8 Starting The Power Trowel: OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 5. Before starting the Power Trowel, make sure to check the Engine for proper fuel and oil levels. (See Engine manufacturer s manual.) With assistance, set the Power Trowel on the concrete slab. NOTE: Avoid leaving the Power Trowel running in one spot on the concrete slab to maintain surface tolerances. Use caution when running the Power Trowel in areas where standing water is evident, as the Power Trowel will tend to skate away. Maintain control at all times. Note: Determining the proper amount of cure of the concrete is important for achieving a uniform machine-troweled finish. (See operating tips on page 9.) Set the Throttle (5C) at its 1/3 position. (See Figure D.) Make sure the Engine Cut-off Switch is in its ON position. Then, hold the Power Trowel firmly and start the Engine. (See Figures E and F.) (See Engine manufacturer s manual for starting/stopping instructions.) After the Engine starts, move the Engine choke to its fully open position to let the Engine warm up before operating. Allow longer warm up in cold weather. (See Engine manufacturer s manual for starting/stopping instructions.) Figure D Figure E Figure F Jam Nut (12G) Engine Cut-off Switch Throttle (5C) Engine Cut-off Switch (8C) Throttle (5C) 6. Hold the Power Trowel firmly, behind the center of the Handle, with good footing. Turn the Throttle (5C) completely clockwise. This will make the blades spin. (See Figure E.) 9 7. 8. With a firm grip on the handle, guide the Power Trowel on the concrete slab: a. b. c. d. e. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CONTINUED Push the Handle down and the Power Trowel will move to the right. Lift the Handle up and the Power Trowel will move to the left. Slightly twist to the right and the Power Trowel will move forward. Slightly twist to the left and the Power Trowel will move backward. Hold the Handle in the neutral position and the Power Trowel will remain stationary. Adjust the Tilt Knob (9C) to get the proper troweling angle according to the requirement of your job. (See Figure D.) Stopping The Power Trowel: To stop the Power Trowel, push the Throttle (5C) to its lowest position. Place the Engine Cut-off Switch (8C) in its OFF position. Then, turn off the Engine. (See Figure E and F page 8, and refer to Engine manufacturer s manual.) Carefully lift the trowel from the concrete slab. Clean all concrete from the equipment and store in a safe, dry location out of children s reach. Preparing The Concrete Surface: OPERATING TIPS The use of a mechanical or vibrating screed (not included) to strike the surface will provide better compaction of the slab and produce an ideal surface for finishing. Be aware that the Power Trowel cannot repair or correct a poorly prepared slab. Attaching The Floating Disc: Make sure engine is off and blade is free of cement before attaching disc. Place the Trowel over the disc. Twist the blades until they lock into the Floating Disc. (See Figure G to the right.) To remove the Floating Disc, twist the Trowel Blades counterclockwise, out of the Floating Disc s Blade holders. Figure G SKU 93544/95855 For technical questions, please call Page 9

10 The Floating Operation: OPERATING Tips CONTINUED Make sure the Blades (4B) are free of all cement. The Blades must also be in the flat position (parallel to the ground surface). When the slab has set sufficiently that the operator s footprints leave a very slight impression, the slab is ready for the finishing step. A Floating Disc (included) should be used to float the surface up to the walls or as close to any obstacles as possible and then be followed by a mini-trowel (not included) for the remainder. When the surface has set properly, continue on to the next phase. The Finishing Operation: After the floating operation, clean the Blades of concrete collected during the floating operation. Adjusting the Carriage Bolt (11G) permits unlimited pitch variation at all times. When finishing, the setting up (hardening) of the concrete slab may vary from area to area across the surface, so the pitch must be changed as required. (See Figure E.) Set the pitch to approximately 1/4, using the Carriage Bolt (11G), for the first pass and then continue to increase the pitch on following passes, repeating the passes to until the desired floor finish is obtained. To set the pitch, loosen the Jam Nut (12G). Adjust the Carriage Bolt (11G) so that it is touching the bottom of the Plate (3G). Then, tighten the Jam Nut against the Carriage Bolt. NOTE: It is important the once the Carriage Bolt is adjusted to the proper height it does not move before or during the tightening of the Jam Nut. Repeat this process for the remaining three Blades (4B). (See Figure E page 8) SKU 93544/95855 For technical questions, please call Page 10

11 INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING WARNING! Always make sure the Throttle (5C) of the Engine Cut-off Switch (8C) is in its OFF position and the Spark Plug is removed from the Engine prior to performing any service, maintenance, or cleaning of the unit. (See Figure E and F page 8.) Before each use, inspect the general condition of the Power Trowel. Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked, bent, or broken parts, damaged Engine parts, and any other condition that may affect the safe operation of the Power Trowel. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Do not use damaged equipment. Before each use, check the Engine oil level of the Power Trowel. (Refer to the Engine manufacturer s manual for lubricating and other maintenance instructions.) Daily, with a garden hose, clean the Power Trowel after each use to prevent hardening of concrete on the unit. Exercise caution to avoid getting water on the engine and engine components. Hard concrete on the Power Trowel greatly increases the weight of the unit and reduces efficiency. To change the V-Belt, unscrew and remove the Nut that holds the Pulley Cover (41H) in place. Then, remove the Pulley Cover. Check to make sure the Engine Cut-off Switch (8C) is in its OFF position. (See Figures E and F on page 8.) Rotate the Pulley (44H) while removing the old V-Belt. Once removed, install a new V-Belt. Reinstall the Pulley Cover (41H). Then, tighten the Nut to secure the Pulley Cover in place. Always store the Power Trowel in a clean, dry, safe location out of reach of children and other unauthorized people. NOTE: Also refer to the Engine manufacturer s manual for storage instructions. CAUTION! All maintenance, service, or repairs not mentioned in this manual must only be performed by a qualified service technician. SKU 93544/95855 For technical questions, please call Page 11
