1 S&C Omni-Rupter Outdoor Distribution (14.4 kv and 25 kv) Selecting Standard Mounting Arrangements The Standard Mounting Arrangements for S&C Omni-Rupter S&C Omni-Rupter for outdoor distribution are offered in a variety of Standard Mounting Arrangements to reduce lead times and users engineering costs. The selector chart that follows illustrates eleven Standard Mounting Arrangements suitable for mounting on a single wood or steel pole. There are many advantages to using one of the Standard Mounting Arrangements: No Design Delays; No Ordering Delays Users can order switches immediately, and they can complete their line layout, plus actual design work, from erection drawings that are immediately available. No other drawings are required from S&C to adapt the switches to the majority of applications. Reduced Shipping Time Shipping time is greatly reduced because there is no delay for customized engineering, customer approval, or timeconsuming fabrication of custom parts. Stocking for Immediate Use Standard Mounting Arrangements make it possible for the user to buy and warehouse a quantity of Omni-Rupter with operating mechanisms for the user s preferred arrangements for use in future installations. Thus, at any time, users may withdraw a switch from stock and install it without delay. Erection Drawings Immediately Available Each Standard Mounting Arrangement in the selector chart is identified with an ED number, which indicates the erection drawing corresponding to the mounting arrangement. S&C provides erection drawings in a legible, double-page 11-inch 17-inch size. The erection drawings are available at no charge in as many copies as may be required; just ask the local S&C Sales Office for the ED numbers needed, or users can download them in an electronic format from S&C s website, sandc.com. Each erection drawing is complete with detailed installation data, including an outline drawing of the mounting arrangement, base details, operating-mechanism component details, a bill of material, installation notes and illustrations, and recommended clearances. What a Standard Mounting Arrangement Includes When a Standard Mounting Arrangement is specified, the shipment will include: A three-pole switch, complete with interphase drive, factory-assembled on a single base Dead-ending brackets for each switch pole (except vertical mounting configurations) Silver-plated contacts and terminal pads The appropriate detailed erection drawing Complete installation and maintenance instructions Permanent lifting means for switches in the upright and vertical mounting configurations, shipped in place, for convenient rigging and hoisting during installation S&C also will provide the following items, depending on the style of operating mechanism: For hookstick-operated switches (ED-700R4, ED- 706R4, ED-707R4, ED-709R4, ED-710R4, ED-716R4, ED-717R4, and ED-719R4): A crossarm-mounted pull-pull-type manual operating handle, a retention mechanism to hold the switch in the open position, and provisions for the switch to be locked/tagged out in the open position (These items will be assembled to the switch and adjusted for proper operation at the factory, but some minor disassembly is required for shipping purposes. However, no adjustments should be necessary following reassembly in the field.) Optional Pole-Band and J-Bolts required for dead-ending to switch base. 2 S&C Omni-Rupter For vertical-operating-shaft switches (all other EDs): All required vertical operating pipe, as specified on the erection drawing for the applicable Standard Mounting Arrangement The appropriate set of operating-mechanism components for the vertical operating pipe; e.g., handle, rod guides or guide bearings, and couplings What about Specials? Departures from the Standard Mounting Arrangements are easily handled and are available as Standard Minor Modifications of Standard Mounting Arrangements. Standard Minor Modifications Standard Minor Modifications are those that are so frequently encountered that S&C includes them on its basic erection drawings. Uses may specify the desired modifications by adding the appropriate suffixes to the Standard Mounting Arrangement ED number for Omni-Rupter with vertical operating shafts: -M Mounting provisions and modifications for power operation using the S&C 6801M Automatic Switch Operator -S1 One 2⅝-inch diameter tubular fiberglass insulating section in vertical operating shaft (rotating-type operating mechanisms) -S2 One Cypoxy Insulator unit in a vertical operating shaft -S6 Key interlock single lock for locked-open application. -S6L Provisions only for key interlock. -S10 One 1-inch diameter fiberglass insulating section in ver tical operating shaft (reciprocating-type operating mechanisms). -S15 Heavy-duty vertical operating shafts 1¼-inch IPS pipe in lieu of ¾-inch IPS pipe (reciprocating-type operating mechanisms). In addition, extra height is available for the vertical operating pipe by adding one of the following suffixes to the Standard Mounting Arrangement ED number: -V1 One extra 6-foot 10-inch length of galvanized operating pipe with one coupling and one rod guide or guide bearing assembly. -V2 Two extra 6-foot 10-inch lengths of galvanized operating pipe with two couplings and two rod guide or guide bearing assemblies. -V3 Three extra 6-foot 10-inch lengths of galvanized operating pipe with three couplings and three rod guides or guide bearing assemblies. Guide to Using the Selector Chart Omni-Rupter for outdoor distribution are offered in the Side-Break Integer Style, which is fully described in S&C Specification Bulletin S&C recommends that users review this bulletin before using the selector chart on the following page. As shown in that chart, mountings are available for installation on a single wood or steel pole. Available mounting configurations are shown for rotating-, reciprocating-, and hookstick-type operating mechanisms. Each drawing in the chart schematically represents a corresponding Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing that is available as described earlier. Users should use the ED number given with each arrangement when ordering the required erection drawing. The ED number of the drawing supplied may be supplemented with the letter R followed by a digit. This indicates the most recent modification of construction details for that particular Standard Mounting Arrangement. furnished with 6801M Automatic Switch Operators (suffix -M ) must also be furnished with a heavy-duty vertical operating shaft (suffix -S15 ) Not available for switches outfitted with a 6801M Automatic Switch Operator (suffix -M ) Not available for switches supplied with heavy-duty vertical operating shafts.
