2 2/9.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements for 600V Motor Starters supplied to Vale. 2.0 APPLICATION This specification, applies at any Vale locations indicated with approval on the cover page, with the following exceptions: 2. EXCEPTIONS No exceptions. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION The following documents were used in the development of this document or have instructions and procedures applicable to it. They shall be used in their most recent revision. (USA) Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants 4.0 GENERAL The latest Standard, Codes and Regulations apply to all other requirements not specifically mentioned. In case of conflict, Inco will furnish a written interpretation. Ensure that the Motor Starters are CSA approved and are designed and built to NEMA ICS-2 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.4 Standards. Supply all materials new and free of defects.

3 3/9 5.0 DEVIATIONS FROM SPECIFICATION Quotations for alternative components or equipment, in whole or in part for the unit specified, are permitted where it is considered that savings in capital, or operating costs, or any improvement in safety and reliability are obtained by deviating from this specification. Clearly identify the alternatives in the quotation and where necessary submit a separate alternative quotation. 6.0 SUBMITTALS Ensure that the supply of engineering data such as drawings, operating instructions, etc., include the following at the time of quotation: List of deviations from this specification 7.0 DELIVERY AND SHIPPING Ship the individual starters in standard cardboard boxes. Clearly mark each box as follows: Address Vale Purchase Order No. 8.0 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION 8. GENERAL Provide three-phase, magnetic or vacuum, across-the-line combination motor starter enclosed in a suitable sheet steel enclosure having the following features: Motor circuit switch HRC fuse mounting Magnetic contactor Three phase three element manual reset overload relay, with reset button on front cover unless specified otherwise Fused control transformer

4 4/9 8.2 MOTOR CIRCUIT SWITCH Provide three phase, quick make, quick break, visible blade, disconnect type, horsepower rated knife switch, CSA approved for starter size. Operator handle flange mounted with provision for padlocking in the Off position. Provide operating handle mechanically interlocked with the front cover, such that the front cover cannot be opened when the switch is closed and the operator handle is in the On position. Provide a device for defeating this interlock. Provide for padlocking the switch in the open position with at least one padlock. Ensure that any movement of the disconnect switch handle will disconnect both the motor and the control circuit. Provide a removable barrier to prevent contact with energized incoming line terminals. On starters rated size 4 and larger, mount a toggle switch on the front flange of the enclosure. Wire the switch into the ungrounded control conductor immediately after the transformer. Mark this switch clearly On-Off and Switch to Off Before Operating Disconnect Switch. If a local/off/remote switch is mounted on the starter, then the toggle switch is not required. 8.3 FUSE CLIPS Provide fuse clips suitable for Class C, non-indicating type fuses conforming to section MAGNETIC CONTACTOR Provide magnetic contactor CSA approved and built to Nema Standards for motor starting applications (minimum size one) complete with auxiliary contacts. Contactor coil to operate on 5 volts A.C. In larger starters where contactor design incorporates a 575 volt A.C. or a D.C. coil, use a relay to control those circuits which operate at voltages other than 20 VAC. If NEMA contactors larger than size 5 are not available, vacuum contactors with 20VAC coils are an acceptable alternative. Starters size 6 shall be provided with vacuum contactors with 20VAC coils. Provide contactors equipped with two normally-open auxiliary contacts, one for seal-in duty. Provide lugs for the connection of power factor correction capacitors between the load side of the contactor and the overload relay on all starters.

5 5/9 8.5 OVERLOAD RELAY Provide three phase thermal overload relay, with a manual reset push button located on the front cover of the starter enclosure. Supply each overload relay with an isolated annunciation contact. Wire overload isolated annunciation contact to load side of the control fuse. Solid state type relays may be specified. 8.6 CONTROL TRANSFORMER Provide 600/20 volts, single phase, 60 Hz control transformer with one leg of the secondary winding fused and the other leg solidly grounded; the primary shall be fused on both legs. When specified, supply additional VA capacity, over and above that required for contactor operation, for relay operation and other control devices. 8.7 ENCLOSURE Provide Nema Type 2 enclosure unless specified otherwise. 8.8 PAINTING Provide enamel paint finish, applied in accordance with manufacturer s standard procedures. ASA6 light gray is preferred for the exterior and white for the interior. 8.9 TERMINAL BLOCKS Provide eleven () modular snap-on feed-through terminal blocks (8mm wide) for connection of control wiring to field devices. Provide screw connection type terminals mounted on DIN rail (leave space for future terminal blocks). See attached sketch for terminal block wiring. 9.0 OPTIONS Ensure that any installed pilot devices maintain the required rating of the enclosure. Avoid mounting pilot devices on the door. 9. PILOT LIGHT When specified, equip starter unit with NEMA style 30.5 mm flange-mounted, push-to-test

6 6/9 20VAC LED indicating light with the colour as indicated on the motor schematic. 9.2 SELECTOR SWITCH When specified, equip starter units with NEMA style 30.5 mm flange mounted, two position Local-Remote, or three position Manual-Off-Auto selector switches. 9.3 PUSH BUTTON When specified, equip starter units with NEMA style 30.5 mm flange mounted momentary contact type push buttons. 9.4 FUSE CLIP Provide fuse clips conforming to the following table Motor H.P. Notes:. Supply all floor, wall or rack mounted starters complete with nameplates if required in the attached specifications. 2. Locate the nameplates as required. 3.
