1 SPECIFICATIONS Conditions of Sale STANDARD: Seller s standard conditions of sale set forth in Price Sheet 150 apply, except as modified under WARRANTY QUALIFICATIONS on page 3. SPECIAL TO THIS PRODUCT: INCLUSIONS: The S&C Mini-Rupter Switch with Power Fuses consists of a field tested and proven, three-pole, group-operated interrupter switch combined with either Type SM-20, Type SM-4Z, Type SM-5S, or Type SM-5SS Power Fuses all assembled on a back-supported frame ready for installation in an appropriate enclosure. There is no fuse conversion kit to be assembled and adjusted. The S&C Mini-Rupter Switch with Power Fuses, with its compact construction and rugged steel mountingframe weldment, is easy to install. The switch frame is provided with two projecting support pads and two adjustable brackets for four-point mounting. This method of support compensates for uneven mounting surfaces, and thus avoids deflection of the switch frame. No supplemental bracing is needed to achieve the published momentary and fault-closing values. Unlike nonmetallic switch frames, Mini-Rupter s grounded steel frame intercepts the leakage path which parallels the open gap, for positive isolation of the load circuit. Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses are offered in main contact at top, handle on right and main contact at top, handle on left styles, and may be equipped with handles for either front operation or side operation. S&C operating handles, complete with associated operatingmechanism components, are available as options. See section entitled SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS on page 2. S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses incorporate a number of innovative features which make them especially suited to perform a wide range of switching duties. These features include: Multifinger, convex, silver-plated-copper jaw and hinge contacts, independently sprung and backed up with flat stainless-steel springs, providing equalized four-point pressure on the blades silver-clad contact surfaces. S&C s Cypoxy f resin system, employed as an assembly medium, producing a unified insulated shaft with journals and blades permanently molded in place. The shaft thus positions the blades in fixtured alignment. There are no clamp-on crank-and-connecting-link assemblies to portend alignment or simultaneity problems. Mini-Rupters are furnished with S&C Cypoxy Insulators, which provide generous leakage distance. S&C s unique Arc Compressor, providing controlled circuit interruption without external arc or flame, and without the need for separate auxiliary blades. A unique lip-seal wipes the blade as it exits the arc compressor keeps the arc under compression, directs controlled arc gases through the deionizing suppressor vent. Multipurpose, one-piece, formed hard-drawn copper blades with silver-plated-copper contact surfaces on both sides are utilized for circuit closing, continuous current carrying, and circuit interrupting. Their simple, reliable, high-speed action is unlike the uncertain action of auxiliary interrupting-blade-and-contact mechanisms which are dependent upon retention of correct sequencing with the main blade and contact, and upon spring assistance to snap the interrupting blade open. A quick-make quick-break mechanism, factoryinstalled and requiring no adjustments. It closes and opens the switch swiftly, independent of speed of switch handle operation, and locks the blades in both the opened and closed positions. Its positive action contributes to Mini-Rupter s ability to achieve fast circuit interruption and two-time duty-cycle faultclosing ratings. f Cypoxy is the S&C trademark for S&C s cycloaliphatic epoxy resin system. 2 Conditions of Sale Continued S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses provide maximum operating flexibility because of their exceptional fault-closing ability expressed in terms of twotime duty-cycle fault-closing ratings (listed in the table on page 5). These ratings represent the available fault current into which the switch can be closed twice, remaining operable and able to carry and interrupt rated currents. This ability permits quick restoration of service following a fault without the need for an extended outage for replacement of switch parts, or for temporary restoration of service through an alternate switch until replacement parts can be obtained. In marked contrast to Mini-Rupters, with their dutycycle fault-closing ratings, are switches with simple fault-closing or make-and-latch ratings which, following an initial fault-closing operation, offer no assurance of an ability to subsequently carry or interrupt rated current much less any expectation of tolerating a second fault closing. S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses include a side barrier between the quick-make quick-break mechanism and the adjacent outer-pole upper support insulator. S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses include ground studs at load side of fuses. EXCLUSIONS: Switches do not include connectors, operating handles, interphase and end barriers for fuses, fuse units, end fittings, holders, refill units, interlocks, or handle covers. Connectors are available as listed in the table on page 4. Specify quantity and catalog number of connectors desired. Operating handles and interphase and end barriers for fuses are available as listed below in the section entitled SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS. Fuse units, end fittings, holders, and refill units are available as listed in the tables on pages 6, 7, and 8. Interlocks and handle covers are available as listed in the table on page 6. SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS: S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses cannot be provided with special insulators. S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses cannot be supplied less insulators. Higher or lower insulator voltage ratings for a switch of a given voltage rating are not available. To the extent indicated in the table on page 5, S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses can be supplied with interphase barriers and end barriers for fuses. Barrier options are specified as described below by adding a suffix to the Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing ( ED ) number. Based on the Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing ( ED ) number selected from the table on page 5, S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses can be supplied with an operating handle. Three types of operating handles are available, namely, a removable side handle, a nonremovable side handle, and a nonremovable front handle. The removable side handle folds into a compact unit for storage. The nonremovable handles have provisions for padlocking and interlocking (key or mechanical). Operating handle and barrier options are specified by adding one of the following suffixes to the applicable Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing ( ED ) number: -S1 Operating handle. -S3 Interphase barriers and end barriersa for fuses. -S5 Operating handle, plus interphase barriers and end barriersa for fuses. a Either these S&C interphase and end barriers or equivalent are required for the fuses in order to attain the 60-kV or 95-kV BIL rating for 4.8-kV and 14.4-kV switches, respectively. APPLICATION NOTES: S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses require the addition of interphase and end barriers, on the fuse end only, in order to attain the published 60-kV or 95-kV BIL rating, as applicable. Interphase and end barriers for fuses are available, at an extra charge, as listed on page 2, in the section entitled SPECIFICATION DEVIATIONS, or they may be supplied by the purchaser, in which case all mounting brackets and fasteners for attachment of barriers to switch frame must be installed in accordance with the applicable Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing in order to attain the published BIL ratings. S&C Mini-Rupter Switches are suitable for these threepole live-switching duties in 4.8-kV or 14.4-kV three-phase circuits: Page 2 of 8 S&C ELECTRIC COMPANY s

3 Live Switching Opening Transformer switching transformer load currents up through amperes, as well as transformer magnetizing currents associated with the applicable loads. Line switching load splitting (parallel or loop switching) up through amperes, as well as load dropping of currents up through amperes; also line dropping (charging currents typical for distribution systems of this voltage rating). Cable switching load splitting (parallel or loop switching) up through amperes, as well as load dropping of currents up through amperes; also cable dropping (charging currents typical for distribution systems of this voltage rating). Live Switching Closing Circuit closing inrush currents associated with the above opening duties. Two-time duty-cycle fault closing ratings of 27,500 or 60,000 amperes at 4.8 kv and 22,400, 40,000, or 54,000 amperes at 14.4 kv. Three-time duty-cycle fault closing for 14.4-kV switches ratings of 40,000 amperes asymmetrical. WARRANTY QUALIFICATIONS: For the standard warranty contained in seller s standard conditions of sale (as set forth in Price Sheet 150) to apply to S&C Mini-Rupter Switches with Power Fuses in indoor, outdoor, indooroutdoor, or submersible enclosures of other than S&C manufacture, the enclosure must be constructed, and the switch, barriers for fuses, and operating handle and mechanism (as applicable) must be installed therein, in accordance with the applicable S&C Standard Mounting Arrangement erection drawing, data bulletin, and instruction sheet. How to Order 1. Switch, options, accessories, and connectors a. Obtain the catalog number of the desired switch from the table on page 5. b. Obtain the ED number of the desired switch from the Applicable Standard Mounting Arrangement column on page 5. c. If an operating handle or barrier options are desired, obtain the suffix of the desired item from the table on page 2. Add the suffix to the ED number of the switch. d. If options are desired, obtain the suffix of the desired option from page 6. Add the suffix to the switch catalog number. e. If accessories are desired, obtain the catalog number of the desired accessory from the table on page 6. f. If connectors are desired, obtain the catalog number of the desired connector from the table on page Fuse components a. For Type SM-20 Power Fuses: Obtain the catalog number of the fuse unit end fittings from the table on page 6. Next, from the same table, obtain the catalog number of the desired refill unit. b. For Type SM-4Z, SM-5S, and Type SM-5SS Power Fuses: Obtain the catalog number of the applicable holder from the tables on pages 7 and 8. The interrupting ratings expressed in amperes RMS asymmetrical are 1.6 times the symmetrical ratings listed. Higher symmetrical ratings have been determined for these fuses applied at lower system voltages also for locations where X/R 10 and X/R 5. These higher ratings as well as asymmetrical ratings are given in S&C Descriptive Bulletin Top and bottom front-connected.
