and stop a raise or lower function as required. 15 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Ladder Controllers Part No & 0834 The Muirhead Ladder Lighting Controller is designed to limit injuries when climbing and descending machine ladders. The lighting allows the operator to clearly see the ladder rungs as they board and exit their machine. The system allows the operator to turn on the ladder lights from either the cabin or ground position prior to exiting or boarding the machine. Once the ladder lights has been illuminated, they will turn off after a pre-set time to minimise power consumption. The time delay for turning off the ladder lights can be adjusted between 1, 2, 4 and 8 minutes. Part No The Muirhead Ladder Protection system is designed to alert the operator of a potential collision with the machines ladder. This is achieved with the use of an ultrasonic sensor mounted on or near the ladder. The control panel receives two signals, one at 6m, which activates an LED warning and a signal at 4m which will activate an alarm. At 4m or less both the LED and the alarm will be active. The control panel receives n/c signal to deactivate the LED and alarm making the unit failsafe in operation. Part No The Muirhead Docking Ladder Control (Part No. 9037) has been designed to provide electrical operation of a machine s docking type boarding ladder (often found on dozers). The unit will allow the ladder to be lowered when the machine is stationary with the park brake applied. It features automatic operation of the ladder raise control if the ladder is down and the operator releases the park brake. The docking ladder control has maximum time cycles for both raise and lower functions that will stop excessive run times damaging components or draining batteries. The ladder time cycle will start by the operation of the spring return toggle switch that allows the operator to control a raise or lower function as required. The docking ladder control also incorporates an internal sonar unit which alerts the operator when a raise or lower time cycle is complete or if a condition is not met and a fault has occurred. An output is provided for an external ladder access lamp this will become active for 45 seconds whenever the ladder raise/lower switch on the controller is activated. It accepts digital, analogue and PWM inputs and outputs. The system, used in conjunction with the PowerMaster software inputs and outputs live when connected to a PC. The MCD can be used in any application where programmable control is required to operate valves, alarms, braking, speed, throttle and other applications on mobile equipment. GROUND SPEED SENSING sensor to be installed when using this product. Consult machine OEM for position of sensor. OPERATOR WARNING The operator and personnel in the machine vicinity are warned when neutral is selected whilst the machine is travelling. This warning indicates that the machine park brake is about to apply. The period of warning is 3 seconds. PARK BRAKE ACTIVATION The control unit will activate the park brake circuit to apply the park brake when neutral is selected. The activation will occur after a 3 second period has elapsed. 13

At this point the neutraliser pedal is bypassed and therefore renders the neutraliser inactive above the pre-set speed. When the speed reduces below the pre-set it operates as per normal again. 19 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Park Brake Warning / Lockout Systems Part No The park brake warning system is a unique product that incorporates the following features: DOOR SENSING The control unit senses when the door is opened or closed via proximity switches. PARK BRAKE SENSING The control unit senses the state of the park brake via a park brake switch. OPERATOR WARNING Operates a visual alarm and incorporates an output for the OEM horn circuit (manufacturer recommends this output be connected to the OEM horn circuit via a relay). KEY OVERRIDE FUNCTION The system incorporates a key override in the external circuit so that the system becomes inactive and maintenance can be carried out. SELF TEST FUNCTION Part No The 8722 alarm is used in a 12V light duty system. It monitors the handbrake switch and the doorframe switch to provide audible and visual warning if the door is opened while the handbrake is not applied. Once the alarm starts, it stays latched on until the handbrake is applied (even if the door is closed again). *The doorframe switch is the switch mounted in the doorframe that switches on the cab light when the door is opened. Part No The 8286 D10T Park brake lockout is used to isolate the park brake and transmission circuits. This is sometimes required for safe servicing or machine maintenance. When a positive supply is supplied to the unit it will positively lock the park brake in the applied position and the transmission in Neutral. The unit is supplied with all required connectors to easily install this compact controller within the armrest of the machine. The system interfaces directly into the machine s starter circuit, automatically triggering when the ignition switch is activated. The system can be set to sound for a pre-set time period before allowing the machine to start or linked to trigger the machine s horn, lights or any electronic warning device. 21 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems PWM Sense Switch Controllers The Muirhead any given PWM duty cycle set point. This exceptional useful little device can monitor the duty cycle percentage and provides a set of changeover outputs (both positive), one below the pre-set programmed value and one for above. An example application would see it monitoring the duty cycle on a proportional retarder control valve using PWM control, the 5534 could be set to bring on an external light to indicate when the retarder is being heavily applied. Part No: 5534 Description: PWM SENSE SWITCH CONTROLLER Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Relay Ratchet Controller The Muirhead Ratchet Relay control can be utilised in a multitude of applications where an alternating state between on and off is desired utilising only one input (negative ground). 17

22 The unit contains a set of voltage free changeover contacts and inbuilt memory, this memory enables the unit to remember what state it was in when last de-powered so when re-powered it will return to that state. A green on board LED also indicates which state it is in. Part No: 4122 Description: RATCHET RELAY CONTROL COMPLETE WITH LOOM Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Remote Start Lockout Systems The Muirhead Remote Start Lockout systems have been designed to inhibit the selection of remote control until the machine's park brake has been applied and neutral gear has been selected. This product is suitable for earlier Caterpillar model machines that were not manufactured with this feature from the factory. The simple design and robust construction ensures a user friendly outcome. The interlocks are multi voltage and come complete as a kit for ease of installation into machine seat switches, seatbelt assemblies or transmissions. It has two LED indicates that the service is 10% overdue. Both stages also activate an output that can operate a visual and audible alarm. A green LED indicates when it is operating. Example of operation is, if a vehicle requires a service every 250 hours, the unit is programmed to 250 hours. After LED will illuminate. This conventional method of transmission shifting does not compensate for the engine's Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) during each gear change. The automatic gear change actually increases RPM load during transmission modulation producing higher torque load. This process dramatically increases component wear along the vehicle's drive train. The system consists of two sets of red and green lights which can be positioned at either end of the entry/exit points and an amber lamp positioned midway between them. The system is on standby when no vehicles are in the system and both ends display green lights. At this time, the system is ready to receive a vehicle from either end. When a vehicle enters the system, the lights at the opposite end will change from green to red, thereby preventing a vehicle from entering. When the vehicle passes through the system and exits from the other end, the light will return to green. The system will allow up to 30 vehicles to enter in succession from the same end and then count them out before returning the light to green. the operators to the presence of another vehicle. 31 Auxiliary controls / Operator safety systems Water Spray Controllers Part No & 4530 The Muirhead Water Spray Timer/Automatic water spray controllers (Part No. 4530/2774) allows the operator to manually or automatically adjust the water release rate by simply turning the potentiometer on the water spray timer to the desired discharge rate. The water spray timer utilises a solenoid valve to turn the water output level on and off and has a 2-15 seconds standard timer, allowing the operator to optimise the rate of water discharged to suit their application. The water spray timer incorporates two types of water disperse modes, continuous and pulse. Part No The Muirhead Auto Spray Controller (ASC) has been designed to provide semi-automated spraying dependent on the conditions. The controller has 3 outputs, two of which control the spray heads and one which controls the water delivery by way of a variable PWM output. The ASC also incorporates a speed input which senses frequency and two digital inputs for adjusting the water spray relation to the ground speed of the vehicle. The ASC has various set points which are adjustable via a custom software package. While the machine is travelling at below a pre-set speed, it cuts off the spray heads and the water spray and at various levels of ground speed it designed to operate the PWM output at a reduced amount duty cycle and the high input is designed to activate the PWM output duty cycle at the maximum level when calibrated. The ASC will connect to a custom water spray system installed onto a water truck to control the spray heads and the water pump and water spray heads. It will sense the speed that the truck is travelling via a wire that is connected PowerMaster software version 2.44 up and a programming lead Note that the speed settings will have to be calibrated for each different machine. 56 Forklift systems GPS Zoning Kits The Muirhead GPS Zoning System is a unique product designed as a powerful, low cost zoning system. The the vehicle is currently operating within. The controller (5421) monitors the vehicles position using global positioning system (GPS) combined with a powerful dead reckoning (DR) system. The GPS system tracks the unit using satellites while the unit has a clear view of the sky. The DR system monitors the vehicles speed, acceleration and direction to calculate where the vehicle has moved in relation to its last known satellite position. DR is a very powerful tool for when the vehicle is indoors or out of a strong satellite view. The combination of GPS and DR technologies allows for constant position monitoring of the vehicle that the system has been installed on. The controller (5421) periodically records the position, speed, direction and the zone the vehicle is in. This information is sent to the web based server and can then be viewed to determine where the vehicle has travelled. The controller compares the vehicles position with its set zoning area to determine what zone the vehicle is in. Zones are downloaded from a remote user s website, by the unit, through the GSM network. When an area is created or the unit continues un-interrupted zoning using the new zoning areas. Two methods can be employed to set the speed limiting zones. a graphical map, selecting the corners of a zone to generate a zoning area. The gap boundaries are automatically generated. to be achieved in the co-ordinates of the zoning areas. The unit is factory pre-set to 2.5 degrees on both the X and Y axis from the horizontal, therefore, the unit must be securely mounted on a horizontal surface. This will cause the alarm to pulse with a second output switching to positive that can be used as a return to idle signal. In the case of vibrating rollers it can be used to shutdown the vibrator system. When the second stage warning is active, a timed delay output will start its time out sequence. In the case of a vibrating roller this would be used as the return to idle signal. The default time delay output is set to 20 seconds, however this is also adjustable. The system incorporates a calibration process that must be activated once the controller has been fully installed. This will zero the angle of the controller. 67 Isolation systems Service Isolation Systems The Muirhead Service Isolator has been designed to provide a safe means of carrying out a live service on a machine. The service isolator will check and apply isolation to the machines park brake and gear shift if the machine is parked correctly and release isolation if it remains parked correctly. The service isolator safety interlocks will only allow it to apply isolation and remove isolation when all the correct conditions are met. The system when activated will check that the park brake is applied and the gearshift is in neutral and if both are correct will isolate both. 68 Monitoring systems Advanced Management Systems (AMS-100) The Muirhead AMS-100 series 2 is an advanced management system designed to monitor critical operating functions and control various components on mobile and stationary machines. The system is capable of monitoring eight (8) inputs and has both LED and LCD displays. These displays can be programmed to alert the operator of any alarm conditions and can display a particular function status. The AMS-100 series 2 comprises a central display data linked to a Programmable Output Device (POD) enabling the system to monitor both Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) and non-oem components. ENGINE FAULT FUNCTION The controller activates a visual alarm and shuts down the engine after a time period once a negative input is received via Murphy engine switch gauges. ENGINE SHUTDOWN FUNCTION The controller is capable of controlling and shutting down both energised to run and energised to stop engines. SYSTEM OVERRIDE FUNCTION The controller receives a start input which activates an override function when low water level and/or an engine fault has occurred.
