GROUND THIS PRODUCT. The required electrical Power Cord Plug for this product is a grounded, 220 Volt, 3-Prong Plug (not included). It is recommended that only a qualified electrician connect a Power Cord Plug with cord to the motor. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the Plug in any way. Do not use adapter plugs with this product. When in use, make sure this product is always plugged into a grounded, 220 Volt, 3-hole electrical receptacle with an appropriate breaker switch inline. SAVE THIS MANUAL You will need this manual for the safety warnings and precautions, assembly, operating, inspection, maintenance, and cleaning procedures, parts list and assembly diagram. Keep your invoice with this manual. Write the invoice number on the inside of the front cover. Keep this manual and invoice in a safe and dry place for future reference. GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS 1. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN AND DRY. Cluttered, damp or wet work areas invite injuries. 2. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM WORK AREA. Do not allow children to handle this product. 3. STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT. When not in use, tools and equipment should be stored in a dry location to inhibit rust. Always lock up tools and equipment and keep out of reach of children. 4. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT IF UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS. Read warning labels on prescriptions to determine if your judgment or reflexes are impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not attempt to use this product. 3 5. USE EYE PROTECTION. Wear ANSI approved safety impact eye glasses when using this product. ANSI approved safety impact eye glasses are available from Harbor Freight Tools. 6. DRESS SAFELY. Nonskid footwear or safety shoes should be used when working with this product. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can become caught in moving parts. Wear a protective hair covering to prevent long hair from becoming caught in moving parts. If wearing a long-sleeve shirt, roll sleeves up above elbows. 7. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS MUST FOLLOW OSHA REQUIREMENTS. 8. DO NOT OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times to prevent tripping, falling, back injury, and etceteras. 9. STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing at all times. Use common sense. Do not use this product when you are tired or distracted from the job at hand. 10. CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS. Before using this product, carefully check that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect the operation of this product. Replace or repair damaged or worn parts immediately. 11. REPLACEMENT PARTS AND ACCESSORIES. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Only use accessories intended for use with this product. Approved accessories are available from Harbor Freight Tools. 12. MAINTAIN THIS PRODUCT WITH CARE. Keep this equipment clean and dry for better and safer performance. 13. MAINTENANCE: For your safety, service and maintenance should be performed regularly by a qualified technician. 14. USE THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR THE RIGHT JOB. There are certain applications for which this product was designed. Do not use small equipment, tools or attachments to do the work of larger industrial equipment, tools or attachments. 4 SPECIFIC PRODUCT WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS 1. DO NOT INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT ON ANY ASPHALT SURFACE. Make sure this equipment is firmly secured to a dry, oil/grease free, flat, level, CONCRETE floor surface capable of supporting the weight of the Two Post Lift, the vehicles being lifted, and any additional tools and equipment. Do not install this equipment on expansion seams or on cracked, defective concrete. Do not install this equipment on any level floor other than a first floor. 2. ALWAYS KEEP THE MOTOR (part #1A) COVERED AND PROTECTED FROM MOISTURE IF THE TWO POST LIFT IS TO BE USED OUTDOORS. 3. MAKE SURE THE OIL TANK (part #13A) IS COMPLETELY FILLED WITH A HIGH QUALITY HYDRAULIC OIL PRIOR TO OPERATING THE TWO POST LIFT. 4. MAINTAIN A SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Keep work area well lit. 5. DO NOT FORCE THE EQUIPMENT. This Two Post Lift will do the work better and safer at the capacity for which it was designed. Do not exceed the 7,000 pound maximum lifting capacity for this tool. 6. USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN APPLYING OR RELEASING A LOAD. NEVER ALLOW THE LOAD TO SUDDENLY RELEASE. SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY APPLY AND RELEASE THE LOAD. 7. NEVER LEAVE THE TWO POST LIFT UNATTENDED WHEN THE LIFT IS UNDER A LOAD. Whenever the Two Post Lift is under a load there is a very large amount of force that has been stored in the Equalizing Cables which must be controlled until the load is relaxed. 8. ALWAYS KEEP HANDS AND FINGERS AWAY FROM THE MOVING PARTS OF THE TWO POST LIFT WHEN APPLYING OR RELEASING A LOAD. 9. ALWAYS EXAMINE THE TWO POST LIFT FOR CRACKS, DAMAGE, HYDRAULIC OIL LEAKS, IMPROPERLY FUNCTIONING EQUALIZER CABLES, ETC., BEFORE EACH USE. Do not use the Two Post Lift even if minor damage appears. 10. MAKE SURE THE SAFETY LATCHES ARE IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION PRIOR TO OPERATING THE TWO POST LIFT. Always check to make sure the Safety Latches drop into the Safety Ladder Slots during the lifting procedure. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 4

5 11. REMAIN CLEAR OF THE TWO POST LIFT WHEN RAISING OR LOWERING A VEHICLE. Slipping or falling of the vehicle can result in serious personal injury and/or property damage. 12. CAUTION: TO AVOID DAMAGE TO VEHICLE AND/OR THE TWO POST LIFT, DO NOT RAISE THE VEHICLE TOO HIGH. When lifting, make sure to allow adequate clearance between the top of the vehicle and the Cross Beam (part #34C) located at the top of the Two Post Lift. 13. DO NOT OPERATE THE TWO POST LIFT IF THE VEHICLE LOAD TILTS OR BINDS DURING THE UP OR DOWN MOVEMENT. Always position the vehicle with the center of gravity midway between the Posts (part #1C). Avoid excessive rocking of vehicle while it is in the raised position. 14. SHOULD ANY WEIGHT COMPONENT BE REMOVED OR ADDED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RAISED, USE A JACK STAND (not provided) TO SUPPORT THE OVER BALANCED END DURING THE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE. 15. THE TWO POST LIFT IS DESIGNED TO AUTOMATICALLY STOP RISING WHEN THE LIFT BUTTON IS RELEASED. DO NOT BLOCK OR OVERRIDE THE LIFT BUTTON. 16. MAKE SURE TO READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AS OUTLINED IN THE MANUFACTURERS MANUALS FOR THE VEHICLES YOU ARE LIFTING. All four Lifting Points (part #27C) of the Two Post Lift must be used when lifting a vehicle. Always use the vehicle manufacturer s recommended lifting points. 17. NEVER RAISE A VEHICLE WITH ANYONE INSIDE IT. Do not allow others in the lift area while operating the Two Post Lift. 18. PRIOR TO DRIVING A VEHICLE ONTO THE TWO POST LIFT, POSITION THE HOLDERS (part #23C), FLEXIBLE HOLDERS (part #26C), AND LIFTING POINTS (part #27C) TO PROVIDE UNOBSTRUCTED CLEARANCE. Do not hit or run over the Holders, Flexible Holders, or Lifting Points as damage to the Two Post Lift or vehicle may occur. 19. ALWAYS POSITION THE LIFTING POINTS (part #27C) TO CONTACT THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER S RECOMMENDED LIFTING POINTS. RAISE THE LIFT ARMS (part #17C) SLOWLY UNTIL THE LIFTING POINTS SE- CURELY CONTACT THE VEHICLE. Then, raise the vehicle to the desired working height. CAUTION: Always raise the vehicle high enough for the Safety Latches to drop into the Safety Ladder Slots. 20. DO NOT USE THE TWO POST LIFT AS A PERMANENT STAND FOR A VEHICLE. Use the Two Post Lift only while making repairs. Then, immediately remove the vehicle from the equipment. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 5

6 21. PRIOR TO LOWERING THE TWO POST LIFT MAKE SURE TOOL TRAYS, STANDS, AND ALL OTHER TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT ARE REMOVED FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. 22. MAKE SURE TO RELEASE THE SAFETY LATCHES ON THE TWO POST LIFT BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO LOWER THE VEHICLE. 23. KEEP FEET CLEAR OF HOLDERS (part #23C), FLEXIBLE HOLDERS (part #26C), AND LIFTING POINTS (part #27C) WHEN LOWERING THE VEHICLE. 24. BEFORE REMOVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE LIFT MAKE SURE THE HOLDERS (part #23C), FLEXIBLE HOLDERS (part #26C), AND LIFTING POINTS (part #27C) ARE MOVED TO PROVIDE AN UNOBSTRUCTED EXIT. 25. WARNING: People with pacemakers should consult with their physician(s) before using this equipment. Operation of this equipment in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of the pacemaker. 26. WARNING: This product contains or produces a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects (or other reproductive harm). (California Health & Safety Code et seq.) UNPACKING When unpacking, check to make sure all parts shown on the Parts Lists and Assembly Diagrams (pages 16 through 19) are included. If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number shown on the cover of this manual as soon as possible. ASSEMBLY / INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: The Parts Lists and Assembly Diagrams are on pages 16 through 19 of this manual. Determine The Proper Lift Location for the Lift: 1. WARNING: The Two Post Lift should be mounted on a level concrete surface only, with a minimum thickness of 4, 3,000 PSI steel reinforced, and with a 28 day minimum cure. 2. Make sure to check the location for possible obstructions such as low ceiling, overhead lines, adequate working area, access ways, exits, etcetera. 3. Make sure to allow a minimum space of 14 feet in front and behind the Lift to accommodate all vehicles. NOTE: Certain allowances should be made for special vehicle requirements or unusual floor plans. (See Figure A.) SKU For technical questions, please call Page 6

7 CROSS BEAM (#34C) POST (#1C) ENTRY FIGURE A To Mount The Posts On A Concrete Surface: 1. NOTE: Mounting the two Posts (part #1C) properly is very important. If mounted incorrectly, problems may arise in final assembly and operation. (See Assy. Diagram C.) 2. At the base of each Post (part #1C) are six mounting holes. (See Figure B, and Assy. 8 3. Use a lifting device to stand one Post (part #1C) in the upright position in the desired location. Use the six mounting holes in the base of the Post as a template by which to drill six, 3/4 holes in the cement. NOTE: Make sure to blow out the cement dust from the drilled holes. (See Figure B, and Assy. Diagram C.) 4. If necessary, level the Post (part #1C) by inserting steel shims between the base of the Post and the cement. Shim as needed to make sure the Post is level front to rear and side to side. NOTE: Do not exceed more than 1/2 thickness of shims 5. Secure the Post (part #1C) to the cement, using six 3/4 cement anchor bolts (not provided). 6. Position the remaining Post (part #1C) exactly 10 feet, 8-3 / 8 inch from the Post previously installed, measuring from the center of the outer row of bolt holes of one Post base to the same location on the other. NOTE: Make sure to evenly align the base of the Post with the base of the previously installed Post. (See Figures B, C, and Assy. Diagram C.) 7. Repeat Steps #3, 4, and 5 to secure the remaining Post (part #1C) to the cement surface. (See Figures B, C, and Assy. Diagram C.) 8. Measure and confirm that both Posts are parallel and properly spaced apart, before proceeding to the next step below. To attach the Cross Beam (part #34C), use a lifting device to raise the Cross Beam to the top of the two Posts (part #1C). (See Assy. Diagram C.) Secure the Cross Beam (part #34C) to the top of the two Posts (part #1C), using one Bolt (part #28C, Washer (part #30C), Spring Washer (part #31C), and Nut (part #29C) at each end of the Cross Beam. (See Assy. Diagram C.) To Attach The Power Unit To The Post: Note: Locate the Power Unit on the left side Post (as seen from the front of the Lift - see illustration on cover of this manual). 1. To attach the Power Unit (parts #1A through #16A) to the Post (part #1C), use four Bolts (part #2C), Washers (part #4C), and Nuts (part #3C). (See Figure D, and Assy. Diagrams A, C, and D.) 2. Once the Power Unit (parts #1A through #16A) is secured to the Post (part #1C), fill the Oil Tank (part #13A) with #10 weight hydraulic oil only. NOTE: Make sure to keep dirt and other contaminates out of the oil. (See Figure D, and Assy. Diagram A.) 10 To Attach The Electrical Connections To The Power Unit: 1. NOTE: Attaching the electrical connections MUST be done by a qualified electrician. The required electrical Power Cord Plug is a grounded, 220 Volt, 3-Prong Plug (not included). 2. Remove the Electrical Box Cover located on the Motor (part #1A) to reveal a wiring schematic. Wire the Power Cord to the Motor as shown on the schematic. Then, reattach the Electrical Box Cover to the Motor. (See Figure D, and Assy. Diagram A.) 3. Plug in the Power Cord. Depress the Lift Button to start the Motor (part #1A), and Test the Power Unit (parts #1A through #16A). NOTE: If the Motor does not run, makes unusual noises, or feels hot to the touch, immediately push the Lift Button to stop the Motor. Unplug the Power Cord and have a qualified technician recheck the electrical connections. (See Figure D, and Assy. Diagram A.) To Attach The Hydraulic Oil Hose: 1. Wrap the threads on both ends of an NPT 3/8 male connector (not provided) with 3 of Teflon tape. Tighten one end of the male connector into the female connection located on the side of the Power Unit. Then, attach the 90 degree female elbow connector at one end of the Hydraulic Oil Hose to the NPT 3/8 male connector. (See Figure E, and Assy. Diagrams A, and C.) 2. Wrap the Fitting (part #6C) at the bottom of the Post (part #1C) with 3 of Teflon tape. Then, attach the remaining 90 degree female elbow connector of the Hydraulic Oil Hose to the Fitting. 11 To Attach The Equalizing Cables: 1. Lift each Safety Latch until both Safety Latches are resting on the second Safety Ladder Slot of each Post. To do so, pull out on the Safety Latch Release located on each Lift Arm (part #17C). NOTE: The two Safety Latches must be the same distance from the ground. (See Figures F, G, and Assy. Diagram D.) 12 2. Thread the Equalizing Cables as shown. (See Figure F, and Assy. Diagram D.) 3. Adjust the Cable tension by adjusting the Cable s Adjustment Nuts. NOTE: The Cables must be tight, with no slack. Each Cable must have the same amount of tension. Make sure that as the Cables are being tightened they remain in place over the Pulleys. 4. Caution: Prior to operating the Two Post Lift, recheck the Equalizer Cables to make sure they are not crossed or routed improperly. Make sure the Cables have remained in place over the Pulleys. To Attach The Holders, Flexible Holders, And Lifting Points: 1. Insert the slot of each Holder (part #23C) into each slot located on the Lift Arm (part #17C). Secure each Holder to the Lift Arms, using a Pin (part #22C). (See Figure H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 2. Insert a Flexible Holder (part #26C) into each of the four Holders (part #23C). (See Figure H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 3. Insert a Lifting Point (part #27C) into the ends of each of the four Flexible Holders (part #26C). (See Figure H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 13 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Make sure the area around the Two Post Lift is cleared of people, objects, etcetera. 2. Plug the Power Cord into an electrical supply outlet. 3. Press down on the Pressure Release Valve Handle (part #3A) to completely lower the Lift. (See Figure D, and Assy. Diagram A.) 4. Lower the Safety Latches on both Posts (part #1C) to the floor position. To do so, pull out on the Safety Latch Release located on the Lift Arm (part #17C). (See Figure G, and Assy. Diagram C.) 5. Retract the Holders (part #23C) and Flexible Holders (part #26C) to their minimum length, and swing them away from the path of the vehicle. (See Figure H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 6. Slowly drive the vehicle into position between the Posts (part #1C). Turn the vehicle s engine off, and put the vehicle s transmission in gear. (See Figures A, C, and Assy. Diagram C.) 7. Position the Lifting Points (part #27C) centrally under the vehicle s recommended lifting areas, and adjust the Lifting Points for uniform contact. (See Figure H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 8. Caution: All four Holders (part #23C), Flexible Holders (part #26C), and Lifting Points (part #27C) must be used when lifting a vehicle. Always use the vehicle manufacturer s recommended lifting areas. 9. Depress the Lift Button located on the Power Unit until the Lifting Points (part #27C) are in full contact under the vehicle. Check to make sure the load is secure. (See Figures A, D, H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 10. Raise the vehicle off the ground slowly to ensure the load is balanced. Then, proceed to lift to the desired height. 11. Release the Lift Button when the vehicle is lifted to the desired height. (See Figures A, D, H, and Assy. Diagram C.) 12. Lower the load onto the Safety Latches. Gently rock the vehicle to make sure the load is secure. The vehicle is now ready for service. 13. When finished servicing the vehicle, make sure tool trays, stands, and all other tools and equipment are removed from under the vehicle. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 13

14 14. Raise the vehicle slightly, and pull out on the Safety Latch Releases. Then, pull down on the Pressure Release Valve Handle (part #3A) and hold until the vehicle is completely lowered to the ground. (See Figures D, G, and Assy. Diagram C.) 15. Move all four Holders (part #23C), Flexible Holders (part #26C), and Lifting Points (part #27C) away from the path of the vehicle. Then, slowly drive the vehicle out from between the Posts (part #1C). INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING 1. Caution: Always release a load from the Two Post Lift before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning. 2. Before each use, inspect the general condition of the Two Post Lift. Check for loose screws or anchor bolts, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged hydraulic hoses or electrical wiring, improper Equalizer Cable tension, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, release the load from the Two Post Lift immediately and have the problem corrected before further use. Do not use damaged equipment and do not use if lift is not fully secured to concrete surface. 3. Prior to operating the Two Post Lift, inspect the hydraulic oil level in the Oil Tank (part #13A). To do so, use the Pressure Release Valve Handle (part #3A) to release any load on the Two Post Lift. Remove the Oil Fill Cap located at the top of the Oil Tank. Add high quality, #10 weight, hydraulic oil until the level of the oil is even with the oil fill hole. Then, replace the Oil Fill Cap. 4. Periodically, lightly oil all moving parts, including the Equalizing Cables of the Two Post Lift. Use a heavy, high quality grease to lubricate the inside corners of the Posts (part #1C). 5. When necessary, re-torque the Anchor Bolts (not provided) to foot pounds. 6. To clean the Two Post Lift, wipe with a damp cloth. You may use a mild detergent or mild solvent. 15 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION Motor does not run. 1. Check fuse on circuit breaker 2. Check for correct voltage to motor. 3. Inspect all wiring connections. 4. Microswitch burned out. 5. Overhead limit switch burned out. 6. Motor windings burned out. Motor runs but will not raise lift. 7. Motor runs in reverse rotation. Motor runs-raises unloaded lift but will not raise vehicle. 8. Open lowering valve. 9. Pump sucking air. 10. Suction stub off pump. 11. Low oil level. 12. Motor running on low voltage. 13. Trash in lowering valve. 14. Improper relief valve adjustment 15. Overloading lift. Lift slowly settles down. 16. Trash in check valve seat. 17. Trash in lowering valve seat. 18. External oil leaks. Repair and insulate all connections. 4. Replace microswitch. 5. Replace switch. 6. Replace motor. 7. Change motor rotation by reversing leads. 8. Repair or replace lowering valve. 9. Tighten all suction line fittings. 10. Replace suction stub. 11. Fill Tank 12. Supply correct voltage to motor. 13. Clean lowering valve 14. Replace relief valve cartridge. 15. Check vehicle weight and/or balance weight on lifts. 16. Clean check valve. 17. Clean lowering valve. 18. Repair external leaks. 19. Change oil. 20. Tighten all suction line fittings. 21. Reinstall oil return tube. 22. Adjust equalizer cables to correct ten 23. Shim lift to level columns (not to exce 1/2 ). If over 1/2 break out floor and See installation instructions. 24. Use a fast setting cement to pour int oversize holes and reset anchors o relocate lift using a new bit to drill ho 25. Break out old concrete and repour ne for lift-see Installation Instructions. 26. Raise lift to full travel, oil latch mecha through opening on top of latch cove Activate latch mechanism several tim reset lever to allow oil to penetrate. 27. Replace broken spring.
