Important Safety Instructions In this manual, on the labeling, and all other information provided with this product: This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death. READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS When using electrical Umbrella Lights, safety precautions should always be followed including the following: Work Area Safety a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. b. Keep children and bystanders away while operating this product. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical Safety Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the Umbrella Light. Do not use this product while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the Umbrella Light may result in serious personal injury. 2. Use safety equipment. Always wear ANSI approved eye protection during set-up. 3. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. Page 2

3 Use the Umbrella Light only with specifically designated batteries. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. Ni-Cd batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Install Ni-Cd batteries only. Do not incinerate. Read manual before charging. Input Voltage 7.5 V/600 ma. Charging room temperature must be between 50 to 104 F. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns. The battery charger gets hot during use. The charger s heat can build up to unsafe levels and create a fire hazard if it does not receive adequate ventilation, due to an electrical fault, or if it is used in a hot environment. Do not place the charger on a flammable surface. Do not obstruct any vents on the charger. Especially avoid placing the charger on carpets and rugs; they are not only flammable, but they also obstruct vents under the charger. Place the charger on a stable, solid, nonflammable surface (such as a stable metal workbench or concrete floor) at least 1 foot away from all flammable objects, such as drapes or walls. Keep a fire extinguisher and a smoke detector in the area. Frequently monitor the charger and battery during use. Do not charge batteries longer than 8 hours. This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children. People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure. In addition, people with pacemakers should: Avoid operating alone. Do not use with power switch locked on. Properly maintain and inspect to avoid electrical shock. Any power cord must be properly grounded. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) should also be implemented it prevents sustained electrical shock. Service a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. General Safety Do not use Umbrella Light for other than intended use. Inspect before use. Do not use if parts are loose or damaged. Maintain labels and nameplates on Page 3

4 the Umbrella Light. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement. Do not store anything other than the manufacturer s recommended accessories in this unit when not in use. Never look directly into the Umbrella Light. Avoid touching the LED s as they may become hot during operation. Keep dry and do not submerge under water. The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator. S a v e t h e s e instructions. Grounding To prevent electric shock and death from incorrect grounding wire connection: Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with this product. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use this product if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a service facility before use. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Grounded Tools: Tools with Three Prong Plugs 3-Prong Plug and Outlet 1. Tools marked with Grounding Required have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity Page 4

5 2. 3. away from the user, reducing the risk of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the tool s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically live terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) The tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) Double Insulated Tools: Tools with Two Prong Plugs 2. Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the preceding illustration. (See Outlets for 2-Prong Plug.) Extension Cords 1. Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord. 2. As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See Table A.) The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. (See Table A.) Outlets for 2-Prong Plug 1. Tools marked Double Insulated do not require grounding. They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code. (See Outlets for 2-Prong Plug.) When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See Table A.) If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. (See Table A.) If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix W-A ( W in Canada) to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use. Make sure the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged Page 5

6 7. extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it. Protect the extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas. Unpacking When unpacking, check to make sure that the item is intact and undamaged. If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number shown on the cover of this manual as soon as possible. 1. 7 FIGURE 1 Unlock Button 2. To set the Umbrella Light onto an umbrella pole (not included): Press the UNLOCK button on the side of the Umbrella Light as shown in Figure 1. Set the appropriate Pole Grip, Small (3) or Large (4) into the slot on the inside of the Umbrella Light-as shown in Figure Slide the open portion of the Umbrella Light onto the desired umbrella pole (not included) at the height desired. Press both halves of the Umbrella Light back together Operation Read the entire Important Safeguards section at the beginning of this manual including all text under subheadings therein before set up or use of this product. To turn on the Umbrella Light, press the On/Off Switch (5) (see Figure 2) to the ON (-) position. To turn the light OFF, press the Switch to the OFF (o) position. Adjusting the LEDs: With the Umbrella Light sufficiently cooled, swivel each LED housing until it is in the desired position. To prevent accidents, turn off the appliance and disconnect its power supply after use. Clean, then store the appliance indoors out of children s reach. Charging the Batteries The Umbrella Light comes with an AC/DC adapter. Press the release button at the side of the housing to release the Battery Pack (1). Attach Battery Charger (7) lead to top of the pack and connect the charger to an AC outlet. Allow Batteries to charge. The Battery Compartment has an indicator Light (see Figure 3) which will light up when the batteries are fully charged.disconnect the AC/DC Adapter. Page 7

Figure 4 Battery Unit (2) Battery Cover (6) INSPECTION and MAINTENANCE To prevent serious injury from accidental operation or electric shock: Before appliance inspection or maintenance, make sure the appliance s switch is turned off, and the unit has cooled completely. To prevent serious injury from Appliance failure: Do not use damaged products. BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the Umbrella Light. Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. 2. Remove the Battery Unit from the Umbrella Light as shown in Figure Replace batteries. Discard old batteries properly. Page 8
