READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS Work Area Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Protect others in the work area from debris such as chips and sparks. 3 Electrical Safety Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. If the tools should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user. Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in any way. Double insulation eliminates the need for the three wire grounded power cord and grounded power supply system. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the Power Cord. Never use the Power Cord to carry the tools or pull the Plug from an outlet. Keep the Power Cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Replace damaged Power Cords immediately. Damaged Power Cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked W-A or W. These extension cords are rated for outdoor use, and reduce the risk of electric shock. Personal Safety Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure the Power Switch is off before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the Power Switch, or plugging in power tools with the Power Switch on, invites accidents. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool on. 4 5. 6. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions. Always wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and a dust mask/respirator when using or performing maintenance on this tool. Tool Use And Care Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed. Do not force the tool and do not use the tool for a purpose for which it is not intended. Do not use the power tool if the Power Switch does not turn it on or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the Power Switch is dangerous and must be replaced. Disconnect the Power Cord Plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally. Always unplug the tool from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Do not use a damaged tool. Tag damaged tools Do not use until repaired. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the tool s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on another tool. Service Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. 5 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES Maintain labels and nameplates on the Air Compressor. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement. Always wear safety impact eye goggles and heavy work gloves when using the Air Compressor. Using personal safety devices reduce the risk for injury. Safety impact eye goggles and heavy work gloves are available from Harbor Freight Tools. Maintain a safe working environment. Keep the work area well lit. Make sure there is adequate surrounding workspace. Always keep the work area free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash, and other debris. Do not use a power tool in areas near flammable chemicals, dusts, and vapors. Do not use this product in a damp or wet location. Avoid unintentional starting. Make sure you are prepared to begin work before turning on the Air Compressor. Do not force the Air Compressor. This tool will do the work better and safer at the pressure and capacity for which it was designed. Always unplug the Air Compressor from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures, or when not in use. Before each use, check all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness. Vibration may cause these to loosen. Drain compressor every day. Do not allow moisture to build up inside the compressor. Make sure all equipment is rated to the appropriate capacity. Adjust the output air pressure to the tool s operating capacity. Avoid explosions and fire. Never place flammable objects near the compressor. Never spray water or any flammable liquids towards the compressor. Avoid body injury. Never direct the air outlet at persons or animals. Never leave the air tool unattended when it is plugged into the air compressor. Turn off the tool, and unplug it from air compressor outlet before leaving. WARNING: People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before using this product. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference to or failure of the pacemaker. WARNING: The brass components of this product contain lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects (or other reproductive harm). 6 GROUNDING WARNING! A 220 volt plug is not provided with this tool. Have a proper 220 V plug installed by a qualified electrician. Improperly connecting the grounding wire can result in the risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the tool if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a service facility before use. Extension Cords Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord. As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See Table A.) The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See Table A.) If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix W-A ( W in Canada) to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use. Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it. Protect your extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 6

8 Assembly Instructions WARNING! Make sure the Pressure Switch of the tool is in its OFF position and that the tool is unplugged from its electrical outlet, and all air pressure is released before making any adjustments to the tool. Mounting Handles and Wheel Note: For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages, refer to the Assembly Diagram near the end of this manual. Mount each Handle (A15) to the end of each air Tank (A8) using two Bolts (A14). Push on each Rubber Grip (A16) onto each Handle (A15). Place the Axle (A7) through the Tank Axle Mount, Gasket (A6), then through the center of Wheel (A1). On the other side of the Wheel, place another Gasket (A6) on the Axle, then slide the Axle into the other Tank Axle Mount. See photo below. (A7) (A3) (A4/A5) Tank Axle Mount Air Release Safety Valve (A9) 5. Place Pins (A3) through holes in the Axle on each side of the Wheel and bend in place so they do not fall out. Align Axle mounting holes with the holes in the Tank Axle Mount. Screw in Bolts (A4) with Lock Washer (A5) on each side of the Wheel. Connecting Air Hose Close the Tank Drain Valve (A13) under the Tank by turning it clockwise until it stops. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 8

9 Connect the high pressure air hose to the Air Outlet (A27). Refer to Controls and Indicators below. The outlet is 1/4 x 18 NPT. For easy connection or removal, a quick coupler (not supplied) should be installed on the the air outlet. To extend the life of most air tools, it is recommended to install an oiler and water filter in series with the air output line of the Air Compressor as shown below. Connect the other end of the high pressure air hose to the air tool. WARNING! : Do not remove or try to adjust the factory sealed Pressure Switch (A29); removal can cause the Tank to over pressurize and explode. Typical Air Compressor/Air Tool Set Up Connect 220 V Line Plug Purchase a 3-prong, twist-lock, 220 VAC line plug for the Air Compressor line cord. Have a qualified electrician connect the plug the line cord. 10 Turning Compressor On 5. Push the Pressure Switch (A29) to Off position, then insert and twist the 220 volt plug into an appropriate electrical outlet. Push the Pressure Switch (A29) to the Auto position. The motor will start. Pull and release the Air Release Safety Valve (A9) to verify it does not stick. Allow the Tank to fill to 115 PSI before using. Refer to the Tank Air Pressure Gauge. With the Air Compressor turned on, operation is automatic and under the control of the Pressure Switch (A29). Pressure Adjustment Pull out, then turn the Pressure Adjustment (A22) knob to the left to increase output air pressure, or to the right to decease the output air pressure. Set the appropriate air pressure output for the air tool being used. Read the air output pressure on the Output Air Pressure Gauge. Push in the knob of the Pressure Adjustment control. Using the Air Release Safety Valve Press the Pressure Switch (A29) to the Off position. Pull on the Air Release Safety Valve (A9) ring to release pressure from the Tank. See photo on page 8. When all pressure is released, let go of the ring on the Air Release Safety Valve. Empty Air and Condensation The Tank Drain Walve (A13) is located underneath the Air Tank. It must be used daily to release all trapped moisture through this valve. It will also get rid of any condensation that may cause tank corrosion. WARNING: Slightly open the Tank Drain Valve (A13) to blow air and moisture out of the Tank. Opening it all the way may cause it to be blown off. Press the Pressure Switch (A29 to the Off position. Unscrew the Tank Drain Valve (A13) two to three turns counterclockwise. When all the moisture is released, turn the Drain Valve clockwise until it is tight. 11 INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING WARNING! Make sure the Pressure Switch (A29) of the tool is in its OFF position and that the tool is unplugged from its electrical outlet, and all air released from the Tank before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the tool. Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Do not use damaged equipment. Purge Tank daily of all air and condensation to prevent corrosion. Store the Air Compressor in a clean and dry location. Check all air fittings for leaks before using. Troubleshooting Problem Possible Causes Probable Solutions Air Compressor will not start Air Compressor stops during long period of use. Tank air pressure does not reach 115 PSI and Air Compressor runs continuously. Air tool not operating at proper speed Pressure Switch (A29) in Off position. No power at outlet. Line cord not plugged in. Thermal Protection has automatically shut the motor off. Air Leaking at Tank Drain Valve (A13). Air hose has leak. Air output pressure low. Air hose has leak Push Pressure Switch to Auto position. Check power at outlet. Plug line cord into electrical outlet. Allow the motor and compressor to cool down, then press in the motor reset button. Tighten Tank Drain Valve. Tighten or repair air hose. Adjust Pressure Adjustment knob so Air Output Pressure Gauge reads the proper air pressure for the air tool being used. Tighten or repair air hose. SKU For technical questions, please call Page 11

Harbor Freight Tools also warrants to the original purchaser, for a period of ninety days from date of purchase, that all other parts and components of the product are free from defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty does not apply to damage due directly or indirectly to misuse, abuse, negligence or accidents; repairs or alterations outside our facilities; or to lack of maintenance. We shall in no event be liable for death, injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special or consequential damages arising from the use of our product. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation of exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability and fitness. To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges prepaid. Proof of purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise. If our inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election or we may elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.
