General Safety Rules WARNING! Read all instructions Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. The term power tool in all of the warnings listed below refers to your line-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS 3. Work area safety a. b. c. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical safety a. b. c. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. Do not expose electrical components to rain or wet conditions. Water entering electrical components will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. Personal safety a. b. c. d. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the Power Cord is disconnected from the battery until the power tool is ready to use. Leaving the Power Cord connected to the battery when the power tool is not in use invites accidents. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. Page 3
e. f. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. 4.. Power tool use and care a. b. c. d. e. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Disconnect the Power Cord from the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the power tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow people unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. Service a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. Specific Safety Rules This Trailer Sprayer is NOT for highway use. When pulling the Trailer Sprayer, DO NOT exceed ten miles per hour. 10 Operating Instructions Read the entire Important Safety Information section at the beginning of this manual including all text under subheadings therein before set up or use of this product. FIGURE H 5/8 DIAMETER HITCH PIN (NOT INCLUDED) GARDEN TRACTOR RECEIVING HITCH (NOT INCLUDED) TRAILER CONNECTOR (34) SAFETY PIN (NOT INCLUDED) The Trailer Sprayer is designed for use with a garden tractor having a receiving hitch with a 5/8 diameter hole, and a 5/8 diameter hitch pin with a safety pin (none included). Make sure the Trailer Connector (34) on the Trailer Sprayer is securely connected to the garden tractor s receiving hitch. (See Figure H.) Check to make sure the Drain Cap (26) on the Tank (1) is tightened to avoid liquid leaks. ow the Trailer Sprayer to the ground surface that is to be sprayed. Initially, park the garden tractor with its Trailer Sprayer on a flat, level surface. Turn off the engine of the garden tractor, set its transmission to neutral and set the tractor s emergency brake. Prior to actual operation, unscrew and remove the Tank Lid (9). Fill the Tank (1) partially with clean water. Then replace the Tank Lid. One Ball Valve (18) controls the flow pressure to the Lance (56) assembly. The remaining Ball Valve (49) controls the flow pressure to the Spray Nozzles. Close both Ball Valves completely. With the garden tractor engine off, connect the RED (positive +) wire of the Power Cord (15) to the POSITIVE battery post on the tractor s battery using a properly-rated terminal. Then connect the BLACK (negative -) wire of the Power Cord to the NEGATIVE battery post on the tractor s 12 volt battery also using a properly-rated terminal. The Pump (12) on the Trailer Sprayer will turn on when connected. Note: To allow better control of the sprayer, a properly-rated switch may be installed in the connection from the positive battery terminal to the positive power cord wire. Terminals and switch not included. With the engine of the garden tractor running, and the Pump (12) of the Trailer Sprayer running, open both Ball Valves (18, 49) completely. Next, point the Page 10
Spray Lance toward the ground and squeeze the Trigger of its Handle (21). This will enable air in the Boom assembly line and Spray Lance assembly line to be eliminated. When everything tests properly (no leaks, good pressure), turn off the engine of the garden tractor and disconnect the Power Cord (15) from the tractor s battery to turn off the Pump (12). Unscrew and remove the Drain Cap (26) to remove all remaining water from the Tank. Then replace the Drain Cap. NOTE: Make sure the Seal Washer (25) is in good condition and is installed. Replace if damaged Wear ANSI-approved safety impact goggles and a NIOSH-approved respirator during use. Wear rubber gloves prior to removing the Drain Cap (26). Add the desired chemical mixture to the Tank (1). Then make sure to replace the Tank Lid (9). When running, the Pump (12) forces the chemicals/water solution to the Boom assembly and Spray Lance assembly. Flow pressure may be decreased by opening the Ball Valves (18, 49). The more they are opened, the lower the pressure will be. Connect the Power Cord (15) to the garden tractor s battery. Then start the engine of the tractor. If necessary, adjust the Ball Valves (18, 49) on the Trailer Sprayer for the desired flow pressure. When spraying only with the Lance (56) assembly, make sure to close the Spray Nozzle s Ball Valve (49). When spraying only with the Spray Nozzle s, close the Ball Valve (18) for the Boom assembly. (See Assy. Diagram.) IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the Hose (19) of the Spray Lance, keep the Hose wrapped around the Tank (1) when not in use. Do not allow the Hose to come in contact with hot or sharp objects. (See Assy. Diagram.) After use, fill the Trailer Sprayer part way with clean water. Start the Sprayer, open both ball valves, and allow clear water to be pumped through the lines and out of the system. Refill the Tank (1) about 1/2 full with clean water and use a chemical neutralizer (not included) to flush the entire system. Then unscrew and remove the Drain Cap (26) to drain all remaining chemicals and water, making sure to follow the chemical manufacturer s instructions for disposal of all chemical/water agents. (See Assy. Diagram.) Turn off the engine of the garden tractor and set its emergency brake. Then disconnect the Power Cord (15) from the tractor s battery and wrap the Power Cord around the Tank (1) to avoid damaging the Cord. (See Assy. Diagram.) Store the Trailer Sprayer in a clean, dry, safe location out of reach of children and other unauthorized people. Page 11
Maintenance And Servicing WARNING Risk of serious personal injury from accidental starting or electric shock. Disconnect the Power Cord (15) from the garden tractor s battery before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. Damaged equipment can fail, causing serious personal injury. Do not use damaged equipment. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Cleaning, maintenance, and lubrication BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the Trailer Sprayer. Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. AFTER EACH USE, refer to Step #14 on page 10 for flushing instructions. FOR WINTER STORAGE, drain all water and chemicals out of the Tank (1), Pump (12), and Ball Valves (18, 49) of the Trailer Sprayer. The Sprayer should be winterized before storage by pumping a solution of automotive antifreeze through the entire system. Then store in a clean, dry, indoor location out of reach of children and other unauthorized people. TO CHANGE THE FUSE, to replace a blown Fuse, first disconnect the alligator clips from battery posts (negative clip first), and unscrew the Fuse Holder (54) located on the Power Cord. Remove the old Fuse, and replace with a new 10 AMP Fuse. WARNING! If the Power Cord (15) of this Trailer Sprayer is damaged, it must be replaced only by a qualified service technician. Troubleshooting Problem Possible Causes Probable Solutions Sprayer will not start Power Cord not properly connected to positive and negative battery posts. Power Cord Alligator Clips not secured properly to battery posts. Battery not fully charged. Blown fuse Power Cord improperly connected. See Figure I, page 10. Check that the Alligator Clips are securely connected to battery posts. Make sure battery is fully charged. Run the Sprayer with the garden tractor engine running to avoid draining the battery of its charge. Check and replace. Page 12
Troubleshooting Problem Possible Causes Probable Solutions No or low spray flow from the boom and/or Spray Lance assemblies. Leakage at Tank Drain Ball Valve(s) not open. Pump, Ball Valves, Hoses, or Spray Tips clogged. Drain Cap not tight. Damaged seal washer. Open Ball Valves. Flush entire system with a noncorrosive cleaning agent. Tighten Drain Cap. Replace.
