3 MESURING VLVE 3 Measuring Valve General The DPD and DPS series of measuring valves are used in dual line lubrication systems to deliver a precise amount of lubricant to a varying number of lubrication points. These valves are precision honed, repairable, and constructed to operate in harsh industrial environments. DPD 56 These valves have been designed to fit Farval rand mounting with the exception of our DPD20 series (which have been made larger to accommodate fitting installation). 4 4 DPD General The DPD series of measuring valves are dual discharge metering devices that have been designed to deliver precise amounts of lubricant in dual line lubrication systems. ecause it is dual discharge it will discharge a shot of lubricant out of either the top or bottom discharge port for each piston stroke. 6 6 DPS SERIES DPS General The DPS series of measuring valves are single discharge metering devices that have been designed to deliver precise amounts of lubricant in dual line lubrication systems. ecause it is single discharge it will discharge a shot of lubricant out of one discharge port for each piston stroke. 8 8 CCESSORIES ccessories Proximity Switches The PXS series (available in C and DC) is an ideal choice for electronically checking lubricant delivery status for critical bearings, areas that have a hostile environment, and for zoned systems. The PXS has a simple, low-cost design that tolerates most environments. Prox. Switch Specifications Size: DC: 2.8 long / C: 2.7 long. Check the valve to insure this is the case. See Fig Using an appropriately sized screwdriver, remove both adjustment screws located on the top of the valve s packing gland. 3. Carefully screw in the PXS switch into the packing gland until it gently Valve at full stroke rests on top on the indicator stem. 4. Turn the switch counter-clockwise one half to one revolution. 9 CCESSORIES 9 ccessories Cycle Counter Packing Gland This cycle monitor provides the user with an accurate recording of the number of complete cycles the measuring valve has performed. This allows for constant and reliable system monitoring -- reducing troubleshooting time considerably. Counter Reset Cycle Indicator Cycle Counter Ordering The cycle monitor is sold as an assembly and comes pre-installed with a standard measuring valve. To order a measuring valve with cycle monitoring simply select the appropriate measuring valve and add the suffix -CM. For example, a DPD56 with cycle monitoring would be ordered as a DPD56CM. Main piston continues to travel while delivering lubricant to bearing. t this time the indicator stem contacts the cycle monitor lever. The lever, in turn, activates the push rod. Pressurized lubricant enters the supply line which moves the pilot piston down, allowing pressurized lubircant to begin moving the main piston. Main piston continues to travel while delivering lubricant to bearing. The indicator stem now travels down until it no longer contacts the lever. This now completes one cycle. rass Indicator Cover The D1732E- indicator cover is designed to prote the packing gland in areas where the standard vinyl indicator cover will not suffice. It is contructed of solid brass and features a ridged top that enable easy removal. To install, first remove the existing vinyl indicator cover. Place the brass indicator cover over the packing gland and press down until the brass indicator cover reaches the hex on the bottom of the packing gland. rass Indicator Cover Ordering Currently we only offer the brass indicator covers for our DPD 50 series of valves. 11 CROSS-PORTING 11 Cross-Porting In cases where more lubricant is required for a particular lube point(s), or a discharge port is unecessary, cross-porting the valve is required. y simply removing a screw and a washer, the dual discharge valve can be converted into a single discharge valve--thus allowing for the proper plugging of a discharge port. Note: when a valve section is cross-ported, the amount of lubricant that is discharged is doubled. Cross-Porting Instructions To convert a DPD valve from dual to single discharge, perform the following for each discharge port that you would like crossported. 1. Turn the valve upside down and locate the phillips screw visible in the bottom of the discharge port. See Fig Using an appropriately sized screwdriver, remove the screw. 3. The copper washer under the screw must also be removed. Turn the valve upright again, and gently tap the valve on a firm surface until it falls out. De greaser and/or compressed air will help remove the washer. It is very important that the washer be removed. Leaving the washer in may disrupt lubricant flow. Remove Screw Remove Washer Fig Install pipe plug in either discharge port. For DPD 30 and DPD 50 series of valves, use a 1/4 n.p.t. plug. For DPD 20 series, use a 1/8 n.p.t. plug. See Fig To convert a DPD valve from single discharge back to dual discharge, perform the following for each discharge port that has been cross-ported: 1. Simply place the copper washer on the cross-port screw and using an appropriately sized screwdriver, install the screw through the bottom of the discharge port. 2. Remove the pipe plug from the discharge port. Plug either discharge port. Fig CROSS-PORTING

12 12 TROULESHOOTING Troubleshooting Valve Test Operate system until pressure is met and reversing valve shifts. Immediately after reversing valve shifts, shut off air supply to pump (allow timer to go into fault mode). Remove discharge lines from any valve portion where indicator stems fail to travel. (Remove all discharge lines of failed valve portions within that system at one time.) Test system once again (see test procedures steps 1 &2) System Test Mark all measuring valves for indicator pin position (up or down). Operate system same as above steps 1 & 2. Does valve now operate properly? NO Replace valve. 5. Check all measuring valves for opposite indicator pin position. YES 6. Mark all valves appropriately (see valve marking) Do discharge lines appear to be in good condition? NO Inspect discharge lines for kinked or smashed line. Replace or repair as needed. YES Did all the measuring valves indicate opposite pin indication? NO Test the lines with grease gun and fittings provided. YES Proceed to check for valve leakage. Is grease being delivered using a reasonable amount of pressure? NO Remove discharge line from bearing inlet. YES Proceed to check for valve leakage. If removed tubing now allows grease to pass (under reasonble pressure) contact appropriate person indicating that bearing inlet cannot accept grease. TROULESHOOTING
